1. Nana Kitade (北出 菜奈 Kitade Nana?, You never know what to expect when walking into an interview with someone like Nana Kitade. Following in the footsteps of Nami Tamaki, the nineteen-year-old gothic lolita icon is the latest self-styled J-Pop Princess to make a trip to America with the requisite fashion status and anime tie-in.

Like Tamaki, Kitade got an early break with a big show in Fullmetal Alchemist. And like her predecessor, Kitade has an enormous hype machine that always threatens to mask her talent. But Nana Kitade has also followed Nami Tamaki down a less frequented path: one that tempers the demands of a J-Pop Princess with the insights of an open, inquisitive artist.

damn i wish i would of read this before i went to the book store for an hour. i'll definitely pick up that book. tim walker is amazing. apparently that photograph that you have on your main page of the woman with the tree of sweeties took hours to do because every little pastry had to be tied on the brances. i love that he still puts the work in things instead of like using photoshop like everyone else. and look at the after image. absolutely fabulous. one of my famous photos by him (is pretty typical) but i LOVe the woman on the stairwell. everything about it fits.

the pink pony reminds me of the j garland wizard of oz! where they finally arrive at the emerald city and get all glammed out and they trot out the colored horses. fucking loved that!!! especially as a toddler lol.

just checked out the god delusion page......
***He is sympathetic to Robert Pirsig's observation in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance that "when one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called religion."*** lolll.

reminds me of......"Health consists of having the same diseases as one's neighbors." --quentin crisp.......and courtney......you NEED to know about q crisp, if you dont already. i am BESOTTED with this man (in drag). read 'manners from heaven.' trust me......nice little life-changer! it's out of print but on amazon. he's got other books too which im sure are great but i can definitely vouch for that one.
oh and he's a brit!
and i love when you make the 'cool things' lists.
they get the wheels turning and are indeed very fan-friendly :D

SUSPIRIA changed my life - it's one of my four desert island films.

I think you should offer a song for Argento's new movie, which is called GIALLO.
That would be too much rock for one hand!

Oh Courtney, I LOVED Suspiria; have you ever been lucky enough to meet Dario Argento? I keep meaning to watch Tenebre and never get around to it...:(

Any other good giallo films you can recommend outside of Argento's stuff?

Hey Court- have you ever read Nana or anything by Ai Yazawa? I have a feeling you'd LOVE it! I do!

Full Metal Alchemist is so marketed at boys, but even a Shojo junkie like me can dig it.

Suspiria's not really a giallo, that was a move away from the giallo format into the fantastique. Bird w/ the Crystal Plumage was, that's my favorite Argento movie, Deep Red was great. Check out Aldo Lado's movies, Night Train Murders (which was a rip off of Last House on the Left) and Who Saw Her Die. Mario Bava's last 5 movies. As a rule of thumb, any giallo w/ a Morricone soundtrack.

I'm to understand that Lesage is the only place to go for lace.
You could probably get freebies, no? How does that work for international celebrities? Like, how many garments to you actually have to pay for?
