Issue #6: I’m feeling like I need a cup of “Hot Coffee”

Lately parents and politicians have been attacking video games saying they're destroying the youth of today or some crap like that. Yapping on and on how games like GTA should be sold behind counters, out of the reach of children or shouldn't be made at all. You know what I have to say to them? SHUT THE FUCK UP! First of all, kids shouldn't have enough money to buy these games anyway, unless of course you, the parent, give them money. The games in question are rated M, meaning 17+, and shouldn't be sold to them in the first place, unless you buy it for them. It is also illegal to sell an M rated game to a minor. So how are these kids getting their hands on these games in the first place?

Another thing that bothers me is how they say it leads them to do violent things. If they're so easily influenced by a video game, then they were already messed up to begin with. I've played GTA a lot and I don’t go around shooting hookers, stealing cars or attacking police officers, neither does the majority of the players of said game.

Want to know what the real problem is? Lazy parenting. These people are just looking for someone to blame because they can't face the fact that they're responsible. If you see your kid playing a violent game, stop them and talk to them. Tell the why it’s wrong for them to be playing such a mature rated game at their age.

Now they managed to change the rating of “San Andreas” from M (17+) to AO (Adults Only 18+) all because of a third person mod that unlocks hidden (unused) code of a XXX minigame. To be fair, the code was made by Rockstar. But, it can only be accessed by downloading a third party mod entitled “Hot Coffee”. Now if it were hidden minigame that could be unlocked by conventional means, then I would agree with the rating change. But it was unused code that must be unlocked by downloading the “Hot Coffee” mod. Most PC games get modded all the time, yet they don’t do anything about those. Nor do they care. As long as they can get some publicity and make themselves look good, then its ok.

The target audience has already seen actual porn, so why get so worked up over pixels? But I guess its ok to shoot pedestrians and kill police officers in the game, but when they start having sex, grab your pitchforks and burn them DOWN!!!!!
