They are brothers from another mother and willing to shed blood for family.

This five-piece group of L.A. musicians mix old school reggae with rock, soul and funk, heavily influenced by The Meters, James Brown and Wilson Pickett, among others. Their sound is a thick blend of rhythm and melody, seasoned by years of love. The result is the infectious sound called "dirty reggae."

They are Jesse Wagner (vocals, lead guitar, prophecies), Korey Horn (drums, master of thunder & lightning), J. Bonner (bass king), Roger Rivas (keys, machine gun fingers) and Brian Dixon (rhythm guitar, A.K.47)

Nearly eight months straight on the road, criss-crossing the U.S. and jetting back and forth to Europe, The Aggrolites are one of the world's hardest working bands and with serious talent to boot. But they see themselves as one mean unit, a machine!

If you have ever seen one of their shows then you know they have the chops, chemistry, talent and that something special the Almighty gave them at birth to take this Aggrolites "machine" to the highest mountain.

The Aggrolites already have two albums to their credit -- "Dirty Reggae" (Axe, 2003) and the critically acclaimed self-titled "The Aggrolites" (Hellcat/Epitaph, 2006). Peter Relic from Rolling Stone Magazine raves, "A glorious, surprising treat. Ideal for your next soul shakedown party." The anthem "Dirty Reggae" also appeared on Epitaph's "Give Em The Boot IV" compilation CD.

They recently completed their third album due to hit this June. It will be the second of their three album deal for indie label Hellcat/Epitaph. Singer Jesse Wagner sums it up best, "We've been breaking our backs on the road for months and when we got back from touring we poured our blood, sweat and tears into this album. It's the tightest one yet. The real deal!" A month-long album launch party throughout California is in the works.

While out on tour they knew when they arrived back in LA there was no time to relax, it would be straight into the studio. From city to city and continent to continent, the band hacked their way into the hearts and minds of newly converted Aggro-fans. Since they were either in a bus, van or some other mode of transportation most of the time and unable to demo new tunes, they found opportunity during sound checks to throw out new hooks and licks in anticipation of what would eventually become the masterpiece - "Reggae Hit LA."

Once in the studio, despite the lack of completed tunes, the band found it amazingly easy to flow with lyrics, hooks, choruses, bridges…the whole thing just came together in a matter of three days! All the anxieties, hurdles, exhilarations and pain of the journey had paid off in a supernatural way. The Aggrolites, together, wrote and produced one hell of an album!

The title track says it all. It reflects two concepts the band formed while touring. One: The desire to represent who they are and where they come from. Los Angeles is in their blood - the culture, the weather the complexities of the city of angels. Two: While touring the US, The Aggrolites were stricken with the idea that they love the fact that LA has a reggae scene; one they can dig every week of the year and that's worth talking about. It's not something you can find in the heartland.

Another track that explains The Aggrolites position on things is "Work It." With its simple lyrics and traditional reggae M.O., the band found a platform to express their pride in being able to get the job done when it comes to entertaining a crowd and showing loyalty to their faithful fans. They have no problem saying to the world, you got to work it so you can get it and it ain't easy!

The Aggrolites have 15 addictive tracks on "Reggae Hit LA." they'll take you on a rhythmic and soulful journey, one that leaves a lasting impression along the lines of "What a relief, I thought they'd never come – a real band with real talent, that is."

The band has had the pleasure on collaborating with Rancid frontman and Hellcat head Tim Armstrong on 11 songs and 4 videos for his new solo CD/DVD entitled "A Poet's Life." "It was an honor to work with Tim. He gave us the freedom to make our sound HIS sound," boasts Jesse.

They have also shared the stage with Jamaican music legends (Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, The Skatalites), ska veterans (Madness, Rancid, Hepcat) and rock outfits (Ozomatli, Dropkick Murphys), among countless other talents.

