Hope you all had a wonderfully frightful halloween!
But now at 2:05 am, it is November! I can hardly believe it. Where does the time go?
So I have been spending my days writing songs. I look to Bruce Springsteen as a mentor of sorts. I religiously watch his VH1 storytellers DVD and view it as a tutorial for songwriting 101. He is such a wonderful lyricist.
I've also been seeking inspiration from new music I've picked up (yes I still buy CDs).
Lately the Laura Marling CD is getting multiple spins. I did my best to fill in Laura Marling's parts when I toured with Noah and The Whale. It compelled me to get her CD since I heard the reason she didn't tour with Noah and The Whale this time around was because her own career was taking off. Congrats to her! She deserves it. Not only is she a supremely gifted singer and songwriter but she is absolutely beautiful.
A canadian band MOTHER MOTHER, is another CD I've been getting into. It's quirky and fabulous and makes me smile lots. The CD is called O MY HEART and its wonderful.
I also got the MELANIE CD, you might remember her as the lovely lass who sang "I GOT A BRAND NEW PAIR OF ROLLER SKATES, YOU GOT A BRAND NEW KEY". That song has always been a fun fave of mine, so I was curious as to what her other music sounded like, there's a song called "Look What They've Done To My Song" And I really dig it. She has a vibrato that reminds me of Edith Piaf a bit. One of those crazy strong voices.
So I'm seeking inspiration from all things... music, the changing seasons, my very odd dreams, the night sky, and deep pondering on the meaning behind certain images in Frida Kahlo paintings. oh how I love her. Aint no one can rock a sexy unibrow quite like Kahlo!
Well I suppose I should head off to bed.
Before I forget, I posted a living room performance of "dying of another broken heart". Its a wee bit dorky but maybe you'll dig it. Just go to the video section on my page!
