one of my wonderful ladies on here forwarded me the "Homicide Girls" profile, and the following in red is one of their blogs.
personally, i can't stand the "punk porn" stuff.  i see the term "punk porn" as an oxymoron.  now, don't get me wrong- i have NOTHING against the girls who are on the site.  a woman has the right to do WHATEVER she wants with her body.  and the initial idea of suicide girls wasn't a bad thing (cute shots showing that girls of all body types and counter-cultures are just as beautiful as the icky fake-titted bleach-blonde barbie-wannabes).  BUT getting paid a couple hundred bucks (which is nothing) to put yourself on a site created so dudes can see you as nothing but something to jack off to under the guise of "female empowerment", while the company is making millions is nothing but fraud and misogyny.
and i know that tons of girls subscribe to SG as well as boys... and i like beautiful ladies as much as the next person...  but i'm driven by politics, and this shit doesn't sit well with me.

it took women in the punk scene 20 years to be able to stand up and say "stop looking at my tits and listen to what i have to SAY", and actually get equal respect in the "scene".  and now the "punk chick look" is no different than "the sexy secretary" or "the naughty nurse".  it's no longer taken seriously, and has been whittled down to being nothing but a costume to get dudes riled up.  the whole idea behind the female punk movement was demanding equal respect, and not to be seen as just a walking fuck-toy.  that original mindset is evaporating.

and if the shitty pay wasn't enough of a slap in the face to the ladies on SG, now the site is fully taking advantage of these girls by selling thier images to any porn site who'll pay... and even if the girls on SG quit the site, SG has the rights to still sell thier images.  read the article below.  it's pretty terrible, and i feel really bad for the girls on the site who didn't know what they were getting into, and are being taken advantage of.

**************************************
the following article is about how much the Suicide Girls website really truly loves their girls and really respects them as "artists". punk fucking rock....

SG now, officially will be selling it photo sets as content to
other porn sites: no matter who they are, as long as they pay.

Photo sets that YOU submit...Sg will now sell to anyone...

Just think about it - if you are an SG girl...your photos can now
appear on...say... "hot-anal-cum-sluts.com" - anyone with money, now
has your photos for their pay site.

This is something to think about.
The site selling all those girls photos....for just $500 -

"ContentBlowout Announces Rights to Sell Suicide Girl Content
By Michael Hayes
Monday, May 8, 2006

LOS ANGELES, Calif. ContentBlowout.com has announced that it will
sell Suicide Girls content in conjunction with Content Pinup.

Jonathan Silverstein of ContentBlowout, who has been retained by
Content Pinup to market the 19,000 images of 20 Suicide Girls, had
high praise for the coveted brand.

"Suicide Girls is a very popular site," Silverstein told XBIZ. "It's
a great brand. To me, those girls are a modern kind of Betty Paige,
with tattoos and piercings. They're very hot."

While the announcement has received a great response from buyers,
according to Silverstein, there was some initial controversy.

"I think a lot people just didn't believe that this was for real,"
Silverstein said. "Suicide Girls is very close with its brand, so to
have this content is very unique. But it is for real, and people
know that now."

In response to negative comments on GFY, Silverstein posted a letter
from Paul Loving, attorney for Suicide Girls, addressed to Content
Pinup.

"As we discussed," the letter read. "While your access to Suicide
Girls content was never intended or contemplated, Suicide Girls
acknowledges that Content Pinup has demonstrated that it lawfully
obtained the rights to license to third parties a collection of
images of Suicide Girls for display on the Internet."

According to Silverstein, the letter stopped the controversy, which
he said might have stemmed from previous animosity between
webmasters and Suicide Girls.

In 2005, Wired News reported that as many as 30 Suicide Girls models
quit over allegations that the company, which has enjoyed a
reputation as a female-friendly porn business, had exploited its
models. Posts on GFY echoed those claims.

Despite either controversy, the content is selling well, according
to Silverstein."
Rude.

Really interesting read. I was toying with the idea of becoming one for a while but it lost it's appeal the more I thought about it. This article makes me glad I didn't.
Going to forward it I reckon a few people will be interested.

i can see how girls would think SG and sites like that are a fun idea...dressing up all cute and sexy and getting photos taken.
but when you think about the fact that SG then owns the rights to those photos, and you're "image", and can do whatever they want with it (even if you object to it), plus make a fortune off of it... and all the girls get out of the deal is a couple hundred bucks at best, and a free tshirt.   it seems a bit of a screw.
it's a cute idea that has gone horribly horribly wrong (as all cute ideas do).