It took me a while to get in to this band but I am pleasantly surprised by their latest album which hasn't been off the cd player ever since. You can see my review of 'Reggae Hit L.A.' HERE

"Never less than attention grabbing" (Artrocker) "Throbbing art-punk noise and sexy urgent energy" (Time Out New York) "A Neutrinos show will leave you dazed, shocked, maybe scared, but certainly thrilled." (World Of Gigs, NYC) "Led by the mesmerising Karen Reilly, it takes the band seconds to gain full attention. .... I always feel that if a band makes you want to buy their CD before their set is over, it's going to be good night. " (BBC On line) "Oh my god have you seen The Neutrinos?!" A music writer friend gasped. Her enthusiasm warranted investigation, with the result that we HAD to book them! Must have ENTERTAINING entertainment! The Neutrinos fused at the turn of the century and became a force to be reckoned with by 2004 when they released Sick Love their emotive first album, produced by Paul Sampson (Primitives, Catatonia). They've had national radio play from John Peel, Mary-Ann Hobbs and Zoe Ball (a big fan) and they come heavily recommended as a band to catch up close! Their raucous theatrical live performance has been described as a female Nick Cave front Queens Of The Stone Age and has built them a loyal following on home turf in East Anglia. There is an intensive art to The Neutrinos. Unashamed guitar music fronted by an audience hooking show woman, Karen Reilly, described as having "ball busting vocals" in a review of recent single "Build him till he breaks". The Neutrinos have got busier this year, been featured on BBC 6 Music, and been making a name for themselves at art college gigs, Alan McGee's clubs and international adventures take them to Canada in June to be part of NXNE in Toronto.

I was sent a copy of the Neutrinos album for review which is brilliant and you can see that review
HERE. On the basis of this album I just had tto interview the Neutrinos and this is what they had to say for themselves HERE.

Love them or hate them but no one can deny that Conflict don't make people think. From the moment they formed they set out to educate and not just in the world of Punk Rock N Roll either. Conflict have been breaking down barriers ever since they formed and to this day they set out to preach to the uncoverted. At times it's been hard but the people behind Conflict are dedicated to their causes. No one could be as more dedeciated to the Animal Liberation cause as vocalist 'Colin Jerwood' is. Still many don't understand Conflict so I decided it was time run a detailed interview with Colin Jerwood and this is what he had to say HERE.

The Meaning of Censorship: Truth & Beauty Covered in Duct Tape

Two people having sex in a beautiful and real way or a half naked woman selling a new sports car? The word FUCK in a song that is so visceral you tremble with the guitar strings or non-profane words in a speech of lies from a president? The naked breasts of a body honest to our skin and to what we all truly are stripped away or reality television shows with Beverly Hills beach bunnies getting nose jobs and their 4 breast augmentation? These are the options we are not given. This is what we are obsessed with. This is how we define profanity and let idiocy take its place. This is the sheltered mentality of censorship.

On public television, nudity is illegal along with a list of "bad" words…yet can anyone truly say they haven't been bombarded with imagines of advertisements cheapening sex and stretching the innuendos as far as they can reach on the sexual spectrum, but never are we allowed to see the honest side of sex. Lyrics to songs must be altered to not damage the virginal ears of the public, but idiotic rap artists can get on and sing about abuse in "slapping the hoes" with million dollars worth of bling-bling on, who ironically turn around and go to third world countries and say they care…but that is another article entirely. Artists with a cause or controversial opinion in that they want to challenge the status quo aren't allowed on mass airwaves if they want to keep their work whole without alteration.

The point isn't one I will drag on or make much bigger than it truly is…its simple: STOP CENSORING ART IN ANY OF ITS FORMS!!! Few things make me angrier than when I am singing along to a song I love and the bleep is ever present over the "bad" word or when I watch a tv show that pans away for the sex scene but not the one where the women is wearing a 2 inch skirt and tank top and rubbing all against a guy to steal him from Blanche or Kendall or any other soap opera-esque name imaginable.

Honesty is beautiful and honesty can't exist with censorship of the arts. In the political spectrum when news doesn't show us the facts on war or other crisis the world is in, the situation becomes ever more desperate. Truth is what we as humans are entitled to, but as long as decisions are made for us of what is immoral or profane based on their prudish codes, we will never be free to let the truth in…as long as honesty and truth are bound with duct tape by the powers that be, we all mine as well wear matching duct tape over our mouths and ears.

From the desolate and seedy city streets rises CJ SLEEZ; rock & rolls new diva. Fronted by an infamous and outrageous young blonde, the band has a raw, explosive and unapologetic approach to music. Exuberant eroticism combined with a shameless dedication to power chords brings sleezy rock'n'roll to a new level of decadence. This trash vixen, clad in tight leather, high heels and covered in tattoos attacks the stage with stunning defiance. The reaction of the audience ranges from slam dancing to doing the twist. The band boasts a guarantee that no one will leave a CJ SLEEZ show untouched by the spectacle.

