Friend --

I have some important news, and I'm pleased to share it with you first.

I've chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.

Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.

I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change.

Please let Joe know that you're glad he's part of our team. Share your personal welcome note and we'll make sure he gets it:

http://my.barackobama.com/welcomejoe

Thanks for your support,

Barack

P.S. -- Make sure to turn on your TV at 2:00 p.m. Central Time to join us or watch online at http://www.BarackObama.com.

If you think raising the minimum wage will help you you are mistaken.

Florida voted in the hiked up minimum wage and all it did was drive the price of everything up to cover the labor expense.

If you want to make more money get a better job. There are jobs out there, unless you live in a state like Michigan, where jobs are few and far between and usually they are seasonal at best.

Raising your wage won't help you. It only helps those who are currently able to afford the cost of living. Raising minimum wages only crushes those who are too poor to cover their bills now, by raising the cost of living to match the new flow of money.

The best way to get into a better situation is get up, and go look for better work. You aren't qualified you say? Then go back to school. There are millions of dollars that are out there for people to go back to school and get a better life for themselves. There IS some form of government aid program that you qualify for. You can't tell me you don't. There is something out there to help you pay for it so the expense doesn't come out of your pocket.

The major problem today with people in America is that they want to the government to hand them more money and take less of what they make. Guess what? THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN... THE SYSTEM ISN'T SET UP THAT WAY. The only way to make more money and afford to live the life you want to live is to finally take responsibility for yourselves and stop driving yourself into debt by living beyond your ACTUAL means.

Ask for help with your finances and stop wasting your money on the things you think you HAVE to have like a Starbucks Coffee and that 12 pack of Budweiser... Those Marlboro's and Kool's too will suck your pocket dry with the hefty taxes that go to the government whenever you buy them.

I am not saying that everyone spends money on coffee and cigarettes and beer, but there IS a luxury in your life, EVERYONE has one, according to an Oprah show devoted to finances and how to handle them, that they are spending money they don't have to spend in the first place. Stop wasting money on your luxury... and figure out how to pay your bills without falling into debt.

All I am trying to get at here is that asking Barrack Obama to get you a raise is ridiculous. The President of the country will have more important things to do than wonder how much a person makes when they are above minimum wage already.

Now... the President should be concerned with the number of people who are above minimum wage already and still can't make ends meet. There should be things that are done to alleviate the stress on working families who can't seem to crawl out of debt. My family has three incomes in the house, and we are barely making it by, but we are working hard to right the debt we have created for ourselves.

I make 10.00 an hour at Burger King... it is possible to make what you need to get by... you just have to work for it, and apparently struggle to get by. Hopefully, whoever wins the elections this year will help to figure out why there is SO MUCH STRUGGLE INVOLVED, but raising your wages for doing the same job you already do is not the answer. That will only increase the cost of living.

Mr. Right, I am very sorry to tell you your are incorrect with your assumption.

The cost of living, higher prices for goods and services has to be realized.

In order to get a minimum wage job today, you have had to go to some school to learn procedures to perform the job. Some people have gone to college and cannot get what you call a "better job." (some can't get a job "over-qualified").

Raises and equal pay for equal work has always been an American ideal. Back in the day you had better give enough eggs for the flour you receive from the general store. (The Barter System).

Taxes are definitely necessary NOW, due to the Bush Administration's lavish and unnecessary spending.

If we had not allowed the theft of the Presidency, when Bush and the Republican insiders stole the position; we would be set today to give raises and higher wages.

I pray we have seen the light and realize this will never do.

Barack and Joe have a mountain to climb after we all finish fighting about who his pastor was, or how much experience at being President he has.

All the fine minds that will surround him and Joe in this endeavour, he don't need experience: He had the heart to even consider running for the office knowing how hard it will be to correct this mess; but they are ready and willing to try.

So....raise taxes, raise wages (when our jobs come back), and raise the American awareness.

What - you never asked for a well deserved pay raise at your job? It would be insane to think everyone had to get a new job every time they needed or deserved more for the work they do, yet this is what you suggest. Somehow you think it is only the poor who don't deserve this consideration and only to keep YOUR prices low. Typical right wing selfishness that's left us in debt up to our eyeballs and scrambling for crumbs while the few get fat and complain incessantly about their right to feel superior.
Grow up!

You are right, the answer isn't raising the minimum wage. There is no one single answer, there are many questions to this topic, and there is not one cure all answer. Senator Obama gives us the best chance to get our economy back on track. Most, but not all conservatives, do not want a change in the current system, because if they did, something would have changed by now. Those people blinded by McCain's "Dumb it Down" Campaign is completely laughable. Smear tactics only work on the weak minded, and guess what... there's a lot of people who need help to understand the actual state of our country.

Quit being blinded by ONE topic. Look at everything. Quit being simple minded and open your eyes America. Voting for someone because your "party" has a candidate is the "old way of thinking". It's the weak minded way of thinking.

Go and look at their congressional voting record, some things you'll like, some you won't. But that's what it's all about, there is more than one issue our country has, and NO ONE can be your perfect candidate. NO ONE.