Hell yeah woman! I have hated that shit since I first heard of it! I couldn't agree with you more, the term "punk porn" is most definitely an oxymoron!! Why don't people get that? I thought the point of being different was not to ACT like all the assholes we hate! When I first heard of suicide girls I thought the whole thing was a joke, then I realized it wasn't. I was deeply saddened that even women of different sub-cultures were now acting and supporting in their own degredation. Apparently, there is a reason why their called SUICIDE girls.

if you want to see a couple profiles that are really informative about this kind of stuff, and who are totally against this type of shit, go to:
Homicide Girls
Boycott Suicide Girls

Boycott Suicide Girls has tons of article links showing the misogynistic attitude of the owner of SG, how poorly the girls are treated, and even an article stating how particular girls who left SG were targeted in the "set buyout"  because the owner of SG was mad at them.  it's pretty terrible.
and all so jocks and business men can see some punk-rock pussy.

it makes me sad.

that's exactly it.... it's still porn, just wrapped in a different package.  it's still the selling of women's bodies for the profit and pleasure of men.  and no matter how many girls subcribe to the site- it wasn't meant for girls.  it's made by boys for boys.

sexual empowerment isn't letting your sexuality and body be used by a corporation for profit.
you're right... their marketing was quite brilliant.

I couldn't agree with you more! "Punk porn" is like "Spice Girls Feminisim"; completely contradictory and usually results in some kind of unfortunate mall trend.

I understand the appeal, but like you pointed out, it becomes another costume and loses any actual meaning. The minute that girl gets into a sexually contrived pose in front of a camera for a couple of hundred bucks, it hardly matters if she's got green hair and loves obscure Polish novelists; she's just another piece of eye candy in the bowl.

I do feel bad, because at the root it's just a quest for acceptance. The people who run Suicide Girls understand that and take full advantage.

I don't think it's a question of silliness, I think it goes way deeper than that, at least I'd like to think so.

oh god i had no idea it had been taken to that level! i had only seen them live as (unfortunately yet another) burlesque troop, which i did enjoy because simply for the fact i think strip tease, is fun ! disagree with me if you will, but we've have a similiar troop out here for years and years that celebrated the counter culture girl and , of all shapes and sizes that played with the audience etc. it's fun  i think, now the even have guys in it called boylesque to even it out, so we straight and narrow, and not so straight guys (?) can  enjoy it on not such an artsy level *grimaces* (you know damn well seein a hot tattoed boy pretend he's workin on a car or something wouldn't tweak an unstitched eyebrow!)

but they are selling these girls out, to just plain porn, without their permission?

if you want too do that, first of, that is your choice, but when the choice is taken away from you, no fuck that, seriousely  fuck that, but seller beware..and now what ?

authentic burlesque shows are totally fun.  they're racy, but based on TALENT.  it's not just going up there and shaking your ass, spinning on a pole, and shaking your tits... that's called "stripping", and anyone can do it.  a real burlesque show has acts that involve skills and talents... and there is rarely any real nudity.  it's usually just theme based tiny little costumes that are meant to tease.  they're fun and playful.
and some of the burlesque performances that i've seen have been amazing with the tricks and acts that these girls can do... fire breathing, acrobatics while hoola-hooping, etc.  they would be fantastic no matter what the girls were wearing.

When I first heard about SG I thought it was a great idea!  But after spending more time on the site.. I didnt think that more "different" types of girls were represented.  Most of the girls are still white and skinny but just w tatts and colored hair.  Ha, and one of the girls who isnt white, her name is Indie.  As if her indian background is master status in the case of porn.  Also, I just watched the SG tour video and it is the same as any strip tease video or strip tease you would see in a strip club.. so I just dont see any difference except SG girls have  trendy hair and tatts.  Same ol' porn for men by men.

Negotiating feminism and porn has been a long time battle.  I for one, do not support feminists who want to just stop porn because I believe it suffocates female sexuality.  What we really need, is more porn by women for women.  I tired of watching my porn through a males gaze! Tats, big tits, whatever!

there's no stopping porn all-together.  it's unrealistic.  but i will say that porn made by women for women does exist, and is far better and more tasteful than the swank/hustler/icky stuff that is out there.  there are alot of girls out there who like having another outlet besides an actual person.  i'm not going to judge anyone on what they're into.  if you're looking for an outlet for porn that is women run, and offers stuff made by women & for women, check out www.lezlove.com (i think that's the website).  i've heard that it's actually a better alternative than the normal male dominated dick shot/cum shot/ fake titted lady stuff.  because as all ladies know- men have no fucking clue what a woman wants or likes (no matter how "schooled" he thinks he is, or how many girls he's been with), so the porn they're going to make isn't going to be for women.
i personally have no use for porn- it either makes me laugh, or is depressing.  the last thing i want to do when i want to get laid is watch someone else getting laid... it's just a reminder that i'm not getting any, and it bums me out.  haha!

I totally agree with this comment. I was intrigued when I first heard of the Suicide Girls website. It gave off a very safe vibe siting that most of the photo shoots were arranged and done by fellow Suicide Girls but it seems it wasn't as self-controlled as I thought it was. I personally did not want to be a SG but I thought it could be fun for others. I do not have a subscription to the site but have checked it out and it seemed like all of the girls were thin model types, albeit with colored hair, piercings, and tattoos, but definitely not all shapes, sizes, etc. I think it is very sad that the girls' images are being sold to other companies and future applicants should be wary. Thanks for the information.