CJ Sleez is one cool lady and the short time I've been communicating with her I know she's the real deal. I was sent her autobiography which is a wicked read and a CDEP she did a couple of years back. Top stuff and you can read what I have to say about both items by going HERE

Are Punk Festivals Killing The UK Scene?

The UK gig scene is almost on it's knees in places where shows have pretty poor turn outs despite the fact a well known band are playing or the advertised has promoted the show to death. With Punk Rock pretty much on the up in the UK one has to wonder why the scene isn't that well supported when it comes to live music?

OK some may blame downloading music files and You Tube making it easy not to have to walk out your house to see or hear a band.

Some blame apathy.

But what about the large amount of Punk festivals in the UK these days? You have Rebellion, Spead Freaks Ball and now Concrete Jungle all of whom charge a lot of money so you can be at one of all these festivals. It isn't just the entry fee either. You have to book chalets/Bed + Breakfasts and then find beer money for 3 days.

Ok the good part is you can see a huge amount of bands at these festivals which for many isn't a bad thing but surely instead of relying on just three festivals a year why not support your local venue where many of these bands could play on a weekly or monthly basis?

To me Punk Rock is about going to a pub/club and seeing three bands and having a great DJ inbetween. It's isn't about holiday camps and all the nostaligia that follows these festivals.

There's people out there up and down the UK wanting to put on more shows but can't be bothered because they're just losing money left right and centre and that isn't right. Surely you should be supporting your local promoter and your local scene first. That's what Punk Rock is all about.

When all the festival organisers get bored and you still want to see bands what you're going to when your local venue closes down?

It's finally here, 15 years after its inception, the story our Government did not want told!

Written by former ALF organiser, Keith Mann, From Dusk 'til Dawn is a detailed account of the advance of the Animal Liberation Movement from historic thinkers to the English hunt saboteurs of the 1960's, from the Animal Liberation Front of the 1970's and 80's to the focussed campaigners of the 1990's, including their global reach, and the dramatic state response to it all.

Agree with him or not it is surely to be encouraged that the pen has taken the place of the boltcutters for one man. It's a powerful story, cleverly constructed by an insider often described by the media as an extremist, once even as a monster. His book, which was fifteen years in the making, was born during a lengthy prison sentence for Animal Liberation Front campaigns. His escape from custody in 1994 nearly scuppered the project but his determination to document the growth of the animal liberation movement ensured its completion, and what an incredible and gripping story he has to tell.

Endorsed by Morrissey, and with a foreword from Benjamin Zephaniah, From Dusk 'til Dawn is a must-read for anyone wishing to understand why people break the law to protect animals from exploitation.

I'm currently reading this book and for any one into the Animal Rights cause this is like a bible. It's a goldmine of information.

For the people unsure about the A.R. cause and how activists go about doing their work you really need to read this to begin to undersatand why people take such actions on behalf of abused and defenceless animals.

For the people totally opposed to the A,R, cause read and learn. There is time to change your way of life.

Tiger Army are back with an album to top their last one 'III: Ghost Tigers Rise'. Not many would have thought that Tiger Army would have reached the point where they were sharing stages with the likes of 'Morrissey'. The first time I heard them I knew they were going to be huge. There was no doubt in my mind that they wouldnn't make it - After all bands of this quality don't come along very often these day. When I was sent their current album for review I was blown away by the sheer quality of it and you can see that review HERE

Pamela Moore has had a pretty diverse career. Although the singer is widely known for being the riveting voice of "Sister Mary" on Queensryche's legendary concept album, Operation: Mindcrime, she's also released her own recordings, contributed her voice to various radio and television commercials, and has a background in theater.

Pamela was given the opportunity to record her first album with a now defunct Seattle based record label, First American Records. Her first release Take A Look did very well regionally and was one of the stepping-stones that lead her down the path she finds herself now. A second release, You Wont Find Me There was recorded a year later but never had a chance to surface as the company folded just after its release. It was a disappointing time but in retrospect, the experience was great for me. Grooming her to become (as Billboard Magazine penned) an AOR, Blue-eyed soul artist, destined for success. A far cry from what was to be her most memorable endeavor, Queensryche.

