This past Friday, in a very fitting way, six local metal bands played a show at the Living Room.  There were some newer bands, young and full of hopeful optimism, and some scene veterans, doing what they love as they have hundreds of times before on that stage.   It was the kind of show that kept the doors of that club open for the last fifteen years, and it was the last show.

Randy always said the reason he loved musicians so much and why he kept the doors of the club open when logic and reason both probably dictated otherwise, is because musicians are the last great dreamers of the world.   Randy felt it was a dream worth getting behind and he did so with a contagious optimism.  The dreams of countless musicians were given a home inside The Living Room, and the scene flourished within its doors.   From the hard working veterans of the local scene, to the touring acts, to the teenagers playing their first show on a Monday night in front of their girlfriends and parents, Randy made everyone feel welcome.  He always encouraged and supported the bands and his employees in any way he could.

The current staff of The Living Room has taken an enormous amount of pride and put a lot of hard work into keeping Randy's dream alive.  It is with heavy hearts and for reasons outside of our control that we will be unable to continue hosting shows at The Living Room.  We sincerely apologize to any bands with shows booked that will not be able to take place.  Please look for further announcements about shows that are being moved to other venues.  We would also like to thank every single person that ever performed, drank, fought, danced, puked, sang along, worked or dared to dream within the walls of that club, or the two locations that preceded it.

What the future holds is still uncertain, maybe a new location and a new set of dreams.  But in the mean time, if you see Papa Joe or Little Pete, any member of the Hien family, DJ Venom, Max Creek,  or any of the people or bands that made The Living Room what it was to you over the course of the last thirty years, say thanks.  A lot of blood, sweat and tears were shed on that stage and in that room, let's not forget why and who made it possible for us all to live the dream.

What dreams may come…

Aaron Jaehnig and Gregory Rourke

I'm so sad to hear this! When I was 18, Randy was the first person to book me and my music at a night club. I always felt at home at The Room and have heard and seen some of the best live music there. I wish Charley, Aaron, Greg, and the rest of the Room family the best of luck. I believe Charley still has a painting of my old band, Fat Thomas, in his basement :-) Best wishes with everything that you go on to do. I will truly miss the The Living Room.
Peace, Katie

tragic really...
sorry this had to happen whatever the reason was.

this place will never be forgotten and played a huge part in all of our musicianship, we wouldnt be close to what we are today if it wasnt for the living room. I hope that if its what you guys want then you will be able to get another club together a.s.a.p. and keep countless scenes alive before they breathe their last breath.

RIP

A very sad day for the Providence music scene... We love this place, and always will. It was always a good time playing on this stage or viewing from the crowd. There will never be another place that compares to it. Many dreams were made on that stage. Unfortunatley our show Friday was the last show of The Living Room's many years, but it was a great honor that we were able, for one last time on that stage, to do what we enjoy.
Thank you to all at The Living Room for many years of hopes and dreams, and THANK YOU Randy! The spirit of The Living Room will always live within us!

You have done more for this little state than most can imagine. The absence of The Living Room will most certainly leave a void in the music community in Providence, in Rhode Island and in greater New England, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

If the Living Room can relocate once, it can do it twice. Who knows, maybe the next incarnation will somehow be better than what remains on Rathbone St.

Like A Bastard (2 NEW songs up)

Very, Very sad day today.... More and more venues are closing giving bands less places to play at and spread their messeges. We have shed alot of sweat on that stage and will greatly miss all the good times we had there. Many memories, many memorable shows.

I've been going to the Living Room since the first time it opened on Westminster St. across the street from the original Lupo's. Used to bounce back and forth between the two. I've seen national acts there, local bands ther and my son's band play there several times. What a loss....

i grew up in this place pretty much. From the time i was like 15 i went to the living room both to perform and to see bands on the rise. i was there all the time, and when i would come home from school NY i would end up there many times on my first night back.

Im gonna miss this place. Today is a sad day for Providence.
