Hey Everyone

Thanks for the birthday messages…

I had a super chill birthday…

I’m getting to the age where drinking yourself into a drunken stupor doesn’t necessarily  seem like the ideal way to spend the day of your birth.

But…

Going out for a nice dinner and eating yourself into a near comatose state…

Now that’s where it’s at!

We went to a posh steak house, serving the finest of Alberta beef of course, and ate, drank, and became merry.

All and all... a great bday.

Didn’t get what I asked for though.

I wanted a pony…

Just cause last year I forgot to put air holes in the box

R.I.P. Rainbow Dash

Whatever… I’m holding out for Santa…

For the next month or so… I’m gonna be writing like a…  person that writes a lot

I’m trying to get a good chunk of songs demoed before Christmas.

I’ve got a little over a month.

Anyways… thanks again for the birthday messages and gifts…

And have a great weekend

I think I might go out this weekend for a birthday celebration with a bigger group of friends…

It might involve drinking and a stupor.

Blogging in advance or have you been partying since Nov. 2 ???? Just thought I would let you know that I notice everything about what you write...Yeah creepy I know but you ought to be use to it by now :p Glad you had a smashing day...sorry about not getting the pony and about Rainbow Dash.....maybe you can come up with a less "My Little Pony' name with the next one. He would have gotten teased at school anyway :p Great news about the writing :) Love hearing that you are creating. I'll be happy to listen to your new works when they are all cooked up and ready for release.....or even before that if you want a test audience ;) Continue with the Happy B-Day celebrations, oh Witty One! :)

Ur welcome. That sounds like fun. I'm not much of a drinker so I've never drunk myself into a stupor. Which I think is a good thing cuz then u have a hangover the next day and what I hear about them they're no fun at all.

Good to hear from you, Kalan! Glad you had a super day. A chill birthday at a posh steak house ... Now, that's my kinda celebration! Too bad about the birthday gift, but hold tight for Santa... he seldom disappoints. Good luck with the writing for the next month. We're all in anticipation of the new CD. If further birthday celebrations materialize this weekend ... enjoy to the fullest! Stay warm and have a great weekend! Cheers, for now ...

Hello, Kalan. You're an Alberta boy, through and through, right? We can take you out of your country but we can't take that country out of you. That's nice. Keep being YOU. Good to hear you enjoyed your birthday. It's great to hear from you. Poor pony!!! Well, maybe Santa will be nice to you IF you've been a good boy all year, lol. ho ho ho Your planned outing this weekend sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe you can go to a concert with friends too? In Montreal maybe? (Lukas Rossi is at Montreal's Spartan lounge on Saturday and in TO on Sunday at Lee's palace) lol Drinking and stupor, aye? Make sure you're hidden from Santa!!! I hope you don't get writer's block and wish you great success this month as "a person who writes a lot". Take care. Carol

Hey KALAN, I guess if you were aiming for a comatose state it was much safer to go with a food one than a booze one....booze could end up fatal. So sorry to hear about Rainbow Dash .... R.I.P. I hope you'll dedicate a song to Rainbow Dash, maybe like "Rest In Heaven". Well, Happy-After Birthday Celebrations too!!! LUV YA, xxxoxxx

Hey Cowboy! Sounds like a nice way to spend your Birtday, food!!! Have a great time on the second celebration, hope you find some "good" Tequila! Lots of good writing vibes heading your way for those songs as well. I also noted this blog is dated Nov. 2nd, perhaps you've already had the party that involved drinking and a stupor???? hehe, who are you kidding... I'll bet the first celebration was a date night with a female, this weekend is the boys night....Glad to hear your birthday was so merry and enjoyable and have a great weekend to cap it off. Would love to hear more about the song process. You demo them to who? Who choses which songs make the album, and what do you do with the ones that don't make it? Is there a target number you demo before the selection begins? Are you co writing with anyone in particular? Do you write the whole song as it would appear on the album, or just the lyrics and general melody then fill in the instrument parts after its chosen? As you can tell, I know nuddin' about this, but would love to learn!! Thanks for the blog Kalan, always great for a chuckle.

Hi Kalan, It's so nice to hear from you- glad you enjoyed your birthday! Julie (a few posts back) has asked you some really good questions about your creative process-topics for future blogs maybe? For sure some audio blogs would be welcomed. I didn't have time to reply after your last blog, but noticed that you had watched the Planet Earth series. I wonder if you might consider taking up the environment as another of your causes. I know you do great work for breast cancer, and there are hundreds (if not thousands) of worthy causes out there. It's hard to choose, but I'm thinking that this might fit well with your career- here's how: Sarah Harmer and friends (Bruce Cockburn and more) have been touring a few times the past couple of years, trying to promote an awareness of the value of the Niagara Escarpment- specifically, trying to save Mount Nemo, north of Burlington, from being destroyed by gravel excavation. (This is a cause close to my heart as I used to take my high school students hiking there when I first started teaching. We also had a school environmental club, and it is gratifying to see that some of the local places we fought to keep free of development are still natural environments to this day-thirty years later. It is nice to see the difference what environmental activism can accomplish, and I continue to put energy into environmental causes locally, now east of TO instead of west of it.) Anyway, to get to the point, I'm thinking that you might hook up with Sarah Harmer and her friends, and maybe tour with them. They seem like really decent people who make good music, and would bring with them a group of fans which might become your fans too, expanding your exposure and fan-base. I think there is a similarity between her fans and yours- both groups support the artist partly because of the personal qualities as well as the music. This is just a thought. Maybe the type of music you are making for your third album wouldn't fit well with their's, but I do think that the WUL songs would, and some variety of sound is good at a concert. Enough said, just a thought, but last summer people were suggesting that you tour with someone, and this seems to me like it would work. Another possibility is Blue Rodeo. Their opening act got a lot of exposure last year on their tour, and I see their name a lot now. Anyway, whatever you do - we're with you all the way! Enjoy recording!

