I don't know about you, but a taco stuffed with egg and bacon is not exactly what I crave at 6 a.m. But, apparently that's what the Food R&D reps at Taco Bell think I might like.

The Irvine, Ca.-based Mexican fast food chain is Thinking Way Outside the Bun by testing eight new breakfast items in four U.S. markets. The morning grub is now being offered in Fresno, Nebraska, Ohio and Arizona. A Taco Bell rep told the Maven today that he doesn't know which items will be popular enough to earn a permanent spot on the chain's menu -- thus the test in those areas.

Other than the taco/egg/bacon, here's some more items to ponder: A sausage and bacon grilled stuft burrito, a guacamole bacon grilled stuft burrito, a bacon and egg crunchwrap, cinnamon toastadas, a southwest sausage burrito, an egg bean and cheese burrito, Bell breakfast potatoes and Tropicana orange juice.

Prices range from 79 cents to $2.79. The breakfast items in those four test markets will be available from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. only. Sorry. I guess you're outta luck if you desire an eggy crunchwrap at midnight.

Hi,

I was wondering how you got ahold of a Taco Bell representative.  I am in a marketing class and I have a huge final project and I live in Toledo Ohio so this would be a great topic.  Could you help me out?  I don't know how to go about getting ahold of someone from Taco Bell.

Thanks,

Angela

I remember in the early 90s when my local TB up in the Bay Area served brekkie.  It was the best grub before a Saturday morning staff meeting (ah, those first jobs).  I was saddened when I realized none of the chain was serving it when i moved down a decade ago.  But now I have something to look forward to on Saturday mornings once again.  The taco thing is a little unusual, but after having breakfast pasta (Off Vine), pan fried trout or Dutch Baby (Plum's) or anything Del Taco, I'm not surprised.

Hey I wonder why they wouldn't just do some real mexican brekfast dishes such as huevos rancheros rather than these anglo breakfasts stuffed in a tortilla?

Now you're talking Kristy....But, remember, Taco Bell food is geared for your so-called "anglo" types...That means, fast, familar and portable..So, messy, drippy but delicious huevos rancheros, is probably not in TB's future.
