Hey!
I'm happy to report I'm finding little bits of time on set in between takes to write you. Today we woke up in Torreon, a pretty big city in Mexico, at about 4:30am. We drove an hour to set, just outside Dunas de Bilbao. Our location is, what I can only describe as, a sand dune desert. I've been riding the motorcycle in 4-foot sand drifts since sunrise to get the shot just right. The wonderful, kind and talented Chow Yun Fat is hanging on for dear life in back. We've been doing about 40mph, and over bumpy sand dunes that is enough to make anyone a little queasey. Chow is so kind, so calm and a bit of a prankster (which I love!) and he hasn't complained once. The sand is pretty deep here, and we've had to dig the bike out a few times when it has stalled in the drifts, but the crew and stunt guys and girls are so helpful.

I was surprised to see a lot of rabbits out here. Yes, rabbits in the desert. Tall ones, 3-feet when they stand up on their hind legs. They tend to keep a distance, as I don't think they have many Hollywood crews visiting them often. ? But it got me wondering what they might eat out here in this dry sandy desert, which prompted a Google search for "rabbits in Mexico desert". (By the way, I should mention I am a big Googler (is that a word?). It's so informative and -- usually -- trustworthy.) I found out that out here in the desert, the rabbits eat twigs, seeds and branches off the desert trees. However, I did feel a little sorry for them, as the desert trees don't look very appetizing at all. I got a plate from catering of lettuce, greens, and chayote and left it out for them.

I suppose I should mention I had a pet rabbit for a week when I was 6. I was the lucky one (when my name was chosen out of the hat) in school to take the class pet rabbit home for a week. Mom was not too thrilled to have "Peter Rabbit" running around our apartment. Even I will admit Peter was pretty messy, but I really loved little Peter Rabbit, and I named him after the great children's book written by Beatrix Potter. Did you read that book growing up? It was one of my favorites.

Back to set, I'm really enjoying getting to know Joon Park. I'm not allowed to spill any secrets, but our characters interact a lot in the film. If you don't know a lot about Joon, in addition to being an actor, he has a massively successful band in Korea (he writes a lot of the music) and is also a great dancer. Not only is Joon very cute and extremely charming, he's gracious and very down to Earth. We've been trading music, giving each other some of our favorite stuff – he happens to love classic rock. Because everyone's taste in music is so personal, I've found music a very good way to get to know someone. (It's something I started doing with Gerard Butler when we were shooting "Phantom of the Opera" in London. He loves Ennio Morricone. In fact, during the filming Gerry and I went to see the great composer in concert at Royal Albert Hall. It's really something special if you ever get the chance to see him live.)

Anyway, we are almost ready to shoot again so I should go. Have a great day!

Much love from the sand dunes,

Emmy

It sounds like a vacation sort of which has to be relaxing when its actually work, lol. Everyone still talks about the gemmy chemistry, a lot of people credit the films success and performances because there was such a profound understanding in reallife. its hard to be comfy if you're not clse. Cant wait for you guys to make another move together. Good luck!

so it's my first comment! and I'm first to comment! woo! if that makes sense...

I'm very interested to see Dragonball as the movie, seeing as I watched the show as a kid and a little past then (I'm an anime fan. :P )

I would love to go to Mexico sometime soon, and the filming all sounds so much fun.

You're riding a motorcycle and a whole bunch of other crazy things-- I'm just so excited to see this movie. I just have one question though... do you have blue hair for the movie? I'm a fan of Bulma (she's a personal favourite character out of any anime really) and I just think the blue hair completes the look. So could you tell your fans that at least? Yay or Nay to the blue hair? :P

And in response to your last journal on edgier music, I suggest Nightwish. They're metal, and possibly a little heavier than what you're looking for, but they have a great sound. =) they even did a cover of Phantom of the Opera! Skindred has a myspace here, they're great reggae/rock crossover. :)

hope you're having fun in the sand and sun!
Best wishes from snowy Canada!

Nice to hear all is well, and glad you're having a good time. :) Those are some serious rabbits! The trees may not look very appetizing, but I guess the rabbits are eating well if they got that big, LOL...