Helping poorer Americans earn a decent hourly wage is NOT what causes a rise in the cost of living for everyone. Mismanagement and corruption at the top are what causes it. Why do people continually blame the poor for the country's problems? They aren't the ones in charge. They aren't the ones who make the decisions.

To Mr. Right.

I hope you are not suggesting that Americans all give up their luxuries and just live and work to pay Bills. That is a boring and frustrating life.

I think cutting taxes is the best idea. Americans get their income taxed. We get taxed at the store with a sales tax. We pay property taxes, inheritance tax. If you win a prize they tax that. Then when you retire you have to pay taxes on your retirement.

It is only right that people want a return on the money they give the Government. If we can send millions over-seas we certainly can do something for he poor and needy in this country.

Maybe you shouldn't Judge until you walk a mile in their shoes. I know some good hard working people who are struggling to make it.

I agree whole heartedly. But we've sent trillions over seas my dear woman. It's a travesty. Sadly, what is boils down to is that Americans, politicians and voters alike, have lost all form of common sense. If you don't have money to spend because you owe money, then don't spend it. I agree with the ma on that point. But we should not be paying, and by we I mean the middle class, upwards of 50% of everything we make to the government when the vast majority of it is not used on economic or technological progress (even on education...) but upon foreign affairs we should have already settled.

I agree with you. I have a serious debt. I can never pay our bills on time. I get paid every two weeks and it just seems the due dates for our bills are in the opposite weeks! I get paid $9.00 an hour at Burger King. My husband gets $7.50 at a mom and pop restaurant. We also have two kids. Trying to raise them and pay for bills, school, school supplies is hard. Kids these days have it good really! When I was 15, 16, 17 I made $5.15 and hour because that was the minimum wage in the 90's. We at our Burger King just had to give over half of our employees raises because the minimum wage went up to $6.55!! It just doesn't seem fair.

I have to work my butt off just to get a .25 cent raise. And the kids get almost .75 cents by default just because the min. wage went up, again.

I would like to go back to school, but like you said I have excuses. I have 2 kids, a full time job and my husband and I work opposite shifts, and we cannot afford daycare. There are possibilities out there, but I want to get ourselves out of debt and ahead of the game before I tack on student loans and such to our debt.

GO OBAMA!
PS>I also just want to say, A little while ago, I was verbally attacked by a regular customer because I had mentioned Barack Obama in a statement to one of my employees. And beacuse I like his views and what he wants to do with this country, I stuck up for him. Ya know when all that stuff was said about Obama being muslim and all, I went straight home and did a search online. Found a clip on YouTube where Obama explained his background, and I posted it on my myspace page.

I feel that if someone has an opinion, by no means does that mean they should be attacked in any way, shape or form.
I WILL VOTE FOR YOU ALL THE WAY!!!!

I was a single mother with a 4 yr son back in 1985 the "Reagan years" I lost my great paying job and had to go on welfare.

I didn't even have a GED, Welfare didn't even want me to get that let alone the schooling I went throught to become a dental assistant.

With no help from them and a student loan , I got my GED and put myself through school and cleaned houses for child care.

I agree get off your butts and make something of yourself. I have been doing what i went to school for for 23 yrs now and paying taxes, I have bought and sold homes and raised my son.

It was hard but living a life that is constantly complaining about "why me" is BS.

Let's change this country and let's change our way of thinking.

GOD BLESS AMERICA and all who live in it.

I think in his heart Barack wanted to choose Tim Kaine, but Biden is the better choice strategically. Biden appeals to a lot of the same voters as Hillary would have -- working class whites and voters over the age of 50 -- but he doesn't have her high negatives (i.e. Biden doesn't antagonize the entire Republican party and many independents). In addition, Biden has unimpeachable national security and foreign policy credentials.

The best counter-argument McCain can come up with against Biden is to deploy a handful of quotes by Biden criticizing Obama during the primary. But I don't think that will be a big deal: Obama supporters already believe he has the judgment to lead, and undecideds will feel reassured now that Biden is on the ticket. In fact, when questioned about his previous criticism of Obama, Biden (with his characteristic smile and blunt demeanor) might well respond, "I believed and continue to believe that Obama alone does not have the foreign policy experience to be President. But that's why I asked to join this ticket. Together, we'll make it happen.
" Besides, when McCain selects Romney as his running mate, we will have tons of anti-McCain gems to pull from the Romney playbook. :) McCain-Romney will have a lot of tough strategizing to do .... at one of McCain's seven houses, I mean.

the current republican regime of fear, godless greed, and blind ignorance is drawing to a close.

hope and change re-lights the horizon of a fuller and brighter tomorrow. lower gas prices, and end to war, a better economy. i have always wished for this. for 8 years, the USA has suffered under the harsh dreams of a man barely qualified to cut brush, let alone lead a country. no more i say! no more. soon, two men of true honor, quality, and dignity will be ascending to the highest office in the nation and fall into the role that has been effecively empty for 8 years.
with the help of the nation and the help of the people that work to form its more perfect union, those men will not be john mcain and whatever other vampire he will soon appoint to help him raise his withered right hand, but the real deal, Barack Obama and Joe Biden! count on my vote in november guys!
