Current mood:  numb

THIS IS FUCKED UP. Another friend lost. Tero Alexander Smith, aka Camu Tao was fighting lung cancer for about 2 years. I met Tero in my 1st freshman year at walnut ridge high school. we both were rumored to be the illest drawers in the school. this was b4 i started lettin cats know i rapped and b4 he had even started. we both had the same art class, so bam we battled it out and us and the crowd realized we both were ill as fuck, but had our own styles. we ended up bondin thru that and started hangin out regularly. My fellow Gemeni. one day we were skippin school and i decided we shld walk 2 my dude jakki's house. jakki's crazy ass throws a rocks at camu b4 knowin him...ijust laughed cus thats how jakki is and always has been (crazy. ask about him) anyways, we all ended up doin our thing in this game and being the first group out of cols with a hiphop record(its documented, peep vibe's  history of hiphop book). we came in this game 2gether and paved the way for underground music being hed globally from Ohio. Me and Camu had our differences but once u call someone elses mom, your own mom, and are like brothers, any arguements or fights u get in with that person feel like sibling rivalry. Tero was good dude. had a great heart and anyone who met him will tell you the same. we all have our flaws and not one of us is perfect. I spoke with Camu on many occasions after our situation and it was all love. The first time we bumped into each other after our  dumb situation was at Devero's at northern lights. I was with keenan (ttc) and he pulled up in an suv. We dapped each other up and he told me he had heard that Tage and I were gonna see him him in Grant hospital (the first time we had heard he was in the hospital). We exchanged numbers. Then the VERY NEXT DAY, I BULLSHIT YOU NOT, I RAN into him at Krogers on main st in reynoldsburg. I was with my mom and he was with his 2 sisters. we chopped it up again and he sd it was meant for us 2 be cool. those where his words. I bumped into him again at the PRZM reunion, but we spoke only briefly. The  last time I saw him was about 3 weeks ago at the groove shack reunion at the hi 5. im thankful for that moment in time.He definitly was one of my best & closest friends. It wasn't a friendship based on music, it was MUSIC based on FRIENDSHIP. Him, Jakki,Les,  Terrell & a few others i grew up with and consider brothers.  my deep condolences go out to mr. and mrs.Smith, as well as his sisters cathy and sam, girfriend, supporters of his music and anyone who has ever met the man. we will all miss him and noone will ever replace his memories. He made an impact on so many peoples lives by just being him.He was and IS the illest producer ive ever known. he cldnt play keys, just played by ear on some timbo shit and if he broke down all the elements of how he did his beats youd be amazed. he was a great emcee and great drawer. dude was nasty in bball. i still cant believe this dudes gone.   Rest in Eternal Peace, my brother for life.....MUUUU TAO PKA TERO SMITH AKA ONE IN A MILLION. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN. PEACE TO THE WEATHERMEN. AND ANYONE ELSE WHO IS GOING THRU IT LIKE I AM. P.S.  TAKE TIME 2 enjoy this short gift while its here.   AND HERES SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT, HOW LONG R WE GONNA BEEF OVER BULLSHIT ??? TILL SOMEONE DIES THEN WE WANNA START THINKING? PEACE TO BLUEPRINT, THE 3RD, ILLOGIC,GREENHOUSE,RJD2,DJ DRASTIC,TRUE SKILLS,BOMBAY,THE WEIGHTLESS CAMP,SPITBALL, ANYONE I FORGOT I GOT LOVE FOR YOU ALL. WE WERE ALL COOL B4 WE STARTED PUTTIN OUT THESE SONGS FOR STRANGERS 2 ANALYZE. LETS GET BACK 2 OUR SHIT AND MAKE COLS STRONGER, I GOT LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU.

p.s. me and cage have squashed our differences.

That's real.

RIP Tero.

I sat down and talked to this man at scribble for like an hour about some real shit...and he even had me squash some shit I started w/ one of his homies...He was a real cat and I can't forget that man...One of the many that had good intentions in his heart when it came to other brothers' situations and hardships.