Damn i'd give anything to get to be filming like you are. Even if its in the sand dunes. Ive only had one experience filming for a movie. I was an extra in a fairly recently made movie, "Reservation Road". Sadly, all of the shots i was in (i got to walk right by the camera in one shot! Doesnt sound very exciting to someone so awesome as yourself is in movies for a living, but to me it was so COOL! hahaha :D ) got cut out :.. But it's just a start. And how many simple people such as myself get to say they got to film for a real major motion picture? ^_^

I am addicted to Google. If i need a weird question answered, the first thing i think of is Google :D hehe. It's a real life saver!

Ive actually never read Peter Rabbit, which is pretty sad, but i read a TON of other books as a child. Have you ever read "The Giving Tree"? If you havent, you really should. It would make me cry all the time when i was a kid. Its so sad, but deffinetly worth any tears shed.

You're lucky. You got to not only film with Gerry but hang out with him alot. That must be so cool. I mean i realize he's pretty much just a normal guy and you're friend, but to me itd be like meeting Buddah hahaha. It'd change my life cuz he just plain rocks my world. It was great that you got to hang out off the set too, cuz it allowed you both to bond well on the screen and really portray the emotions of the characters very well.

Ive never really liked the whole Dragonball cartoon or anything like that, but I'm deffinetly willing to give the movie a chance when it comes out. I'll be one of the first in line to see it.

Good luck filming more of the movie! Have a great day Emmy :]

~Kim ♥

I know the area you’re talking about. My class traveled through there when we went on a 2 week long trip throughout Mexico. I distinctly remember the rabbits because my friend Zon and I would chase them in some misguided attempt to capture one and make it a pet, we were 13 at the time critical thinking skills weren’t our best quality.

Enjoy the beautiful sites and I hope you get a break from the gritty taste of sand getting in your food.

Emmy, you are googlicious!! Google is such a great way to cheat on crossword puzzles. Not that I cheat or anything...

If those desert rabbits ever get out of hand, just shoot them with a squirt gun. That's what the vet told us, at least. Except it didn't work with Bunnie. He just kept chewing the carpet. Poor rug :(

Wasn't Peter Rabbit the story where Peter got his coat stuck on the fence while running away from Mr. Macgregor and got in trouble from his mom? That was an awesome story, it ranks up there with the Pokey Little Puppy (who didn't get any rice pudding) and Little Bunny Fufu (scooping up the field mice and bopping them on the head). We used to have a neighbor who had a bunny who always got out of it's cage and we'd spend half hour catching it to return it to them. It's funny that you said you use google so much, I also use it to find any information I'm curious about. I hate not knowing an answer to something, that if any question ever pops into my head I have to look it up to find out the answer. I can't imagine how people lived without the internet, it's very useful.

Hope all is well,

Josh

Glad to hear you're having so much fun on set! I can't imagine Chow Yun Fat a prankster, but I'll take your word for it. =] 4:30 in the morning? That's crazy, but it's one of those things where you say "I've got to do what I've got to do." Do you think you'll end up actually buying a motorcycle after filming wraps? Seems like you're having a great time on set.

Interesting that there are rabbits down there. I don't think I saw a rabbit when I was in Cancun, but that might be because it's not really open desert. Beautrix Potter rocks! And I love Peter Rabbit! It was one of my favorite books when I was younger. That was so nice of you to leave the rabbits treats. Do you know if they ate it? I assume they'd think it was odd, considering that they problably hardly ever see, let alone eat, those types of veggies in the desert.

I loved you & Gerry in POTO. You guys had such a great chemistry on and off (as it seems) screen.

xoxo

I think that you should suggest a new movie. Picture this - Chow Yun Fat and Gerard Butler are rivals for leadership of a mexican motorcycle gang. They have numerous race/fights through the mexican sand dunes. You are Chow Yun Fat's younger sister, and the love interest of Gerard Butler. Theme music scored by Ben Folds. What do ya think?

Hi Emmy! I'm sorry to say, I don't even know what movie you're shooting, but it sounds great! I love Chow Yun-fat, ever since I saw Hard Boiled. I didn't know they had rabbits in the Mexico desert, but I knew they have them in the California desert, so I guess it stands to reason. I had a bunny once. I wanted to give it a boy name but everyone else insisted it was a girl, so it got a girl's name. The one day it humped the neighbor's bunny. I was vindicated! I love Ennio Morricone too; I hope to get to see him one day! Well, have fun in the sand!

