I don't know what christmassy actually means but i feel that way now.
A friend of mine told me about comedian Michael McIntyre doing a sketch on the word christmassy so i bought his DVD and can't wait to see it.

So the reason i feel christmassy is that im in a place called Friedricshafen(sp) in the south of Germany and it has been snowing constantly.
We are staying in a hotel that feels like a log cabin, i have a cute little balcony and i've just been watching the snow outside.

I am absolutely knackered by can't bring myself to go to sleep so i'm just mucking about with my ipod. I left my ipod on a flight a few months ago and was assured that it would have been handed in by one of the cleaners or staff but obviously one of them got a bit light with their fingers and nicked it, so i pretty much lost all my music, even little demos i'd had recorded. It's my own fault for not backing it up but you just don't think that'll ever happen.

Luckily my mum had my old ipod with alot of the stuff on it, but it's on it's last legs so i need to get the stuff off it quickly!!

It just seems like things are going so bloody well. We're now on 1.8 million albums and it seems as if it's going up by the day! I can't believe it. Matt(my sound man) was calculating today that if i get to 2million this year then statistically in 2008 i will have sold 3.24 albums every minute!! When your on the road you have time to work this weird stuff out ;-)

So on wednesday i got to fulfill one of my dreams. I got to sing the national anthem at Hampden and it was an amazing feeling. Don't get me wrong i was absolutely shitting myself and missed a few notes but i think i did my best. You don't realize how hard it is to sing in a stadium with 40000 people singing back all at different times. It's so hard to pay attention to one thing and stay in time but watching back on the TV i think we all kept it together quite well ;-)

It's impossible to really hear anything as there is so much echo and your trying to listen to the track, keep time and listen to 40000 other people at the same time.
I was really nervous but was so proud at the same time.
Everyone from the SFA were really lovely and made me feel soooo welcome.

It was funny just before the match as Maradona was just hanging around near the dugout and all of the wee boys who were the mascots were running by giving him high fives and shouting 'I touched the hand of god, i'm never washing it again!'

I have to say as we're getting to the end of the year it's becoming harder and harder. I can't seem to concentrate anymore and have become slightly obsessed with Christmas Holidays.

This has been such a long year for me.
It's been so successful and i'm so grateful for everything but it has been very hard aswell.

I've given my absolute all, and it's hard when people criticise you. I've done over 100 gigs this year and that doesn't include any promo work. People are so quick to have a dig when they don't have a clue. I've had a few cancelled gigs this year and had a few people send me messages telling me that i'm crap and that they arn't a fan of my music anymore and it makes me so angry. But i know that these people arn't proper fans and it makes me appreciate the real ones even more.

You guys are great. For every person who's came to a gig or bought a cd i want you to know how much of an important part you have played in this year and i am extremely grateful.

So now i'm doing some online christmas shopping. I've sorted my pals presents and i'm trying to think of what to get my boyfriend for his birthday but he wont help me, unlike Jolyon who let me know straight away that he'd like a dishwasher hahahahahaha

on that note.
goodnight

xxx

PS. listening to the new killers album, i'm undecided. There are some weird styles going on but so far i love 'Losing touch' and 'Spaceman'

PPS. if anyone wants to let me have a loan of the bugatti veyron for a day then i think that would be a great birthday present :-)

Hey Amy,
Heard you sing at the game..you done very well considering the echo, here's hoping your ipod turns up (thieving bastages), I just found a tape i lost years ago in my loft that i recorded 17yrs ago, still sounded s*it lol. but a few ideas in there i completely forgot about! Maybe its a conspiracy and you will hear some new artist singing the demos on your ipod (Wouldn't that be freaky)

All the best for Crimble

Ah Amy. Those that have complained about cancelled gigs are just jealous! You've worked your little socks off and deserved every thing that's came to you (I don't mean being ill....that's just been a little inconvenience no?) Did you think when you started out last year that things would have worked out this well?

