"The metal community has lost one of the most talented and skillful drummers of our time! I remember when I first heard DECAPITATED's 'Organic Hallucinosis' and it just blew me away! What a band and WHAT A DRUMMER!!! Vitek was a true talent and drummer genius and his passing is just so very, very wrong! The future will be a sadder place without your drumming!!! Our thoughts go out to the band and to their families in this sad, sad moment.

"Rest in peace, Vitek."
Tomas Haake, Meshuggah

"It's still so abstract to me…I don't know what to say, don't know what to do. This morning's news brought a lot of pain in our lives and some reflections at the same time.

"We're not only missing a dear friend but also a great talent. It was so awesome to watch DECAPITATED growing bigger and bigger with every step they made.

"We just went off the stage in Denver, Colorado. Tonight we didn't play for ourselves; we didn't play for these people either. All we could do was to put up the best METAL show we could afford in honor of our friend.

"See you in the afterlife, Vitek!"
Nergal, Behemoth

"If you follow the metal news you have learned that Vitek, the 23-year-old drummer of Poland's DECAPITATED passed away due to severe head injuries from a traffic accident involving their tour bus on the roads in Russia.

"As a fellow metal drummer I feel the need to express my deepest condolences to his fellow band members, family and fans all over the world. The Polish metal scene has lost another great drummer.

"Personally I am not a huge fan of DECAPITATED. I've listened to their current album and enjoyed it, but there was no doubt that Vitek was a talented drummer who had a promising future ahead of him.

"It's always sad when people die and even more so when they are so young. And that it happened during a tour is quite scary. Week after week, people that I know — and every now and then myself — is out on the roads, driving long distances during uncomfortable hours, and anything can happen. A couple of years ago, my friends in the local punk band THE ACCIDENTS rolled of the ferry from Sweden to Germany in the early hours and crashed their tour-bus on the autobahn just a few minutes later (yes, their band monicker is ironic).

"THE ACCIDENTS were lucky. No injuries or fractures, just a few bruises, a totally smashed tour bus and a cancelled tour. Vitek and his fellow bandmate Covan (vocals) weren't.

"Let's all hope that Covan will recover and can comeback to the metal scene together with the rest of DECAPITATED in a new band or under the same name.

"Again: my deepest condolences."
Anders Jakobson, Nasum

"RIP Vitek! Spent seven weeks on tour with DECAPITATED in 2002. Vitek was without no doubt the most down to earth guy from them. Really sad to see someone so talented & being a great person to be killed in a accident while being on tour. Hope to see Covan recovering out of his injuries. Our thoughts go out to their family and friends and fellow DECAPITATED members."
Prejudice

"It's like a bad dream, I knew Vitek and every time DECAPITATED performed in Chicago area I spoke with him and the guys from the band; we know each other so long before even I came to U.S. I talked with him last time 6 or 7 months ago. He told me how happy he is with his wife and how great is to perform and playing drums around the world, especially in United States. He was so young and so excited about to be a part of metal scene...

"It's the most devastating thing happened in the whole metal community — I guess. We lost great young person who was one of the most talented drummers on death metal genre and such a nice joking and laughing person from the bands I know.

"R.I.P. Vitek. Deepest condolences to his family. I am crying now and my all thoughts are with him in this tough time."
Wawrzyn Chylinski, Against The Plagues, ex-Damnation, ex-Forest Of Impaled

"I'm truly devastated about this untimely passing, Vitek was without a doubt one of the most talented and hard-working extreme metal drummers around. He was a great inspiration to me, a mind-blowing force behind the kit. To die at such a young age and in such dramatic circumstances is just horrible. My deepest condolences to his wife and child, his family and friends, and to the band. Vitek will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Vitek."
Dirk Verbeuren, Soilwork

"It's with sad regret I learned this morning of the tragic passing of [DECAPITATED drummer Witold 'Vitek' Kieltyka]. I met him on the NILE tour. I was doing sound for HYPOCRISY, and DECAPITATED was sharing a bus with us. He was a real cool dude and very down to earth. We had some good times on that tour.

"I'm just out of words with what happened.