The latter came in handy over the past two years, as Moore joined Queensryche for an extensive world tour, reprising and expanding her familiar role as the love interest of "Nikki," Operation: Mindcrime's central character.

Aside from live performances and solo recording projects, Pamela did some work with a band from New York, Radar. She moved to New York, living there for 2 years to work on her craft before returning home to Seattle. Radar released their debut album in 2000.

Other projects Pamela has been involved with are; work with Brian Johnson of AC/DC, singing backup on a few selected concerts with Paul Rodgers of Bad Company, and cameo stage appearances with her cousin, Terri Nunn of Berlin.

I like what Pamela Moore is all about and it was a please hearing her recent solo album 'Stories From A Blue' and you can see that review HERE

Jailing The Brave

Stand up, fight! Scream for the voiceless innocent! What do you get for doing this?

Jail time.

The ever growing list of political prisoners is sickening to all of us out there fighting against injustices and cruelties. A quick visit to ecoprisoners.com and it's obvious that something is wrong in a world that allows those who try to bring freedom to only get captivity in cells in return.

Now, who can watch the undercover videos of sadistic science labs or 24 hour cruelty marathons in factory farms, and NOT be moved to set them all free, is someone with a heart corroded over or at least bought at the low, low price of a $3.47 McDonald's Happy Meal. How can we throw those, who give freedom to a far too shackled world, in prison with less than fair trials and then say our world is somehow progressing to a better place?

The most infamous animal liberation group is the revered ALF (Animal Liberation Front) and they work worldwide, all the while hidden behind their ski masks, and save countless animals every year from all corners of the universe that are subjecting their animals to cruelty and, in turn, give them to a loving home and environment. They face heavy opposition from the conservative sides of government the world over and have since persuaded many people against them claiming that they are putting humans at risk, take extreme, uncalled for measures, and are too violent…but to this, a quote from a 1987 BBC interview by the UK ALF leader Tim Daly says it best, "In a war you have to take up arms and people will get killed, and I can support that kind of action by petrol bombing and bombs under cars, and probably at a later stage, the shooting of vivisectors on their doorsteps. It's a war, and there's no other way you can stop vivisectors."

So the war is raging outside you very door at this moment and yes: if you fight, you might be jailed, and yes: if you save those helpless creatures the world be a better place and finally, yes: if you fight and save, you will have made the most beautiful sacrifice possible in the world.

Freedom is worth all costs. Liberation is Priceless. Equality is worth dying for.

Joe Shithead Keithley's brand new album

"Band of Rebels"

D.O.A. and Canada's godfather of punk, JOE SHITHEAD KEITHLEY. This 14 song album combines punk-a-billy, ska, punk and roots rock. It's funny, political, upbeat, and incredibly energetic. The songs talk about smokin' pot, troublemaking, Star Trek, revolution, and fucking with corporations.

Standout tracks are: "Bust Me Loose", "Record Company Ripoff",
"Rebel Kind" and "Fuck The Corporation". There's also a kick ass cover of STEPPENWOLF's "Born To Be Wild". The 12 guest musicians are loosely known as the "Dirty Dozen" and include RANDY RAMPAGE (D.O.A., ANNILHILATOR), KEVIN KANE (GRAPES OF WRATH), JESSE ZUBOT (ZUBOT AND DAWSON), THE GREAT BALDINI (D.O.A., DOG EAT DOGMA), JOHN KORSRUD (HARD RUBBER ORCHESTRA) and BILL RUNGE (HARD RUBBER ORCHESTRA).

JOE SHITHEAD KEITHLEY, Canada's infamous anti-hero, has won over a couple of generations of fans and performers through his work in D.O.A., his writing and his activism. He's influenced artists like GREEN DAY, THE RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS, NIRVANA, RANCID, NOFX, BAD RELIGION, HENRY ROLLINS, JELLO BIAFRA and IAN MCKAYE.

When asked why he has recorded a solo album when D.O.A. is still going strong, Shithead had this to say; "I got to stretch out and try new things, this is a different way to fight the system. Band of Rebels is like an extension of D.O.A., musically it's a little different, but it's still nuts and it's still meant to cause trouble and stir shit up!"

