Humeur actuelle :  plein d’espoir

As you know, I urged the young people to vote.  And I'm so gratified that we had the largest number of young people voting that we've ever had.  Of course, I was careful not to sway their votes.  But I must admit, I'm very happy that our country has made such a historical move.  The world will be astounded that the United States has elected a black man to lead them.  I never imagined that such an event would be possible during my lifetime.  I think our country will now go on a course that permits us to work with other countries.

The comments that I received from other countries all tell me how much people have the same dreams and we must all work together in order to fulfill those dreams.

Dear Mr Douglas (Danielovitch),

I am pleased that you got to see such an historical change in the American psyche in your lifetime. You must have seen (and influenced) so many changes in your 92 years: the Depression, World War II, McCarthyism, Rock n Roll, Martin Luther King, Vietnam, the end of the Cold War, etc.

It was heartening to see you urging the young people in this historic election and I think your influence did make a difference. Hopefully, for America, this is the start of a whole new world view and the end of isolationistic policies. The world is waiting to welcome a new America into a new world order. Aside from economics, I am an eternal optimist that human nature's good side will win out in the end.

On a personal note, I would like to thank you for all the entertainment you brought into our lives. The world would have been a duller place if you had never become an actor. I would also like to send you early birthday wishes.

Cheers
James

Obama represents 'hope' and 'change' ? what does that mean? Those are just buzzwords meant to grab your emotions. Do you think we now have 'hope' that all Americans will come together and work for the good of all. That wont happen. The liberals wouldnt come together with the conservatives and work as one to help Pres. Bush. All Americans could have rallied around McCain because he is in the middle politically ( where most Americans are ), but Obama is so far to the left ( with the most extreme liberal voting record in congress ) that he couldnt possibly represent more than a small percentage of Americans. And what about this word 'change'. Is it going to be good change or bad change? Is censorship good change? The incoming administration is planning on silencing talk radio because they dont like other opinions that are different. The liberals are afraid of conservative opinion and they cant beat them in the free-market of ideas. The libs tried to beat Rush and Hannity with liberal talk shows, but nobody wanted to listen to that, and their shows went off the air. It doesnt matter that Obama finished at the top of his class, and it doesnt matter his skin color- the only thing that matters is that his ideas and his agenda are too leftist/socialist, and too radical for America.

Mr. Douglas, Kirk if I may, of course you must try to sway the votes of every American! That is what our democracy is all about! Even though I worked for John McCain, I am pleased that America has put an African-American in the White House. A giant step forward for all of us, not just African Americans. My God, has President Elect Obama got a hard row to hoe! Stay well and exercise...EVERY DAY!!! Dan Sample in Hollywood www. snakebit-texas. com

i agree with you completely...however just that the democratic party had narrowed it down to a woman or a raced man meant that history was in the making either way....i think obama is a great person to represent america to other countries because we are a melting pot and he represents that and a voice of change.

thank you for sharing your insights and encouraging us always not only with your words but with your life.

You are so right!
We are still indeed a Brave New World and we are again the global pioneers. This was even a shock to me, as though I hoped for this outcome, I did not think we had it in us to make it happen. Sone of my family lives in France, they were glued to CNN and celebrated as we did.

Hope is back.

Mr. Douglas I hope that this email finds you and your family well. I supported John McCain during the election and my candidate fell short of winning. I am a proud American and I will be hopeful that the President elect will lead this country and restore our integrity as a nation to other countries. All eyes will be on him.
He is going to have to have big shoulders right out of the hopper!

Mr. Douglas, I too share your hope for the future. Election night, I started looking for what the rest of the world was saying. It seems to me that the entire world was holding its breath, waiting to see what we Americans did. Now that we have voted for change, for a new direction, we have a chance to rebuild the relationships the we have damaged.

Mr.
Douglas,

I don't know about you, but when it happened I was stunned. I couldn't believe it actually happened. Not just because of Obama's race, but because it was a repudiation of the archaic policies that have held this country back for decades. Now if some one will kindly tell Sarah Palin she lost.