"On behalf of all in KATAKLYSM, our deepest thoughts are with Vitek's family and friends. We would also like to send positive messages to Adrian 'Covan' to keep fighting to get better and come back to the stage soon."
Jean-Francois Dagenais, Kataklysm

"Let it be known that we are shocked and saddened to hear about Vitek's passing. Our condolences to his family and the other DECAPITATED members. We will be playing for him tonight [at Teatria in Oulu, Finland]. We wish Adrian 'Covan' Kowanek a quick recovery!"
Dimmu Borgir

"It's with deep shock and sadness we have received the tragic news of the death of Witold 'Vitek' Kieltyka, drummer in DECAPITATED, and we want to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends. We were really looking forward to touring North America with DECAPITATED, and the news of the accident came as a real shock. We also want to send our best well wishes to Adrian 'Covan' Kowanek, who also was injured in the accident, and we sincerely hope that he will recover soon."
Amon Amarth

"I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Vitek and the rest of the DECAPITATED boys on a number of occasions.  His drumming skills spoke volumes, he was an incredible talent and one can only guess as to what greatness was in store for him and his future endeavors, this is very saddening to hear and it must be exponentially worse in Poland since they really are the pride of their home country. My condolences go out to his band mates, his friends, loved ones, family and especially his brother Vogg."
- Raymond I. Herrera and FEAR FACTORY

"Vitek was an unreal drummer. Someone who I really respected. Even though we never met, from friends we both knew, we had a mutual respect for each other. The world has lost a musical genius. He will be sorely missed and my thoughts, condolences and feelings go out to his immediate family, bandmates and friends. I am happy to have him in my life, for I have been inspired. RIP bro."
Joey Jordison (Slipknot)

"Known from such bands as DECAPITATED, DIES IRAE, PANZER X... 23-year old, extremely talented drummer, our brother in metal and dear friend passed away... This is another huge loss for the metal scene and the saddest news we have heard this year... we are all in shock...

VADER members would like to express their deepest condolences to his family and frends. Vitek — R.I.P."
- Vader

Thomas Haake said it best.....Vitek was a true genius of his art

Organic Hallucinosis is a masterpiece and in my opinion probably the greatest and heaviest death metal albums of all time. So much groove....and its all thanks to the power house drums driving the rest of the intruments. Im sure they all had there part in setting the heavy grooves but you know what Im saying. The drummer has to come to play on recording day or the bands integrity will really suffer. VITEK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember it was my bands first U.S. tour ever and Decapitated was touring with us. It was their very first time to tour the U.S also. Both bands very young and eager to see what awaits them for the next 2 months. With these things in common it was very easy to form a brotherly bond between the 2 bands. Decapitated would play directly after us everynight on this tour and Vitek would use my drums for his set. Although there was a little language barrier, Vitek and I got along great. Everyday on that tour was somthing new and exciting for all of us. So many great memories that I will never forget. Vitek was great drummer, truley one of a kind. It was an honor to share the stage with him and the rest in Decapitated. That tour and all the guys in Decapitated made a big impact on my life and showed me the true meaning of friends. Vitek you will be missed as a friend and as a fellow metal drummer. My deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of both Vitek and Covan. I wish Covan a speedy and full recovery.

We're a death metal band form Spain called Demised and all the members are very sad for this very very sad tragedy... I talked in the past with Vitek in her tour around Spain with Vader and Krisiun because i'm very fan of Decapitated and more fan of her talent with her very young ages... it's a very hard lost for the metal scene. We're very sad and give our condolences to the family and the rest of the band... Be strong Covan!

i have great respect for anders jakobson from nasum now. being able to say that he might not have liked the band but truly respected vitek as a person and as a talented drummer shows how good of a person he is. it is very admirable to hear that from him. not many people can hear a band they dont like and still respect the musicians in the band. but alas, vitek will truly be missed as a person and as a musician. it is sad to lose sumone at such a young age. you will never be forgotten. RIP Vitek.

i saw decapitated 5 times, and every time i went i used to chat with Covan n Vitek for ages. they'd always get me a signed setlist :D both such nice guys! Covan got me on the guest list at a Birmingham gig. me and a friend traveled about 100 miles just to see them. it was definitely worth it!

i remember talking to vitek for ages about meshuggah! a really down to earth kind of guy.

sadly i never got a pic of me and him, i forgot my camera every show, cos im a dumb ass :(

i hope this isnt the end for DECAPITATED

may Viteks soul rest in piece, maybe even jamming with Dime right now ^_^

love you guys xxxxxx

Heart-felt condolences from every one of us in Mephisto.

We all love every Decapitated disc. The drumming of Vitek is worshiped in our band. We will miss him dearly. This is a crushing blow to all of us who were looking to the future of his music and abilities with excitement and great anticipation. He accomplished in such a short time what many drummers could not do given 30 years. Our best wishes go out to Covan. We hope you get well soon. We are ready to donate as much as we can when the donations are set up on the site.

