Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I've spent the last four hours responding to personal messages sent regarding yesterday's post-- and wish I were able to answer more folks directly, but I'm already nodding off at the computer as it is.
The Cliff's (ahem)
Clint's notes version:
Sure, my co-workers and I are taking a tremendous risk-- and yes, it's sweltering as we pace up and down the pavement.
In response to a comment made over on the LiveJournal Top Model fan group, I'd say we
all agree with the comment "I really hope everyone can coexist in a way that the writers and CW aren't at each others throats." It's not fun to fight. In fact, it's much more fun watching footage of the new girls and planning out story arcs for forthcoming episodes.
Bottom line here: it's not fair to be a staff member of a network's flagship show and not have
any of the basic benefits granted staff members of its other programs.
Again: health care, screen credits, established minimums...we're not asking for the moon here, people. We just no longer wish to be treated as second class citizens; that's why we seek WGA contracts and unionization.
On a positive note, Lisa D'Amato (from Cycle 5) came out to show her support today, which turned out to be more fun than we anticipated. She gave us all a "teach" on how to strut our stuff on the picket line in
true Top Model style-- which was followed, natch, by a "challenge" and "win." Following the cue of that inevitable reality-programming product placement, the winner was given a value-pack of Dr. Scholl's shoe inserts (to relieve some of the inevitable aches and pains from a standard strike-day), and the two friends chosen to "share in the win" were given foot powder and antifungal cream, respectively.
I'd elaborate more, but anticipate having video footage to share via YouTube (or perhaps antoher outlet) in the near future. Until then, I'm off to catch some much-needed zzzzzzs before another long day-- though I'll leave you with images of
THE D'AMATO DELUXEuntil further update...
