The pre-production days of the IN:Camera film production workshop are done. Friday morning was film analysis, then "Social Responsibility & Cultural Awareness" which was actually very interesting and helped me realize a few things. Most importantly, that I can come up with my own definition of social responsibility and not be shut down by people who tell me that my film are socially irresponsible. (Okay, that only happened once... but I gotta say I was crushed.) The afternoon was less interesting to me... dealing more with collaborative filmmaking and art installations. Neither of which thrill me.

(And that appointment that I had about the location... complete bust. And then I crunched my car on the way back to the workshop. You can see the pics over at my other blog: Limes with Orange.)

Saturday was "Story Development" and "Creative Editing" with Brenda Terning. This was an awesome day even if it was 10 hours long. Much more film theory than any of my previous workshops, which I appreciated. And most of the films that were used as examples were movies that I love, so that was pretty cool, too. And the one-on-one sessions that afternoon with both Brenda and Sandi (one of the co-facilitators of the workshop) helped me come up with a much stronger ending for my film. What a great feeling!

On Sunday, we had "Directing" during the day and artist talks at night. The directing workshop with Eva Colmers was really inspiring and helped me refine my concept even further. And we got to see films created by the co-facilitators in the evening which was really cool. Oh, and I found a location!!!! One of the other women in the workshop is letting me use her house. (Hey Ranjene, if you ever need a kidney, just let me know! )

Today was "Tech Day"... lights and camera all in one day. Boy I'm glad I've had previous workshops in both. And I feel sorry for the women who have never handled either. One day barely gives someone a chance to learn the terminology, let alone get any real understanding of how to use everything. But for me it kind of had the same effect as the "Lighting for Low Budget" workshop I took... I realized that I know more than I thought I knew!

The next three days are production days; my shoot will be on Thursday. Sometime after that, I'll try to post something about how it went. Now I gotta go to bed!