Rest In Peace.

Camu will be missed more than people can ever know!!

SOO many memories of Moose in the early days rocking 4th, 5th, and 6th period lunch tables. Freestyling in Dommy's car driving in 6 inches of snow! I always think about those days man. Walking back to the lab on Elaine ct to write and "tighten up tracks", The Mentor yelling at us for something or another (Mic Etiquette and Delivery!!) Camu, You and me learning how to dig in the crates for the good shit, and of course the 10,000 silly (but DOPE) cassette projects you and him did like Return of the Soundtrack. I know personally how close you and him where. You two where truly brothers in so many ways.

R.I.P. Camu..........we'll never let the world forget you.

Everyone in that list of shout outs was and still is a huge influence to me in so many ways. Thank you Copy for recognizing that. I saw you and Moose make amines @ the GS reunion and i shed a tear. I needed to see that. Thank you for contacting me to go see our dude because it wasnt lookin so good. Soon as you text me. I forward that shit to everyone that i knew had a connection to him. It was hard to see him down. it was like it wasnt even him. He was sedated. I held his foot and said a prayer and told my dude that i loved him. I hope he heard me. I got to see Shawntage. I havent seen him in some years. It was good to see him. This shit is too close to home. I knew that he had been going through this for over 2 years. I remember we had a nice long convo on the phone about it, because he heard that a Columbus emcee named Necessary of (S.P.I.R.I.T) did a tribute to him @ the 2006 Columbus Hip Hop Expo with a beat that Camu produced for him. We laughed about it like "man Im not dead yet". He was in good spirits at the time too. He fought a long hard fight. His passing was said to be peaceful. i miss you moose. no one can replace you. you made your mark. rip homie.

REAL TALK........I MET CAMU THROUGH MY COUSIN TREAD AND HIS BOY FLOO CAT. I Was already making beats at the time, but had just recently copped the ASR-10 sampler and was learning my way through it. Up until that point everything i did musically was pretty much uninfluenced. When i met camu all that changed. He was the first “producer” friend I had ever had. Someone i could build with, and learn from. In other words he became more or less a reflection, someone i could identify with. Like miles davis and john coltrane. Or better yet ray charles and Quincy jones. He was a little older than me, so naturally he would drop jewels. And I would pick them up. His beats were CLASSIC HIP HOP……in the tradition of primo, but he took chances like dilla. He could find a loop and bang it out perfectly. He would come over my house off and on for few years to use my ASR-10. (he was a beast on beats without any of his own equipment) in the end I remember him being fun, brilliant and having over all GOOD ENERGY. a star. SEE U ON THE OTHERSIDE BRO.

That's the true definition of boys...it's also one element that makes hip hop as sick as it is...you never know who you'll run into, how it will happen, and what the outcome may be. Me and my boy I spit with are the same way...grew up together since we were 7-8 years old, had our fist fights, but it was like 2 brothers squarin up. Hip hop has def lossed a good MC...RIP CAMU! I def give you respect Copy for bein a man about that whole situation...it really shows what a true friend you were to him. One love...

I know it's months later but I just wanted to send my thoughts out to anyone who was PERSONALLY devastated by this event. Although I never knew him personally, Camu was an amazing artist. Everyone knows it. He was very gifted with a pen/pencil. I've always heard nothing but good things about him from those who spoke with him or met him. Damn shame.

I'm also thrilled to hear all differences have been let go to fall back into the past. That always make things so much easier.

Again, my thoughts go out to those who knew him and those still mourning.

Here lies the road to recovery.

Everything you said Pete is what everyone who ever heard or met Camu should be saying themselves. I having not met Him find it hard to put into words exactly how hurt and shocked I was that he passed, but I am not family and He never knew me...but I would like to know that He is in peace, and by those who know, will always and forever be remembered in every good positive way possible.