I am such a skeptic. Haha. My sister is probably the biggest book of what is the need to know of "Hollywood" these days. I can only keep up with whom is in the mainstream, but she was able to find a little bit of info on this movie you're doing. I thought it was pretty interesting, although you do resemble that character quite well--I guess from earlier performances I never pictured you in this scene. It is wonderful to step outside yourself every now and then and do something new, and I think you will do quite well. So therefore, I guess I am no longer a skeptic and you really truly are doing this movie! Hahaha.

You're lucky you even had the chance to take a REAL life animal home. Haha, the most exciting thing for me was to take home the stuffed parrot I called "Paulie" and parade around with it. Although, the affection for that bird allowed me to have three REAL birds of my own. Not so bad I guess--but rabbits are cuter.

Music defiantly gets into everyone's inner self because it is very expressive, even if they are just the listener. Lyrics are the soul, are they not? I would happily think so...and you'd be surprised to how many outgoing people I know, who really listen to more ambiance than anything. Quite ironic.

Wow--whoa! I've CLEARLY written too much, but thats what happens when you are caffiene induced...for me anyway. Hope all continues to go well!

Come And Join The Masquerade

I knew rabbits lived in the desert, but only because when my Husband and I travelled from California to the East Coast, we saw them on the side of the road all the time, on their hind legs even ... and those in the Mojave Desert are pretty big too!

On your last blog, you mentioned New Hampshire ... that's where we live, so I can imagine the scenery you've got. There are times when I miss California, but nothing beats the scenery here. Plus you get to see the seasons, and what beautiful seasons they are.

I didn't know Gerry liked Ennio ... so do I! In fact, there's a Phantom of the Opera piece that Ennio did. It's very eery yet beautiful at the same time. Don't know if they did that at the concert, but I would hope so.

I'm so grateful you take the time to write to your fans. It makes it easier to love you!

I don't know what's more impressive. Your beautiful voice, your entire album from 1-12 (itunes version ;-)), your acting skills, or the fact that you're able to write blogs riding in helicopters and sitting in sand dunes. That last one my friend is pretty impressive. By the way, if we're gonna trade music you should listen to Kate Nash's "Nicest Thing". Absolutely beautiful. Also Emmy Rossum's "Lullaby" best song ever, you should check her out, she's kinda good ;-) have fun filming!

I love Ennio Morricone, I so glad he was finally recognized last year.... I know it's a little odd, but I used different tracks of his from different movies and made a mixed CD/soundtrack for a book series I was reading :) he really can capture a lot with his music!!!
it's awseome you go to see him live.

Those helicopter pic look really awesome. My dad went up in a helicopter during a tornado for a new crew, LOL, it made his day, although his wife wasn't too trilled ;)

Hey Emmy! Thanks for the great blogs! Keep em coming!

You know, last year, the word "Google" actually WAS added to the dictionary. I'm not sure if "googler" will be...lol. But Google definitely made it. I use google constantly and my fiance makes fun of me for it. I always tell people to "google it."

I've been to Mexico once, and it was great. I wasn't in the desert or getting to ride around on sand dunes, but that sounds exciting. Its great to get to travel to new places and see things not many people have the chance to.

And you are DEFINITELY lucky to have filmed with Gerry Butler. I had the amazing opportunity to meet him while he was filming "The Game of Their Lives" in Saint Louis. What an amazing person. I hate to hear when people talk badly about actors, especially when they're regular people, who work to pay rent just like everyone else. Music is a great way to bond with people....

Anyways, I love your work and every single thing that you're in, you do an amazing job at. So keep up the great work Emmy!

It's great that you get to both work and do a bit of sightseeing at the same time. It's just too bad you have to do so at such an ungodly early hour. Haha!

I'm sure the bunnies really appreciated their little treat. I've never had a pet rabbit, but once owned a guinea pig who kept squealing for food everytime we opened the refrigerator door. He was a little glutton that one. lol!

I always love to hear about you and Gerard Butler. You were one of the best onscreen couples of all time.

Seems like you're having a wonderful time over there in the sand dunes!

I'm also a "rabbit-fan". I've had two rabbits as pets. My first didn't live very long because of disease. My second rabbit unfortunately died two years ago, though from old age.

I belive my mother read the book to me when I was little. I love the drawings. I remember I had lots of stickers on the different animals(mostly on the rabbits).

Ennio Morricone is a great composer! Gerard Butler has really good taste!;)

I know I'm a little late with my answer, but keep up the great work! Can't wait to see the final result.

If "google" is a word, then the words derived from it should be too: "googling", "googled", "googler" etc. If it isn't a word it shoud be!