This album is the nuts and you can read my review HERE

Running From Pain To Only Trip Later

So happiness is the whole point in these lives of ours right? Wrong! Yet, I see most people running like scared children from any sign of struggle and go on to live a sheltered existence without any scars…war wounds…or any mark indicating they fought for where they are. Without the pain in life and the realization that it will save you, you are as good as eating TV dinners in front of the tube in your suburban two story till you die a safe death.

Sorry to be clichéd, but life is a constant struggle and the fights you take on along the way define who you are as a human being. We view pain as a negative and something to be avoided, even at the cost of numerous revelations. So you now have a situation on your hands that break most people…but why crumble together and leave the world with endless corners of dust? Why not fight with fists blazing until all of you is overtaken or you beat it…maybe you're not the people you were when you started with the same ideas or perspectives, but THAT is the point…evolution of self.

You think you can live with the want to be happy? That's when you wind up selfish or a junkie or a person rotted with fear…when you fight the struggles that stab you first or you take on the worldly struggles and allow the possibility of being stabbed into your point of view, this is the point where you are beautiful, powerful, and fearless because you realize you will grow with every struggle, smile and appreciate every naturally happy moment, and smile to know that you conquered an evil…the scars aren't ugly reminders, but sacred marks from a ritual killing of fear.

Am I asking that we all never smile and make happiness the enemy? No. But what I want to see is fights in the streets over the worldly injustices, the look in the eyes of life warriors who have battled and conquered whatever pain came their way, the feel of scars under my fingers as I hold these survivors that have stories no ordinary life civilian could tell or ever understand…I want a league or generation of strong people who don't want or discard happiness and people who don't run from pain. I want pain to be respected and want to feel the masses begin to respect themselves as they battle it.

In the late 1970s the first raw, sloppy, speeding guitar chords began to blare from the garages and backrooms of a Southern California suburb called Orange County. They echoed a sound forged in the preceding years in the seminal punk undergrounds of New York City and London.

By 1979, a 17 year old kid named Mike Ness had formed Social Distortion with drummer Casey Royer and brothers Rikk and Frank Agnew. The band's world centered around Mike's one-bedroom pad, dubbed "the black hole," in a nondescript Fullerton, CA apartment complex. After meeting Dennis Danell, a punk loving classmate, Ness insisted Danell, who at the time didn't play an instrument, join the band on bass. Royer and the Agnew's soon split from the band and eventually form The Adolescents.

Local Los Angeles KROQ-FM deejay Rodney Bingenheimer embraced Orange County music, playing highlights from its major local bands, including Social Distortion, on his Sunday night radio show. In 1981, Social Distortion released their first single, "Mainliner/Playpen," on the Posh Boy label. Around the same time, Mike Ness developed a reputation as a brawler resulting in a chunk of his left ear being bitten off during a confrontation at the Cuckoo's Nest bar.

In 1982, Social Distortion, along with LA's Youth Brigade and DC's Minor Threat, are the subjects of the documentary "Another State of Mind," which captures the band's first stormy cross-continental tour in a beat up school bus. By late 1983, Social Distortion's line up consisted of Mike Ness, Danell (now on rhythm guitar), bassist Brent Liles, and drummer Derek O'Brien. Released on the 13th Floor label, their debut album, Mommy's Little Monster, gained the band a national name in punk circles. Returning home, the line up now included a nasty heroin habit for Ness. The madness that followed resulted in Brent Liles and Derek O'Brien bailing out of the band in the middle of a New Year's Eve 1983 show.

Ness and Danell soon recruited John Maurer, another old school buddy from Fullerton to play bass and Christopher Reece, of the San Francisco band The Lewd, came in on drums. This lineup weathered Social Distortion's toughest years, as Ness struggled with heroin addiction and the resulting series of jailings and detoxes, which finally ended in 1985. Ness is able to continue writing and hold the band together to being work on a new album. In 1988, Social Distortion emerge with the release of Prison Bound, an album whose moving title cut about a wasted life is one of the greatest songs ever to come out of Orange County. Ness turned Social Distortion's albums into an ongoing dialogue about impulsiveness, its consequences and the hard struggle to overcome.

In addition to the early punk of The Ramones and The Clash, the band's sound was culled equally from Ness' love of roots music, specifically early country music greats like Hank Williams and the early blues recordings of the South. As Ness would later declare to Social Distortion audiences, "Without good black music, there would be no good white music."