Just keep doing what you do best Amy: being yourself. That's what we love you for :) All the best for the remainder of the year :)

Nowadays people eat music like they eat yoghurts. Mind you, that's the way music is proposed to us too, nowadays : in packs of 6 with an extra two free (welcome into cunsumption world). So in the end, some people tend to forget what it actually means to actually make (real !) music. Music ? Yoghurt ? Anyway, some people will just "eat" some and throw them away right after. That's today's world ("what a wonderful world") So don't let a few buggers bring you down ! Anyway, the world is made of a great variety of persons and sadly you won't be able to please everyone (even Madonna got her own detractors). Also please, get a good friend reading comments and and all press stuff for you, stop doing it yourself, just concentrate on music :-) It's when artists can really achieve their goals and produce their art that common people can start dealing with the world as it goes. We need you. Take care and keep it going.

Hi Amy, great performance in German TV show "Verstehen Sie Spaß" - something like "Canded Camera". Compliment, because you sang and your band played live and without any playback. So, you have been the highlight of the boring show - well done !! About the performance on Wednesday at Hampden Park I cant say very much because we Germans lost against England and I didnt see anything of the Scottish game. But, Im sure, the best Scottish performance on that evening happened in front of the game and sounded great. I can imagine its an incredible feeling to sing the national anthem and 40.000 are singing along...goosebumps... Take care, Tom

You're a great singer, really. With Your strong, awesome, magic voice! Don't care about that stupid "ex-fans" - they don't know what they say! And there is always someone who will make a fuss, so threat it like an orginary thing. I love your CD, I listen to it everyday, because it's so so so so pretty for me. I wrote You an e-mail two days ago and I didn't receive any answer, so I was a bit sad, but now - after this note - I understand it fully. I was so egoistic when I thought You will find time for me! I think that You are doing really good job! I can't wait to hear some new songs. You're so extraordinary! With love and wishing You extraordinary moments each day, M.

Hello, Amy, your voice has caught me since I have listened to your songs for the first time (only two months ago) and I can't understand anyone who tells you shit like these people...just ignore them and their arrogance! You are an inspiration to me. Well , I really don't know how it is in Friedrichshafen now, but in Bielefeld there is a beautiful winter landscape all around the ciy. I am sitting with my back to the heating, drinking hot tea and listening to your music. And , by the way, I woke up this morning and heard "This is the life" sounding out from my neighbours flat...:)

Thx a lot for this blog cause I enjoyed a lot reading it. :)

It's a great feeling that you are right now in Germany cause I live here. Well not in Friedrichshafen but in another city. The next time you have to visit mine :D ;)

I am sorry because the thing with your i-pod.I can imagine it is really bothering you a lot especially when all your stuff have been up there. All your demos , all your ideas you worked hard for.

Don't let the fake fans bring you down. They are not worth it.There will always be the right fand who will stand behind you and give you all the support you need. You don't need the other ones.

And because the 'The Killers' album I am also not that much excited about it.I prefer their old stuff. The sound is really weird on their new album.

HAVE A MERRY MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS :)
Jasmin :)

I definetely would have high fived with Maradona, too ... what's quite distracting, as i'm 21 now... and you know... well, i should be a little grown up ^^... but no way, when getting the chance to high five with diego ;-) By the way, your anthem was the highlight of an, apart from that, quite average football game...

Och Amy, don't let those people get you down. If they don't realise that infact you are human and you know, do get ill sometimes, then they're not worth the hassle of worrying about. Sometimes people think that if you're famous, you're superhuman. It's silly.

I'm trying so hard with the Christmassy thing right now, but it just aint working :( I was out last night at a fancy dress birthday party/club/house party and it was snowing! It was beautiful. But right now it's raining and disgusting. I know what you mean about being unable to concentrate... I haven't had a break from work since June so I'm going stirr crazy, but I'm going away for Christmas this year with some friends for 2 and a half weeks and quite personally I think I deserve it :P

Take care!

I managed to catch you singing Flower of Scotland when it was on. You done a really good job and you looked lovely :-)

I think thats a bit stupid that 'fans' can just stop liking your music because you've cancelled a few gigs. That just shows really that they weren't really real fans in the first place! You most certainly aren't crap. ;-) I think we all appreciate that you gig as much as you do, because there's alot of artists/bands out there that don't do it even half as much! ;-)

Hi Amy,

Some fans can become really cruel, they make such fixations
on some artist, it becomes afraying. They are somewhere between
fans and stalkers, projection live of famous people on their own.
I also like a band named "nightwish", when they changed female singer
it was starting something like war between the fans.
Hopefully their are enough fans of good music who appreciate the
performance from artist like you, but still respect the personal live
of them.