Too bad, Martin Luther King Jr. was a REPUBLICAN who didn't believe in ANY of the garbage that Barack Hussein Obama and the rest of the Democratic, Liberal, Left-Wing, Socialist, Communist party believes in. Simply amazing how stupid most Americans are and how ignorant they are. If something is repeated often enough, the zombies of the world will believe it. Martin Luther King Jr. was against abortion (the 1 killer of young black Americans), he was against homosexuality, he was against the government controlling the people (i.e. BIG government - let Uncle Sam do EVERYTHING for you) and he believed in 'equal rights', not 'extra rights'. In only a few decades the zombots of the United States have been brainwashed by the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Bill Clinton etc. all into believing that the Democratic party stood for the beliefs of Martin Luther King Jr., when in fact it is the total opposite. Al Gore Sr. (Democrat) filibustered the civil rights act. George Wallace (Democrat) stood on the steps of the school and blocked the entrance of the black students. Senator Byrd (Democrat) was a member of the KKK (maybe he still is?). John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy (Democrats) tried to make MLK out to be a spy. Abraham Lincoln (Republican) freed the slaves. Dwight Eisenhower (Republican) pushed the civil rights act. John Kennedy voted against the civil rights act. On and on it goes. Congrats America (and 85% of Black Americans). You spit in the face of a man in with his name on a street and highway in just about every city and county in the United States, the only man with a U.S. federal holiday in his honor, just to get a black man (half-black) into the White House. A man who stands for keeping you in further bondage (that's what socialism and communism is all about). I hope I am wrong. If not, it's too bad Mr. Douglas (who I think is a GREAT actor - not politician) probably won't live to see the path of destruction that America is about to take. For all the complaints people have about President George Bush, I am glad that the United States has suffered no more attacks like what happened on 9/11, since. 9/11 was a result of 8 years of Clinton (and four years of Bush Sr, I will add) letting the terrorists run wild. If you think we can back down and all will be well, you've got another thing coming. I've been to these countries and I've talked to these people. They have a totally different philosophy on things. They will sit down and talk, just before they cut your head off. They will shake your hand and smile at you, just before their buddy jams a machete in your back.

I voted since 1974, there was a lot of hard choices and some I wish I could do over again, but voting this time was easier and exciting and to see this country elected a person who several generations ago would have been in terrible situation, is, well, electrifying! I am proud of America and as Vet and seen how some other people live, I wouldn't want to do over again!

We do all share the same dreams--especially that everyone has the right to live their lives unfettered by prejudice and injustice. You are living proof that the passion to make those dreams come true need never die. No matter how many terrible things happen in the world, no matter how much you've seen of life, that passion is what makes life worth living.

I am a third-generation liberal democrat, and my 14-year-old son, now treasurer of his High School Young Democrats Club, is already representing the 4th.
When you pass on the passion to your children, you see their hearts take fire!

Why is it when i read your writing i hear your voice so clearly? It must be because i like you. My Dad passed away and so when i see a fella like you;i say;"Hello Dad." Its like Kirk is my pretend Dad;but kinda real to me. Obama has gathered a social circle of a very adept work force. The world may be pleased in the selection of Obama as President. i chatted with my friend who speaks fluent Russian and he visits Russia frequently over the past few years. He mentioned to me the resistant image Putin and some Russians may have a sterotyped Obama. Commander Harry, my Dad never said anything negative about the Russians. When he flew the Aleution Islands, The Bering Straight out of Alaska; his bomber would fly by the Russian bear bomber. He and the Russian pilot would wave at each other like they were old friends. A mixed or black president has impressed the world. A man can attain great heights in life. Obama will help to offset offensive images or misconceptions of people. General Colin Powell is my favorite Black leader. i have always liked him from the start. Whoever is our President; we should respect him and support him.

I'm excited too! I grew up in Tennessee and racism is still pretty rampant there. It was nothing for me to hear the n-word from friends and family members.

When I was a very little girl, my parents watched "Roots" and I remember seeing parts of it. That movie changed my life. I was too young to understand many of the things that were happening in the film, but I learned some things that would guide my way of thinking forever.

I will never forget watching the scene where they were whipping Kunta Kinte. It was pretty graphic for such a young girl as myself. I asked my dad, "Why are they doing that to him?" and he told me, "They are hurting him because of the color of his skin. They don't like him just because he is a different color from them. Everything they are doing to him, they are doing it because of his skin color. Isn't that sad?" I was stunned. Even as a child I determined, at that very moment, that I would never treat someone like that for such a ridiculous reason.

I will remember that moment forever. It is very likely that "Roots" saved me from growing up to have racist views. It was so much a part of everyday life that it would have been 100% natural for me to absorb racist ways of thinking.

It's so delightful to me that we now have a president-elect of mixed-racial heritage! I hope that this just furthers the progress of race relations in our country and that more ethnic children will grow up knowing that they truly CAN be anything that they want to be.

yes this was an amazing turnout 33% of our youth protecting their future...myself born in Newyork in the late 50's, and growing up a Jewish girl in Connecticut(one of the few families...) and the Catskills, my opinion is we all are one and I can not tolerate bigots and the rude, cruelty we can show to each other as humans with brains...living West almost 21 yrs, lived back east a few times since, but also I have lived in Georgia, Texas,Arizona, California, and Florida and now in Nevada...am so happy and proud of our country for voting, standing up, and letting Barack Obama do what he was born to do...be our President... Black or White...and I proudly voted...and felt damn good about it cause the other choice was a joke to me...