The self titled Social Distortion album followed in 1990. It is SD's first release on a major label. The success of singles "Story Of My Life" and "Ball And Chain," along with their remarkable cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire," make the album Social Distortion's first Gold record. The band are asked to join Neil Young on tour, beginning the process of bending punk expectation. They soon return with 1992's Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell lead by the blistering single "Bad Luck," the album also goes Gold. A co-headlining tour with The Ramones follows.

The band took an extended hiatus following the release of Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, and did not return to the studio until the fall of 1995. Earlier that year, Time Bomb Recordings re-issued Mommy's Little Monster, Prison Bound, and released the single compilation Mainliner, Wreckage from the Past. Social D return in 1996 with a new album, White Light White Heat White Trash, and a new drummer, Chuck Biscuits of Black Flag and D.O.A. fame. The album is a success atop radio favorites "I Was Wrong" and "When The Angels Sing." The band sign up as one of the main draws of the 1997 Warped Tour and then record and release the live album Live At The Roxy in 1998.

A solo record, Cheating At Solitaire, was released by Mike Ness in 1999. The album is an homage to the classic country, blues, rockabilly, and folk that shaped him as a songwriter. Later that same year Ness released Under The Influences, a collection of cover tunes further showcasing his love of American roots music with songs written by legends Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, and Carl Perkins among others.

On February 29, 2000, then 38-year old guitarist Dennis Danell dies suddenly of heart failure. At the time Mike is quoted: "I am saddened beyond any possible form of expression. Dennis and I have been friends since boyhood, starting Social Distortion while we where in high school. My deepest regrets to his family." In the Fall of 2000, Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham (guitar) and Charlie Quintana (drums) officially join Social Distortion. 3 years later Social Distortion head into the studio to record a new record - their first full-length studio record in 7 years and the first record without Dennis Danell. A live DVD, Live in The Orange County, is released in 2004. On August 5, 2004, after 20 years of serving as Social Distortion's bass player John Maurer decides to leave the band for personal reasons after having completed the recording of Sex, Love and Rock'n' Roll, the new Social Distortion album.

The album is well received nationwide, bolstered by the success of the single "Reach For The Sky." Brent Harding of Ness' solo touring band joins Social Distortion as their full time bassist. In 2005, the band go on to sell out a record 6 nights at The Wiltern theater in Los Angeles, that's in addition to the record 37 shows sold out as part of their regular year end multi-night stands at House Of Blues clubs across the Southwest - an almost annual tradition since 2001.

Well last Monday (June 25th 07) Social Distortions 'Greatest Hits' cd was released and you can read what I have to say about it HERE

Birth of The ETA in Fascist Spain

Franco's oppressive regime ruled Spain and resistance sparked up in every corner, including the formation of a new and unique group, the ETA.

The young Basques were frustrated and ready to call on their rich heritage of resistance, but upon meeting with the famed Basque Nationalist Party, they were shocked and disappointed to find this older generation was simply content with hiding and waiting for Franco to die.

These young Basques, including Jose Luis Alvarez, were not content with this response. Alvarez had just recently spent time in jail for belonging to a student movement and though he admits that he and others lacked political philosophy after jail time and the disappointing meeting the Basque Nationalist Party, they knew something had to be done against Franco's oppression of Euskera(Basque language) and the people.

In 1952 five of these students organized their own
movement. They structured the newfound group, Aberri Ta Askatasuna (Homeland and Liberty), into small cell units in different areas, one in San Sebastian and the other in Bilbao, to with stand the Gaurdia Civil's penetration and oppression. They quickly found however that "ata' in a certain dialect of Euskera "ata' translated to "duck', which led to the new name- Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) and official founding date.

ETA immediately began undertaking it's anti-Franco
activities. They published an underground journal, Ekin (to act, to persist), promoting the forbidden Basque language and agitating for an end of Spain's imperialist regime in Basque country. By the end of 1959 the ETA had grown to over 200 members who studied devoutly other liberation movements.

From their examination of liberation movements the
ETA began to use more confrontational tactics, this is not surprising due to the fact that their long history was based on strong resistance. Statues and walls through out the country started to bare the message: GORA EUSKADI!

As the message spread and the walls became covered, the ETA kept pushing forward. The ETA's first claimed act of revolution was the bombing of the elevator in the Gauardia Civil headquarters. Then in 1961 they derailed a train carrying Spanish statesmen celebrating the anniversary of the 1936 coup d'etat. There were no casualties but the ETA had sent a message that could not be ignored like those sprayed across statues, Franco's regime entered Basque Country at their own risk.