Greetings

Armand

Man, I think touring and have to keep up a certain level of energy over a 12 month period must be one of the most tiring things in the world. Plus, homesickness is no stranger to me, so I hope you really get to soak up Scotland and your "normal" life over Christmas.

I'm sorry people are being shits, but hopefully those celebrity-minded people who think they have the right to criticise and judge (especially after the posts about you being ill) are balanced by people who appreciate your talent as a musician, and just wonder about when a new Amy Macdonald CD is coming out ;o)

Congratulations on a crazy, successful 2008. You truly deserve the accolades.

I have trouble leaving Oak Harbor, let alone getting off the Island. Athletes who are on tour have a medical team, have to go to bed at a reasonable hour and are put on a special touring diet.

Amy's fans are the band's source of incentive but like everyone else, they need a break. a holiday to gather new inspiration for new songs. Breaks get boring and soon the urge to tour renews it's self. When done correctly, everyone is, HAPPY!!!!!!!

As for your cancelled concerts, what do they expect? You are probably working yourself too hard. You need to give yourself a wee break or a big one. Stay well Amy and dont listen to the eejits. You are brilliant hen. Have a great Christmas and have lots of rest.

I too like the word "Christmassy", which is just as well cos my wife is like a big kid at this time of year. But her enthusiasm for all things festive is infectious so I'm looking forward to it too :-)

Good to see you back in Glasgow Amy! We were at the switching on of the Christmas lights in George Square last weekend, but Robin Galloway of Real Radio was compere and he almost missed the best part - the countdown! So he started it at the number 4! Not impressed. Bring back George Bowie that's what I say!

Got 2 superb gigs to look forward to in December as well - Coldplay at the SECC on the 9th, followed by your good self at the Barrowlands the Sunday before Christmas! The best Christmas ever!

Just got the Killers album today so will give those tracks a listen. They performed a few of them on Jools Holland recently and you're right, they were a bit weird. Hopefully a grower!

See you back home for Christmas ;-)

Love & Peace

It..s a good car, but not as cool as the Bugatti.. not by a long shot. Anyways.. love the music..

Hi sweetie

I was supposed to go to a gig of yours that got cancelled, and of course it made me sad not to be able to see you play. But I know that being on a tour of such intensity as you have been for the past year is very hard on the body, mind and voice, so I commend you for having the guts to say "I need a night or two off" in stead of going on stage sick, putting on a mediocre show and not giving your body enough time to get better. Had you not cancelled, you would probably have gotten even sicker and in the end had to cancel many shows...

Hope you're feeling better, and that you during christmas take the time to be selfish and do exactly what your heart tells you to do. I've discovered it's the best way to regain energy and become fit for a new challenging year;)

Lots of love to you!

I think she writes this blog because she loves to communicate. It's in her music and in her nature. She has a BIG heart and truely appreciates her fans. You can see a lot of this in the chemistry within the band. She may be the Mom but she also has t least four big brothers with her and what she can't see when she's up front is how here band looks up to her. I appreciate her taking the time to write to us, this is not the norm.

Amy, I've been to shitloads of concerts and had many 'experiences'. ....Seeing you live this year (in Manchester) was the biggest 'nice surprise' I've had for a concert...I bought tickets based on stuff I'd heard on the radio and hearsay. Damn, I didn't even have your album when I bought the tickets. I was hoping...........You're fucking awesome live! Know whatta mean?......Good work, long may it continue. Get your arse into gear with a new album

Dear Amy,....Try not to care with people, who are as shallow, that do not try to understand your situation. You are young, you are doing your Best, and if someone can do it better, they should show it to us!..As long as they cannot do something else, but write you negative comments, they should totally stay in silence!....I hope, I will have the luck to get to your gig to Southamton with my partner...We love the passion, and the life we find in your tunes!....Wish you the best, and wish you a very loveful and relaxing X-mas!....Sophie
