Hey guys!

The east coast is gorgeous and blooming right now in springtime and it was great to be home for the week. New York is the ultimate city where art, glamour, culture and compassion come together in a really unique way... but maybe I'm somewhat partial to NYC as its my hometown!! :) Nonetheless, it never loses its energy and beauty. If you haven't ever been to "the big apple", try to go in the last week in April or the first week in May when the tulips line Park Avenue and the cherry blossoms are out in full force in Central Park... and everyone just seems happy. There is a Jasper Johns show now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that is pretty cool, as well as the Costume Institute Heroes exhibit this month--both definitely worth seeing.

Last night, I got to honor my friend, Carmen Marc Valvo, at the Pratt institute of Design. Carmen is an incredible designer as well as a terrifically brave man and cancer survivor. It was wonderful to be able to salute him for his many successes.

The reason it was so touching for me to give Carmen this award is because cancer has also struck my family this year and I have seen first hand how people come together and show the utmost love, compassion and determination to fight this disease . I am revved up about being proactive about health protection and early detection and I am looking forward to a new outreach program for early detection that I will be spearheading starting this summer. Together we can beat this... More on that soon...

Actually after a wonderful time in New York, I am on the road again (two new pics in the gallery of me "on the road again") and on location to shoot a new film and should be pretty busy full time with that for about a month. I'm pretty excited about starting a new film, one in which I have great respect for the director and writer who are quite young. It is exciting to work on a project with emerging new talents and a young cast of fine actors. Sometimes I wish I could say more about my films before or while they are being made, but I can't. It is always the prerogative of the filmmakers to decide when and how much information to release about a movie no matter how much an actor is enthusiastic and eager to share their own excitement. So I am off to work. I love traveling and getting to see new cities I don't know very well. (Somehow, it reminds me of scavenger hunts I went on as a kid!) So, I'll let you know when i find the best cheese steak!

Much love always....

Emmy

PS: Check out the Roman Polanski documentary on HBO called "Wanted and Desired" when it airs June 9th as I saw a preview and its really interesting--especially if you are a fan of Polanski's films, as I am. I love the Rosemary's Baby "la la la la" theme song. Haunting.

Oh, Emmy, I am so sorry to hear about cancer haunting your family. I have lost my Mom & a younger sister to that disease...as well as an uncle. It's horrific. Your family is in my prayers. Awesome that you're supporting cancer charities.

I'm very excited about your new movie btw. I hope it'll be a great, artistic success.

Take care of yourself and always remain your adorable self!

Keep your chin up, Em. And tell the relative to do so too. I was treated for a particularly aggressive form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma 15 years ago--and I am still kickin' and partying!

It ain't fun--I won't pretend it was. But it actually was a lot easier than I thought when the dread first hit. In fact, while this may seem trite, it helps (forces) you to grow--both the person with the cancer and the loved ones going through it with 'em.

For what it is worth, at some point, I realized that the stuff that was going on was probably easier for me than for my family! So as I said, "Keep your chin up."

Glad you were back in town. Good luck with the new efforts on the road.

f.

I don't want to start a cheese steak war here..but if you are going to be in Philly shooting, and you're searching for heese steaks, you absolutely must go to Tony Luke's. (Oregon Avenue) Jim's is okay, but I actually performed a blind taste test for some friends last year and we got Tony Luke's, Kim's, Pat's and Geno's steaks.

Tony Luke's won hands down!! Just so you know :)

Have a great time in the city of brotherly love.

I know how it is with cancer in the family. The past few years have been really rough for my family. My moto that I always live by is to always think positive and never think the worst as my family has gotten in the habit of doing. I always try to remind them that by thinking the worst the worst is going to happen so why not think positive :-) I think its great about the outreach program. People always need something to look foward to.

With a few brush strokes...