Hey Kalan,

Glad you had a great birthday :) Too bad about the pony you didn't get, but really, he would have been miserable leaving in T.O. ;) lol

A near comatose state induced by great food is always yummy and a must on one's birthday ! It sure beats the salmon you had to eat in Calgary, don't it ;) ? lol

>I’m gonna be writing like a… person that writes a lot

That's the spirit ! I'm sure you'll do a perfect job of it, as you always do :D

>It might involve drinking and a stupor.

LOL Have fun and don't forget to take pictures lol

Thanks for the blog, witty banter and all :)

Hey, I'm going to a birthday bash this weekend too! Sure hope it's the same one you're going to! :) Okay, I get it ... drinking yourself into a drunken stupor doesn’t necessarily seem like the ideal way to spend the day of YOUR birth, ... but it's a great way to spend the day of SOMEONE ELSE's birth! Ha! Ha! (Personally, I'd prefer a nice steak dinner!) :) Did you ever wonder where the word STUPOR came from? It's a derivative of another word which is quite similar. I won't tell you what that is ... I know you'll figure it out 'cause you're not STUPID! ;) I wouldn't count too highly on Santa bringing you that pony! Didn't you hear that he only delivers gifts to good little boys and girls! ... Well, you're very naughty ... and not that little either! Whatever ... try the Easter Bunny! :D Oh, and what do you mean you're going to write LIKE a person who writes a lot! You ARE a person who writes a lot! Just look at this blog! That's okay though ... it makes all our waiting worthwhile. :) I think your next C.D. is going to be awesome!!! Well, glad you had a nice birthday! See you on Saturday! I'll save you a seat beside me. LOL! :D

Happy belated birthday Kalan; 1st time I forgot & I never received a reminder of it, like others b'days. However, things are not the same, since I made that stupid mistake (the one that will follow me wherever I go on this site). For those of you that don't know of what I am talking about. In Sept., I thought that Kalan was shaving his head, instead of getting a hair cut. It was Kalan's words "I got all my hair chopped off," that made me think that he was shaving all his hair off, which seemed too strange to me. Therefore, I opened my big mouth & said some truly bad things to him. I wrote an apology to the public to express my bad judgement & sent one to Kalan. My life has not been the same since, but it was too late to take it back. I am tired of being an outcast, so if no one will forgive me for an extremely bad judgement, I am uncertain, as what to do. Change the direction of my site or shut it down. I spent several hundreds of hours on my site & a lot of good comments have been of positive attitude, towards Kalan. I have built my site up, well beyond expectations. All anyone has to do is read my comments on the current page to see what I am saying. Kalan, I will always be a huge fan, but if I am not needed or wanted to have anything to do, with you or for you, on my site, then please tell me. There is no excuse for what I said, even if you was to shave your head, it is not for me to say. When we get older, change isn't as easy to ecept. I will never forget the first time I heard & saw you on Idol & I continued to be a huge fan ever since; my site is evidence of that. Like I said before, there is no excuse for what I said. I will say, however, I have been under a lot of stress over the last several months, doing physical work, with chronic pain, every day of my life. Only someone that has experienced this, can know what it is like. I am not looking for sympathy, only to think about it. I am sorry to have forgotten your Birthday, Kalan. If I can feel like I am a part of your friend base, I will not forget it as long as my mind allows me to, as I get older. Once again, happy belated birthday! I hope your writing of new material for songs goes well. I will be at the stores early, once the new CD is released. If only you would leave me a simple message to know, how you feel towards me. With heartfelt sorrow, Jamie

So glad you had a stellar day! But I'm really hoping that you don't do the stupor thing. That would be wrecking some of those nice little brain cells that help you write and do your music. So, don't go too far, hon! Just stick to that level where you can still see as long as you close one eye and squint real hard with the other. *LOL* As for the pony thing.... How dumb do you really think we are? You didn't want a pony. You wanted a girl. Too bad about last year and the airholes in the box, though. RIP Rainbow Barbie. *wink* *LOL* Take care and have a great time with your friends! Don't drink and drive! Awww, you know that. *HUGS!!!!!*
