I definately agree that setting a date for withdrawal would be a devasting mistake for sure. I have my husband in Afghanistan and I don't like the fact that he and other troops are over there, but this is something that needs to be finished. If we pulled out without finishing the job, they will come over here and destroy this country. They proved it before on 9/11 and they will do more damage if they are not stopped. And besides, I feel that the one that will stop this and says when it is finished is God Almighty Himself. I am not pushing religion on anyone, but it's time that someone says it. Only God will say if and when it is over!!!! Not the politicians!!!! I did sign the petition and hopefully others will too. I will email this to others in AZ to sign if they agree with us all. We will win this fight and Sen. McCain has my vote in 2008 for US President!!!!!!!! Thank you Sen. McCain for your dedication and your service years ago.

To you and to all Military wives, husbands, children, and parents. My prayers are with you. I am an ex Army wife. I take great pride in the sacrifice that you and our service men and women make to make sure that my family and I are safe at night. To me your husband is a hero! We need more of them. We also need more like John Mcain to stand up for all of us that think pulling out of Iraq would only encourage more violence aginst America.

I'm not a top advisor for Congress, but what I can't understand is this troop pullout idea by a certain date. To speak generally without having to go into citing sources and history, I'm going to just say look at previous successful wars that we have won. We had lots of troops on the ground and we still have a lot of those same bases open and functioning to this day. So what I can't understand and would like answered by these spineless politicians who want to pullout is why we don't close down some of the bases in Germany, Italy, Guam or Japan and move them into Iraq permanently. Regardless of the reasons this war was really started we need to finish it!!! For the main reason that if we don’t finish, not only will we be responsible for the mass genocide that will occur from the civil war that will break out but out national security will suffer greatly also. That's my rant and I can't understand how I'm 24 and realize these facts but these career politicians can't see the big picture. Oh wait these same people are too busy trying to put pork for there special interest groups in the troop funding bills.

I spent four years in the military and have not the slightest clue about war. I really and truly do not know if staying there and fighting a never ending battle is the right thing to do or if pulling out with our tails tucked it the right thing to do. I do not know. I guess the only thing one like myself can do is "trust" the guys in charge, and if Senator McCain thinks we need to stay longer then maybe we do. I don't know... I seriously don't know...

I was in the Army but I never went over seas. But, I do know that you get close to everyone around you in the military. You become more then just friends, you become a family. I have had many friends go over, one came back cause he almost had his leg blown off. I don't want that to be for nothing! If we pull out it would admit we failed! That means that every one that has died, died for nothing! I think we could truly make a diffrence. It isn't going to be easy and it isn't going to be quick! It is something that needs time. And for those that don't think we can't make a diffrence need to look at our history! We were fighting a losing battle, and if it were not for France's aid we would have more then likely lost! It is a long road to take, we will win some and lose some, but eventually we will win. We just need time! My vote will go to a Republican canadate that is for the war in Iraq!

The Democrats keep comparing Iraq to Vietnam when they are the ones who are turning it into Vietnam. When politicians try to wage a war instead of trained military Generals bad things happen. We will se Baghdad become the next Saigon with people desperately fleeing and a thousands being slaughtered if we set a pull out date. Thanks for always standing by our troops Sen. McCain. I pray we can get you elected president for our troops sake, for the Iraqi peoples sake, and for our country's sake.

Personally I think its a real bad idea to pull out of Iraq before a victory is declared. First off we are going to leave the people of Iraq open to Attack by Syria or Iran. Second what about the servicemen who gave there lives in Iraq. We pull out now, then They have died in Vain. They died for no reason. We need to stay over there and finish what we started. War in an unpleasant experiance. Civilians who do not know anything about it, congress and all the politicians need to stay out of it. Let the trained proffesionals take care of what we need to take care of. Lets get Iraq Stabalized to a point where they can take care of themselves, then we can gradually start pulling our boys out of there. The politicians are turning this into another Veitnam, I would have thought that they would have all learned there lessons from Veitnam. There is the old saying, " Those who do not learn from history, Are doomed to repeat it." Well congress is about to make a hguge mistake. You can't put a deadline on war. Just doesn't work like that. At least one member of congress is showing some sense, Thank you Mr Mccain fo looking out for our sailors and soldiers.

Sir, I completely agree and stand by your word, regardless of what the Iraqis or other Americans say. I saw some of your speech and some of your visit to an Iraqi market--that shows tremendous strength. I also believe that a withdrawal of troops on a timetable (one that is ADMITTED and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC) is irresponsible. As a former Marine, and one who wishes she could still serve, I say that action is stupid. I support you and admire your resilience, we will stand strong.

Being a resident of Fayetteville North Carolina which is right outside Fort Bragg I am against a pullout from Iraq and Afghanistan because just since my freshman year in high school I have been to 3 military funerals of my friends who have served proudly in the 82nd ABN Div and i feel that if we leave then their deaths and every other american hero's death in Iraq and Afghanistan will have been in vain... and that in my eyes the most demeaning and disrespectful slap in the face to them. We need to stay until the job is done...THE RIGHT WAY! Not to mention my entire family feels the same, but dont think their opinions arent valued ..we have in my family a total of 118 yrs of military service and that is just the men not including the countless years spent by our women and that is why whe shouldnt leave because it would denegrate not only their contribution but every veterans comtribution by going back on the policies that they served and upheld to make this country what is is today. mr McCain I recently turned 18 and sir YOU HAVE MY VOTE FOR PRESIDENT!

