Yes, there's only 29 films as the year ain't over yet and I still intend to see the following.

THE WRESTLER - next Tuesday.

Also THE READER and TIMECRIMES today.

Still haven't seen FUNNY GAMES, GOMORRAH, VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA, 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND TWO DAYS or BOLT in 3-D.

Still intend to see BALLAST, VALKYRIE, REVOLUTIONARY ROAD and WENDY AND LUCY.

Still may see AUSTRALIA and CHE. And more.

But here's my pretty solid end of the year list.

Will update on December 31st!

1 - LET THE RIGHT ONE IN
2 - SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK
3 - IRON MAN
4 - NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD: THE WILD, UNTOLD STORY OF OZPLOITATION
5 - MAN ON WIRE
6 - HUNGER
7 - FROST / NIXON
8 - THE DARK KNIGHT
9 - BURN AFTER READING
10 - WALL-E
11 - RACHEL GETTING MARRIED
12 - SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
13 - HAPPY GO LUCKY
14 - GRAN TORINO

23 - THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON
24 - THE FOOT FIST WAY
25 - TROPIC THUNDER
26 - MILK
27 - W.
28 - ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO
29 - PINEAPPLE EXPRESS
30...

The 2008 RIKI OH award for insane, senseless violence - RAMBO
Runner up - PUNISHER : WAR ZONE

Some surprising choices I know, but I will defend my choices of 60 year old John Rambo and killer, cell phone imitating vines to all comers.

Now, argue amongst yourselves that THE DARK KNIGHT isn't higher.

No. IRON MAN was my superhero film of 2008.

If only for the superb final scene and final line*.

If I was sucking up I would have put INCREDIBLE HULK in there too.

(*I'm ignoring the Nick Fury bit)

Personally I rate both IRON MAN and THE INCREDIBLE HULK over THE DARK KNIGHT. They delivered.

THE DARK KNIGHT, IMO, is an extremely boring and drawn out movie with a few cool set pieces in it. Completley lost interest by the third act.

SON OF RAMBOW and WALL-E were wonderful movies. My horror pick of 08 for HORRORHOUND magazine went to EL ORFANATO. That was a creepy picture.

Only 20 more movies on that list for me to see. Been a busy ol' year.

I think you should make a "worst of 2008" list. I'd be interested to know what you thought of Indiana Jones and Plastic Skull.

So far, out of the superhero movies of 2008, I'd also have to go with Iron Man. I think Robert was perfect, and it really makes you think about how aweful it is in some places and how unfortunate it is that we don't have an Iron Man in real life to save us from corrupt polititions and terrorists.

I was also very suprised by The Incredible Hulk. I wasn't sure about Norton, but he's one of my favourite actors, and he did fine job.

I HATED the dark knight (won't even give it capital letters). I think Christopher Nolan is driving the franchise into the ground by trying twist around characters and making them something they are not.

I am very excited about The Spirit and The Watchmen. However, I love Samuel L. Jackson, but "The Octopus" is not suppose to show his face!!!

As for the next X-men movie, I don't really think we need to be spending millions of dollars on a spin off that's just about Wolverine. I think that X2 had enough of Wolverine's story in it to satisfy me.

What do you think???

I am so with you on Iron Man. I loved The Dark Knight, but I couldn't get enough of Iron Man this summer (I saw it an obscene amount of times in the theater). Plus, it inspired me to pick up a comic book for the first time in my life.

The tone and the characters are in totally different spectrums. They both have their strengths and weaknesses and ultimately, I think they're both brilliant in their own right. Just because Iron Man is a lighter film, does not make it a lesser film.

I notice that the Dark Knight backlash has started, though. All of a sudden people don't seem to like it.

Iron Man's a good film, but it's not worthy of a top ten spot, imho.

I think anytime something is wildly popular, there's always risk for backlash. It's unfortunate, but honestly, those dishing it out are the ones who lose out. As long as you enjoy it, then screw everybody else. ;)

As for Iron Man, I stand by my opinion that lighter doesn't mean less. It's that kind of thinking that keeps comedies from getting Academy Awards. Does that mean it was perfect? No. It had a weak third act, something that Jon Favreau is well aware of going into the sequel.

But it was still my favorite movie this year. It still kept me coming back to the theater multiple times. It made me want to explore the character beyond the film. It opened my eyes to a whole new world.

I actually don't like comparing the two because when you get past the surface, they're vastly different films. But if you really want to compare them, it would be better to compare Iron Man to Batman Begins as they're both origin stories. To really see how Iron Man is going to stand up to The Dark Knight, it's better to wait until their second outing.

It always amazes me how people get so angry about comedies not being Oscar-recognised. Or indeed, any other genre, like action. These types of movies always make more money at the box office than most Oscar-nominated movies, so really, who cares about a gold statue that says that a bunch of old people liked a particular movie?

It's more about principle than anything. Awards season it supposed to be about celebrating the best in film for the year and a lot of really fantastic movies get overlooked because they don't fit a particular mold.

It ultimately has no affect on my enjoyment of said movies, so as an audience member, it matters very little to me. But the fan in me wouldn't mind seeing my favorite filmmakers get a pat on the back for doing quality work regardless of genre.

It used to be, it's true. Now it's just a chance for a bunch of people to look down their noses at others, because they happen to make movies that people might actually enjoy just for the hell of it, rather than making a movie that's 'worthy'. Whatever that is.

From what I've read, it's EXACTLY like the original, shot for shot. The only difference being the actors. So you'd probably have a similar level of enjoyment.

Also, was Let the Right One In REALLY that good? I saw the trailer and it looked like the best vampire movie since Near Dark. Twilight can go eat a dick...or sparkle. Whatever those vampires enjoy more in that "movie".

I may give the original a shot but the remake was horrible. I love one shots but when the camera sits in the same place for 5 to 10 minutes straight where nothing is happening it just comes off as lazyness. I never got why the same director did the same film anyway. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it after you watch it.

I have to say, I'm not a huuuuuge fan of Seth Rogen, as much as I want to be, so I'm glad Pineapple Express and Zack And Miri... aren't too high up on the list.

Also I agree with Tropic Thunder and Hellboy II and Happy Go Lucky, but maybe would have put Kung Fu Panda a bit lower and Son of Rambow a bit higher.

And I really, really REALLY want to see Burn After Reading. I don't know why I didn't go and see it when it first came out.

Also, no HTLFAAP? I thought that was pretty good!

Edgar...great list...and the fact that you didnt put TDK at numero uno is proof that you have well thought out taste...not immediatly jumping to BEST THING EVER...well done sir, and I am very happy to know that me and my buddies are not the only ones who enjoy WarZone a hell of alot for what it was...people think every movie needs to be the same these days, its so boring, and every movie of course needs to be serious and devoid of silly, campy, cheesy, funny, tones and themes....THE DARK KNIGHT IS JESUS...(SARCASM!) and in order to suck up to you in the proper way, I would say that Hot Fuzz was way better, more inventive, and well shot then TDK in my opinion...but thats me and I'm probably lonley on that island. Niether of your films had anything CLOSE TO, IN THE SAME GALAXY OF, the amount of CRAP that was that boat/civillian/bomb scene in TDK, and yet Hot Fuzz cant even get a VERY MUCH DESERVED editing nod from the academy, while TDK is going to get best picture...what? it was good, that's it, everyone needs to calm down.