On behalf of Mephisto,

I attended the Behmoth show in Denver, Colorado. The crowd made sure that Behemoth put on the best metal show in honor of Witold. All of the bands that played that night played in honor of Witold. A friend of mine and an inspiration, he will truly be missed.

On behalf of the MONTREAL scene in Quebec province, Canada. As a ex-member of NEURAXIS who met DECAPITATED in late 2005 on the band's first appearance on Canadian soil, I would like to express my deepest condoleance to the whole family but especially to Vassek(Vogg) and the band plus ex-members that must be terribly in shock of Witold's premature death. It wasn't the time for him to go, especially at the age of 23 and at the peakest moment of his talent. All the scene overhere is in mourning, last friday at the TROIS-RIVIERES METALFEST VII, NEURAXIS honnored Vitek with a minute of chaos with the crowd. Everybody is sad of this tragedy and we all wish to Adrian to recover as well.

We were expecting to see the band on dec 5th with Amon Amarth. We will do something special in memory of Vitek, count on us! He won't be forgotten, he will remain a extraordinairy drummer and a friend.

- Steven Henry, from Empathy Denied/Urban Aliens/Idiotpathetics/ex-Neuraxis but also as a friend.

Vitek wasnt an average drummer. He was something else. Extremely talented and creative. His speed and control of this kit, amazing. The brutality of his art. So fucking heavy.

I met him once, outside the Decapitated gig in Nottingham last year. I was so happy to be able to tell him that day how much I appreciated his drumming and how awesome he is on the kit.

To hear that the man responsible for making me appreciate extreme metal drumming so much is gone... it's hard to believe.

Heal fast Covan.

RIP Vitek. We will never ever forget you.

One Dreadful Sound.

I remember when Decapitated played in the US, in Albany with Beneath the massacre, cephalic carnage and a crap load of other bands (some who didn't make it because of passport problems or something along those lines). Me and some friends went backstage and smoked with some of the guys from the bands had already been on and then, as we were passing the bowl of merriment, I heard Decapitated for the first time, plowing away at "Spheres of madness". I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I rushed the guys to finish the bowl so we could run back inside. Without even thinking about it, I rushed into the pit and lost myself. That is the impact of Decapitated's music and THAT is the impact of Vitek's drumming. It awakened this primal urge, this freedom from social norms to the point where one was given over completely to the chaos of the moment.

The world of drumming has lost a powerful entity. Take care in the world beyond, Vitek!

I already put this statement on the Soilwork blog SOILWORKS COMMENTS ON VITEK’s (DECAPITATED) PASSING but I'dliketo mention it over here too:

"I think I speak on behalf of a lot of fans that are in mourning for Vitek who depart this life before his time. It was a shocking report that one of the greatest extreme metal drummers died in unfortunate circumstances. My sincerest condolences to Viteks family and friends, and to the band.

I also wish that Covan will recover soon!!!

That tragic occurrence reminded me immediately of the appalling accident of Metallica in the year 1986 when the Metal world lost Cliff Burton who also died before his time!!! Therefore I hope that Decapitated won't lose faith and make the best out of it! Although it's hard I think time heals all wounds!!!

R.I.P. VITEK!!!

We will miss you!!! ;-("

METAL CAMP 2006: I saw DECAPITATED live on stage but I also had the luck to meet the guys!!! Unfortunately I only got a short impression of you guys but that impression was great!!!

Also wanted to see you this year in Vienna and Munich on 11th and 13th March but it was impossible for me to get there!!! ;-( - Hope that you all will recover soon from the shock!!!

SEE YOU ON THE ROAD!!!

I have to agree with you so strongly! 'Day 69' was like a personal showcase for Vitek's skills, as far as I'm concerned!

Also, the consistency of the double-bass on 'Spheres of Madness' is disgustingly mind-blowing!

Not many of us were actually personal friends with Vitek, but we all feel like we've lost a brother!

Horns Up!

I am still in a truly sad state of shock... My heart goes out to Vitek's wife and child. Metal and GREAT music in general has suffered a great loss.

it was a saddest news to hear that great drummer Vitek passed away, I read a forwarded text message from a friend about his death and shocked about it. for an elite Death Metal band from Philippines and to every DM bands in the world, DECAPITATED is very much inspiring! let us share our sadness and Condolences to the Family and friends of Witold 'Vitek' Kieltyka! R.I.P. Vitek!