I know, I never got the suicide girls thing either. But punk to some of the younger people is just a fad, and with places like Hot Topic in every mall it is easy to emulate. You go Kristen, keep on spreading the word.

everything you said is totally on target!  i couldn't agree more.  and i LOVE the roller derby girls.  i adore it when women involve themselves in rough-and-tumble physical activities that are supposed to be "just for boys", but they make it their own.  i had a friend in college who was on the university's girl's rugby team- and she was badass!!  all the girls on that team were.  they weren't afraid to get dirty or roughed up, and they could stand their ground with any dude around... but never succumbed to behaving like guys.  i totally love it when girls break the "boys only" social rules pertaining to sports, education, occupation, etc.- and they do it without sinking to the "male domination" attitude.  they prove that they are just as worthy to be in with the fellas without having to act like one of the fellas.
which brings the point right back to the "punk porn" thing... women participating in negative male behavior because it's been presented to them as "female empowerment".  girls subscribing to female objectification is about as embarrassing as watching 2 girls get in a fist fight... they are reducing themselves to the kind of "dude behavior" that we're trying to get rid of in order to live in a better society.  ladies have been tricked into thinking that acting like a guy is somehow cool or empowering... when really we need to be making our way in a guy's world on our own terms (and making our society a better place for it).
does that make sense?
it's really early in the morning, and i haven't had enough coffee.....

like i said earlier... i have friends who are on that site, and even though i don't agree with it, i would never judge them or try to make them feel badly about it.  i'm not trying to guilt the girls on there... i'm just trying to shed some light on a company that is taking advantage of these girls.  noone has the right to take advantage of another person- period.  i don't care what the situation is.

that would be rad if they discontinued their sales of the girl's pics.  no matter how any of us feel about the site, or what it stands for... none of the girls on there should ever be subjected to that kind of fraud or betrayal.  ESPECIALLY by a site that is supposed to be propagating "female empowerment".

i've read that article about blue blood vs suicide girls... it's really good.

This really dissapoints me.  Being a suicide girl to me was the only perk of turning 18.  I liked the idea of maybe being admired  and being told i was pretty.  A chance for me to be a part of something.  But I did not want some truck driving piece of shit redneck jerking off to me. Eww.  But I never really saw suicide girls as "porn". Mainly because of the no penetration rule.  And the fact that the girls come up with the ideas themselves and there's nothing gross like close-ups of assholes.  I know a few of the suicide girls have switched over to GodsGirls, which is pretty much the same thing as suicide girls.  This is really going to make me question if this is something I really want to be a part of. Really interesting blog.

this is why SG is so frustrating... they have marketed themselves so well, that it's hard for young women to see that the SG site is no different than any other jack-off site (it's just in a much hipper package).
the most basic dictionary definition of porn is "Sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal"... there doesn't need to be penetration, or insane closeup shots.  that's why there are so many different levels of porn.
but the only difference between SG and "hustler" is that at least with "hustler", they don't feed you full of bullshit about what they are all about.  SG runs on the guise that they are somehow "empowering" girls, and then paying them shit and treating them horribly.  we don't need to be admired for our bodies... we need to be admired and respected for our minds and  accomplishments.   but if a woman DOES choose to participate in a pornographic situation- she needs to be treated well, and not "tricked" into thinking that it is some sort of feminist empowerment.  99 percent of the guys that subscribe to SG aren't on the site to find out what books you like to read, or what your favorite movie is... they're there to get off.  plain and simple.
not to mention, that amateur still photo porn mags pay better than SG does.  hell... i was a nude model for the drawing classes at my art school when i was pregnant, and i got paid better for a few session of work than SG pays out!!

I've always hated the Suicide Girls thing and Im glad to see other people do too. My ex-fiance used to be completly obsessed with that website. Its supposed to be "alternative porn" or whatever. But its just as mainstream and fake as that other crap. Women of all different shapes and sizes are beautiful. But shouldnt we be showing off more than our bodies? We're never going to get any respect if we don't treat ourselves that way. I agree some of the pictures are artsy and beautiful. But the average male just uses it as jerkoff material.

Also I hate how porn  makes some men have warped views on women. They watch so much porn that they only think of women as sex objects. They have unrealistic expectations when it comes to real womens bodies. Its a total double standard. Men can be fat hairy slobs and get all the women. But they expect womens bodies to be nothing less than perfect.

i've dated many boys who have been obsessed with porn... and you're totally right about their expectations of how women should look and act.  not only that, but they usually have no fuckng idea of how to "please" their women, because they're getting thier moves from watching porn.  and porn really doesn't give a fuck about the woman being satisfied... it's all about the fellas.  so lame.