Sorry to hear about the cancer in your family... My mother had breast cancer last year, she is a survivor of it and one of the strongest people I've ever seen first hand... it truly is a horrible disease, and hopefully the person in your family can fight it... my best to them. I to will continue being a part of all kinds of outreach programs, I've done it for about a year now and its worth every second of anyones time...

Have fun with the new film...

I may get to New York for promotional purposes when the new book hits the stands. Time will tell, I would have love to take in a few broadway shows if I get a chance. My heart goes out to anyone who has suffered with cancer or had a family member who died from it. I lost my spouse to cancer several months after we were married so I know how hard it can be, physically and emotionally.

Early detection is the key to fighting cancer, and just because someone has beaten it once don't think that its gone, they always need to be perpared for it to return. Cancer is not something to take lightly.

Its great you are getting involved Emmy.

Be well,

T. L. Ferrell

I'm sorry to hear that cancer has struck your family. My grandfather, also, has recently been diagnosed with cancer. It's been tough on all of us.

Everything else sounds great, though! Central Park sounds beautiful, and a Costume Institute Heroes exhibit?! That's really caught my interest. I need to move to New York someday.

It's nice to see that you always have a positive outlook on life. Take care, Emmy!

Hi Emmy,

New York sounds so wonderful! If I ever visit the states, New York will definately be my first stop!:) My dad's been there severall times through work, and think it's great. He broght home
"I love New York" t-shirts and pens, to me and my sister.
Feels somewhat strange though, that the population of New York is about the same as the population of my country, Sweden.

I'm so sorry to hear your family's been struck with cancer. I've had cancer in my family aswell. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, and also my moms cousin. Tragicly my grandmother past away in cancer last year...
But I agree with you, cancer can be beaten! More and more people survives each day and the science today is so much far gone since for example 10 years ago.
I'm looking forward to know more about the program, thanks for sharing with us.

Fun to hear you're working on a new movie! I understand your excitement and at the same time frustration on not being able to tell anyone about it. I'm patient though, and it seems great by your description.:)

I wish you and your family well, and that you have a great time shooting your new movie!

Take care,

//Caroline, Sweden

(I'm a fan of that song too...really scary)

Hey Emmy. Good luck with all of your new movies and have fun!!

I'm sorry that you have to go through what you're going through(if that even made sense). Whe I was little, I lost my grandpa(We called him "Papa") on my mom's side, not to cancer, he had a heart attack and this past December was really hard on my family. My Grandma(Mom's side again) went into the Hospital, just for a routine surgery, but after that was over, the doctor's checked her the next day and noticed that she'd had a stroke!! When I went in the room she was in, I had to rush right back out because I didn't want her to see me cry. When I got out of her room, I completely broke down and cried like a baby. We're really close(literally- she lives in the house behind us).

Anyway, have fun with your movies and enjoy life to the fullest! =)

"Sometimes I wish I could say more about my films before or while they are being made, but I can't. It is always the prerogative of the filmmakers to decide when and how much information to release about a movie no matter how much an actor is enthusiastic and eager to share their own excitement."

I know we screenwriters and filmmakers are kind of obsessed about stuff like this, perhaps a little too much, and when not really necessary. For instance my biggest concern is when I see a trailer for a film and all the good parts of the majority of the story or plot is in the trailer, its like oh great don't have to go see that movie. Then there are other movies where you see the trailer and think, I want to see more, so I guess its hand in hand and as you said up to the filmmakers, but please do tell when you are allowed to.

Much success on fighting cancer. One person can make a difference, however more than one person can make a bigger difference. Anything I can do, say the word.

On the off chance you actually read this, i just want to let you know that i undertstand your struggles with cancer in the family. My grandmother had breast cancer and my uncle had cancer (not sure what kind) but he got it twice. Personally, i had a tumor when i was 16, and now im 18 worried that I might have cancer. Its hard to cope with but with the love of family by your side anything is beatable. You and your family are in my prayers.
(By the way, have fun with your movie, maybe one day my dreams will come true and get to meet you...)