Franco's government responded quickly with mass arrests and torture of 100 Basque people. However the prisoners were soon released as Franco was not concerned with stopping the ETA but extracting revenge . This would define the future of the ETA movement under Franco's regime, a cycle.

The ETA also during this time began to develop political ideology, mainly that stemming from Marx, towards a society based on Socialism. With a socialist ideology the ETA began to move further away from the Basque Nationalist Party. The ETA turned its attention on organizing and working with the working class. As the ETA began to key the phrases of class struggle and revolution, Franco became more worried. His worry turned to more oppressive action when two ETA members killed a Guardia Civil. The eye for an eye cycle continued when the Guardia Civil assassinated a known ETA member. The acts of defiance and oppression became more violent and open. The ETA hope that these provocations would first provoke the Basque people, and then would lead to a general uprising.

The resistance and fight with Franco's regime continued. The new slogan waved by the ETA read: Iraultza ala hil! (Revolution or Death!). Other groups (primarily Anarchist and Catalan) began to issue their support to the ETA's fight. When 3 ETA members were condemned to death, demonstrations broke out, not only in Pamplona and Bilbao, but also in Barcelona and Madrid, not mention support poured in from France, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, and Australia. Due to this pressure Franco canceled the executions and commuted the sentences to life in prison.

The ETA was not defeated by the oppression and imprisonment. ETA commandos carried out one of their most effective and dangerous political assassinations in December of 1973. After staking out Franco's right hand man, Admiral Carrero Blanco, the man who was sure to fill Franco's shoes after his passing, and carry on Francoism in Franco's tradition, the ETA commandos set a trap for him at his routine church service. At 9:30am Carrero Blanco's car pulled up and parked. Then a large crash and explosion, the car was blown several stories in the air care of dynamite packed deep under the pavement of the spot he always parked.

This action led to the popular anti-fascist joke in Spanish. "Una bache mas, un carbon menos" (One more pothole, one less asshole).

By 1975 the ETA were suspected of killing 38 and countless attacks against the state. In response Franco had two Basque political prisoners assassinated by firing squad. Riots broke out and one angry mob set fire to the Spanish embassy in Lisbon. But Franco was not going anywhere.

The ETA remained an active fighting force up until Franco's death. However the mass uprising they had hoped for never came to fruition. Today the ETA has once again been launched into the media spotlight with various car bombings and actions against the Spanish government, which has once again led to great oppression against the Basque and various anarchist and revolutionary groups due to supportive ties to the ETA. Though nationalism is a false divide and usually implemented by the State to keep the masses ignorant, Basque country, much like countless others, still remains absorbed by western capitalist powers (France and Spain). The Basque struggle for freedom is an important one, it is one of the countless battles still being waged against centuries of fascist oppression.

Street Voice supports ETA and it's struggle for independence for the Basque people. For decades the Basque people have been denied their independence and seen key figures imprisoned, tortured and mudered by consecutive Spanish governments. In 2007 these people should be granted their independence and we at Street Voice will continue to support that struggle.

We would like to point out that the world's media has ETA down as terrorists but then again they have the A.L.F. and other Animal Rights groups down as terrorists too! Yeah OK! Instead of taking in what the media tells you go and find the truth out for yourself on sites like Indymedia.

For analysis of ETA you should read the excellent "The Basque history of the world" by Mark Kurlansky which can be purchased HERE

While it's sad that ETA has declared it's ceasfire over it's up to everyone to hassle the Spanish Government to get off their arses and make things happen for the Basque people. In doing so ETA will more than likely restore their ceasfire.

When you read in the media that a bomb has been planted at an airport in Ibiza by ETA that is the situation caused by an ignorant Spanish Government.

London/Glasgow Car Bombs

No comment to make through Street Voice yet as we don't want people to draw conclusions. Once we know who is responsible then we will comment. We expect you to do the same. Rumours aren't fact and I wouldn't be surprised if the press will have a field day attacking the Muslim community of Great Britain over the next few days.

Again it's continious ridiculous overseas policies made by our Government that has made a our country a target and we have to realise that these attacks wil continue until our Goverment changes it's ways.

I wont hold my breath though!!!
