"[Barack Obama] believes [offshore drilling] is not really the short-term or long-term answer to the problem." -- Senator Evan Bayh

Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN)
MSNBC's "Morning Joe"
August 6, 2008

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough: "Let me bring in Evan Bayh and give him a chance to talk about this also -- offshore oil drilling. The Obama campaign criticized John McCain for flip-flopping on oil drilling and then a week later, the Obama campaign flip-flopped on oil drilling. Why?"

Senator Evan Bayh: "Well, I don't think he has flip-flopped at all, Joe. You don't have to listen to the politicians about this. You can listen to people like Boone Pickens who has made billions of dollars in the oil industry. He has said very clearly, we can't drill our way out of this problem. You can listen to Charlie's fellow governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a pretty straight shooting guy, who says that anybody who says we can drill our way out of this problem is not being straight with the American people."

Scarborough: "What is Barack Obama's position on offshore oil drilling because a lot of people are confused?"

Senator Bayh: "He believes it is not really the short-term or long-term answer to the problem."

Sounds like He(Barack) doesn't have an answer. It sounds like double speak to me.

why is it that comments are made but never appear? The purpose of the blog is to have an ongoing conversation here not have it cut it off at one comment. I have made a few comments on your page and oh btw I am pro mccain but they never appear. Whats up with that? I want to know so I can stop wasting my time reading here if there is no interaction allowed.

Let me know

Hmmm and??????????
So then Mr. Obama WHAT IS the short and long term answer, you don't get off that easily and expect to run our country! Drilling is not the total answer but it is a beginning to our becoming less dependent on foreign oil. There is no reason we should not be using our own resources. Are there other ways that we can work to save energy? Of course, but to say you are against drilling with an answer such as this one tells me, a part of the American public that you are simply afraid to take a stand on an issue that is front and center right now for fear of losing votes. It almost reminds me of Nancy Pelosi last week closing up shop so quickly and refusing to allow a vote on drilling.
It is an issue that has to be faced NOW!
