"We Shall Remain: Tecumseh" - behind the scenes
Myspace interview with Adoesha.
She is a native girl from Oklahoma, and she is really occupied with lots of things. She is working as a model, she is doing Casino work and she is acting, on stage and on the screen. She is also among the native cast in this upcoming film "We Shall Remain: Tecumseh", directed by Chris Eyre.
I decided to send her a mail, and ask her if she had some news about the movie, and after a short while she replied on mail.
Adoesha:
Hi Morten. Sorry about not getting back right away. I just got back from theatre rehersals. The movie "We Shall Remain: Tecumseh". was shot in Indiana where the Shawnee were really from before they were removed to the midwest. Some of the film footage done were actually shots were the Shawnee’s had the last battles with the American Soliders. I played Tecumseh’s brother wife, and Michael Greyeyes was Tecumseh. Other native actors was Lawrence Santiago and Leland Chapin to name a few. I tell you Michael is a hoot. He loves to crack jokes and keep the energy on the set going, even if some of his jokes were dry. Hee hee. I really enjoyed watching him say his lines and how much he gave depth in respect on the Tecumseh’s words.
I told Chris that truly I am honnored to be a part of this film. I appriectated him directing this film because he knows how important it is to tell the truth to what he is a part of. Alot of non native directors in the past as you know didn’t tell truth to Native films. Plus, on this film they had flutent Shawnee tribal elders leaders flown in to be a part of this project and where right there talking to the Directors up on history. My son Isac Bennet played my son on the set. I was glade he was apart of this project, he got to experience a past journey to see history, I know that kind of knowlege he experience was pricless.
The rest of the cast were flown in from differnt parts of the country. Each one working on this project truly believed in this and gave great effort to do it right and tell the truth about Shawnee Leader Tecumseh. This film comes out this fall, and its on PBS and a more networking. Also another film I worked on the, Trail of tears is comming out in the Fall.
Right now I am doing a theatre show in Kansas, and its called "Rough face girl." Its a well known native american story. There are more films I am hoping to be apart of this year, I have a degree in theatre so I am going to see what i can do with it. So I am crossng my fingers.