At what point should we have said in WWII, "Oh, too many soldiers have died, let England fight, it's Europe's problem anyway, we'll just defend Hawaii and our coasts." Maybe we should have never invaded Normandy, too many soldiers died, for what? We should just talk to the Nazis and see if we can work it out. Or, "we made it as far as the Ardens, we've lost enough soldiers, it's costing us too much money, let's set a date next week and pull out of this whole thing and go home..." Or MAYBE, we should have just surrendered to Japan. We got them back for Pearl Harbor by bombing Tokyo. Let's just talk to them real nice; while they invade the west coast and take over our country.

What has happened to America? Too much undermining in political circles. Whatever happened to "United we stand, divided we fall"? Divided, as we are now, we will fall! We will fail! Fail democracy, fail our forefathers, and make every single Americans death throughout history, absolutely meaningless!! Shame on Liberalism! Shame on the left wing! You're all a bunch of hypocrites!

Senator, you are a patriot and we need more people like you in office!

I am so glad you feel this way Mr. McCain! I also believe we can not leave Iraq untill this thing is finished, no matter how long it takes. It would be a disgrace to my husband and all of his brothers in arms (not to mention the fallen heros) to leave now. It would in fact be telling them thier hard work and sacrifice was all for nothing. Not to mention the fact that these terrorist would see it as an open invitation to mess with us more. I have signed your petition and I will let all my friends know about it.

I invented the question mark.

I have never been a fan of politics. I have however always been a fan of the truth. This war was started for all the wrong reasons, and like any other situation that results in human suffering, I hate it. However, as Americans; as human beings, we have a responsibility to set right what has been done wrong. The truth is often painful, but if we can all stare it in the eyes and face it, rather than running away, I believe we will all come out of this situation stronger and for the better. I hope you make it into The White House, senator.

I wish we had more accurate intelligence that verifies our situation over there. Like real figures in terms of voting percentages, number of Irag citizens with ID cards, like we have here. Something to show our progress or lack of it. Unfortunately all I hear are opinions expressed on the situation and no signs of progress, or lack or progress.

Having been in the military for four years I still believe it could only be more risky for the personnel that are left during the pullout, if there is a significant opposing force. I would not want to be the last team left behind.

I would like to know if the government issues photo ID Cards for citizens.

Is there any semblance of order over there?

Was the real goal to make an example of one Arab government that MAY have been trying to charge us double for their oil?

There are so many questions left unanswered, that I'm not sure I support our administration at this time. Nevertheless, I don't want my buddies to become slaughtered victims during a failed pullout either.

I signed the petition. I'm also sending an email to all my friends about it encouraging all of them to sign the petition as well. I truely feel that our prescence in Iraq is needed now more than ever. I've lost many who were VERY dear and close to me both family members and friends in Iraq. Each one of them felt that they needed to be there and told me often that they wouldn't have done it differently. My fiance is in the Navy and he totally agrees that withdrawing from Iraq would mean an attack on our country again. I support our troops 200% and will do my best to ensure that our country stays safe. :) United we stand, Divided we fall. That saying counts now more than ever. Battling over wether we should stay or wether we should go only gives in to the desires of the terrorist.

i may sound a bit ignorant, but why can't the oil of the world be everyones? we all need it. it's causing soo much death and the wars are slowing the advancement of civilization. the world needs to come to a common understanding. we are all in this together and we can choose to live or die. it's seems like it's just a matter of time before we all give up and just throw our missiles in the air. the world is soo far behind time. we should be soo much more advanced, much more intelligent, and much more concerned with our survival as a planet than as races, countries, people, religions, or classes. is it soo far fetched? does it take a major catastraphe for the world to come together? there's my two cents ...

I have fought in Iraq twice in 2003 and 2004. I am currently a US Marine and I think thatpulling out now would be the biggest bone head move we could do. I feel our Generals should run the war and politicians should do nothing but support the Generals in thier decisions. If we cut and run as the Democrats propose the terrorists will have no place to kill us except our back yard, I feel we should keep the fight away from our children.

I guess what I am waiting for is for a republican solution to the mess that has been created in Iraq other than "stay the course". I haven't heard one presented. The only image that stays in my head is the president on that air craft carrier with the banner behind him saying that major combat operations in Iraq were over. I guess the other image is the vp on national television saying that the "insurgency" was in its last throws. If you knew nothing of the conflict and were living in a bubble for the last few years and you saw what's gone on you'd have to say the current administration, and those who still blindly follow them are on the wrong tract.

Mr. McCain, my mother, before she died in 1999, told me that you would be the only republican she would ever vote for. If she were still alive and could see what has gone on in Iraq, what would you say to make her (and me for that matter) believe that you have any other strategy other than "stay the course".

