Cheryl and all of the other dancers warned me that the Quickstep is the hardest of all the dances. I didn't see how that could be...as the upper part of my body is locked. Boy was I wrong!!
Where the Cha Cha Cha seemed to have a million moving parts, the Quickstep moves at a much faster tempo. On top of that, you're not allowed to let your arms bounce or your elbows drop, you have to maintain the frame. Cheryl must have told me a thousand times to keep my elbows up and to smile!
My greatest challenge this week are my own two feet, as they seem to be at war with the rest of my legs. I've stepped on toes, nashed my knuckles and kicked my ankles enough to think maybe Heather Mills doesn't have it so bad...I'm kidding...sorta. I've been treating my feet like Alaskan Halibut, keeping them on ice, whenever they aren't wrapped in Patent Leather! And speaking of Patent Leather...what genious decided to make dance shoes out of this stuff...?? When my shoes rub together they stick. I fall as if some practical joker knotted my laces. Which brings the count to a million and ONE handy uses for Vaseline. Rubbing the top's of my "dogs" with petroleum jelly makes them slippery.
I put a lot of effort into learning this weeks dance. I've listened to the music in my free time, watched JPEG files from rehearsals, and gone over the counts in my head. I expect the competition is working just as hard. Monday we dance!
Thanks for your support, Cheryl and I appreciate you.