Even as a democrat I support McCain on a number of issues but what I don't understand about all these posts is how staying in Iraq will ever produce what people call "Victory". The Iraqi sects are so consumed with hatred for one another I can't see how leaving our troops there will ever end that. Let me say that this has nothing to do with a failure by our troops. They have done everything asked of them.

If Iraq is to succede as a nation it will have to be the result of its own citizens standing up against extremists. They will need to decide that it is the people of Iraq who run the country, not the terrorists. We have given them the opportunity, it is up to them to make the difference.

We are not surrendering in Iraq if we leave. We are simply redirecting our focus to those who hurt us. The military should be going after Osama, Zawahiri, and anyone else responsible for 9/11. These men are not in Iraq.

Not only support the troops, but support the commander in chief of the troops as well. I feel that John McCain does this and I commend him for it. I don't necessarily believe that leaving Iraq will cause terrorism to reach our homeland any more than it already has, but I do believe that beyond the lack of WMDs found in Iraq that we belong there. After the fall of any country from a war with the US, we have gone in and strongly aided in their rebuilding. Iraq can't be any different. I don't see the war in Iraq as a war at all any longer. The acts of terrorism made by people supported by countries outside Iraq's borders needs to be curbed. No mention has ever seemingly been made to patrol the Iraq - Iran border to stop the influx of weapons to be used against our forces as they attempt to help secure Iraq for it's rebuilding process.

The Viet Nam simularity: In the war in south east Asia the US was at war against the spread of communism. The enemy was supported by China and Russia. In Iraq the war is against extremists who are being supported by Iran and Syria. In both wars the enemy blended in with the general population making it nearly impossible to locate them in some instances. Why the US chooses to fight battles in this manner rather than going after the roots of support bewilders me. The sanctions imposed on Iran are triggering aggression from it's government in the form of support to the insugents in Iraq.

A lack of resources: The US military is straining from a lack of troops. This is evident now that members of the US Air Force are being utilized to supplement ground troops. It's high time the government realized a source of troops willing to come to it's aid, the veterans. Aside from the handful of anti-war democrat retired generals who have politcial support agendas, their are thousands of American veterans who would like to go back into the military if only temporarily to help and support the mission. Even if not directly placed into combat, they could replace the troops sent into Iraq and Afganistan and provide their support at bases here in the states, thus freeing up thousands of service men and women to leave for the fronts.

Bringing these things into the spotlight will lock my vote to be for Mr. McCain. Elsewise I support his ideals and principles. I will always show my support for a politician who is also a US Veteran in any presidential election.

Hey Kevin, you definitely are NOT a top advisor for congress because you’re clearly an Idiot…(wait…maybe he IS a top advisor…hmmm..) So spineless people desire peace eh? Pulling out of Iraq does not constitute defeat. It means that we cease a military presence there and begin rebuilding a world we’ve been so thrilled to destroy for the past 17 years. We aren’t giving in to anything if we stop military action, so stop being a bunch of spoiled, war bent, American pussies and lay down your arms. There are bigger problems than, “What to do with the brown man who controls the oil…” such as alternative energy, the clean water issue and anything else related to the health of the world and not to the Oil industry. Americans are so proud, so ignorant.

War is never something people are completely comfortable with, but in order to better the nation, the future, the world, we need war. Although many people feel war is not the answer, we can never have peace without it. History shows conflict has been the only constant. By nature, people tend to be consumed by fear. Fear creates tunnel vision. Fear leads to chaos. We could accomplish so much more if people would stop living in fear, and start being more supportive. The world is opinionated, and nothing will ever change that. If you want change, support the decisions your country makes, whether you agree with them or not.

McCain on Somalia:

There is no reason for the United States of America to remain in Somalia. The American people want them home, I believe the majority of Congress wants them home, and to set an artificial date of March 31 or even February 1, in my view, is not acceptable. The criteria should be to bring them home as rapidly and safely as possible, an evolution which I think could be completed in a matter of weeks.

Our continued military presence in Somalia allows another situation to arise which could then lead to the wounding, killing or capture of American fighting men and women. We should do all in our power to avoid that...

I know that this debate is going to go on this afternoon and I have a lot more to say, but the argument that somehow the United States would suffer a loss to our prestige and our viability, as far as the No. 1 superpower in the world, I think is baloney. The fact is, we won the cold war. The fact is, we won the Persian Gulf conflict. And the fact is that the United States is still the only major world superpower.

I can tell you what will erode our prestige. I can tell you what will hurt our viability as the world's superpower, and that is if we enmesh ourselves in a drawn-out situation which entails the loss of American lives, more debacles like the one we saw with the failed mission to capture Aideed's lieutenants, using American forces, and that then will be what hurts our prestige.

What is this war accomplishing? Every day as we kill the insurgents, more are recruited because of the bloodshed WE spilt.
They, like Americans, do not want their goverment run by another country. They do not want a foriegn power be their "decider". And who are we to say we know how to run things? I say, kill those who hurt America and take down their leaders. Abolish the hate. Then leave. It shouldn't take this long.
