I love the rain.
I have always loved the rain, since I was very very young.
I love everything about it.
The way it sounds, the way it dribbles down the window panes, the way it slows everything down.

It's raining today in New York City, and I'm walking down Lexington Avenue, with no umbrella. Bright yellow taxis with their wipers going are silhouetted against the gray concrete of the city. There's something very poetic and peaceful about rain in a city. It somehow unites everyone, as they walk outside, putting their hoods up and their heads down and braving the weather together. It also gives us an excuse to do not much of anything, besides curl up to a cup of tea… which is always nice for a change. Everyone seems to have their own soundtrack, so I turn up my iPod and watch as sneakered toes cross the puddles in the street. I thought I'd let you into what's on my rainy day play list:

The Secret Handshake Costal cities
Lights The Last Thing on Your Mind
One Republic Say (All I Need)
John Mayer Say (from The Bucket List)
Sigur Ros Glosoli
Deathcab I Will Possess Your Heart
Explotions In The Sky First Breath Before Coma
David Gray Be Mine
Leona Lewis Better in Time
Amos Lee Colors

If it's not raining wherever you are, save this for a rainy day, or try turning on the shower for the right background sound effects lol

Xx Emmy

You’re a real New York girl, aren’t you, Emmy? Good; it helps keep your feet on the ground the way Hollywood can’t. You even like walking in the rain, just like any other girl.

Wasn't in town today...but the rain sure screwed with my golf game this morning.

Ahhh, maybe my lack of talent contributed.

Why do I put myself through this?

Why not take up bowling!

Good post, Em! Really great that you are willing to share the real you with us. These little insights into the way you enjoy life are oughta sight. Thanx!

I too love rain. Especially in the springtime. The smell of it, the way the sky looks as it comes falling down... :)

I love Amos Lee. I don't love the rain, but maybe your nice outlook on it will help me start to look at it in a different way. :)

I like listening to oldies music on rainy days -- such as Chicago, the Spinners, the Beatles, other various British Invasion groups, etc.

Also love Steely Dan. Their music just says "rainy day" to me for some reason.

LOL at the turning on the shower thing. I love the rain, though it can be a pain sometimes. It was raining all day today. Peaceful, but made me really drowsy. (I actually feel asleep in one of my classes... oops!) The only thing I really don't like about it is the coldness it brings. Like, right now, I'm freezing and I have a t-shirt, sweatshirt, sweatpants, socks, and two blankets over me, and I'm still cold.

Very poetic post Emmy. I like when people talk (or in your case, type) poetically. It's really sooting and peaceful. Great choice of tunes by the way! The Secret Handshake, Leona Lewis, Sigur Ros, One Republic, David Gray, and John Mayer rocks my socks! =]

Sounds like the perfect rainy day in New York City, I'm in Okinawa, Japan and it rains here all the time. I like to go out and doing things in the rain like play football, and afterward I usually just sit down in the rain and stair at it to see where each individual drop falls.

Hey Emmy,
I agree with you, but my personal favorite is right before it rains. When everything gets quiet and gray and there's big breezes that you could just fly on. I love to sit curled up by my window and just drink it all in (with my tea).
So here's to rainy days!

What a great playlist. Explosions in the Sky is one of my favorite bands. You should check out Mono (the Japanese band) they have a similar post-rock sound. I'm also a big fan of Lights, Sigur Ros, Leona Lewis and John Mayer. And rain is beautiful! Something deeply spiritual and musical about it. We can thank God for that soundtrack.

I also like when it rains too Emmy
My favorite song to listen to iin the rain is "A stranger in Moscow" by Michael Jackson.
Then of course "Slow me down" that's defiantly a rainy song. It feels real good to listen to slow me down while it's raining. You should try it Emmy :)
Anyways your the best.

Wow, you expressed yourself beautifully, Emmy! You're a very poetic soul. Thanks for sharing your rainy days playlist, it gave me some really cool ideas. It's raining at this moment and I'm not really a fan of rain, that's why I also have my rainy days music, to keep me up and smiling. Right now, it's Vast. I just love Vast, their music is like a booster to me, it really is, especially their album "Music for People". *sigh* I'd recommend their song "Free". And the "Meet Joe Black" soundtrack. Perfect!
And I'll definitely use your playlist now! Cheers!

Hi Emmy,

Funny, it seems like it rains everywhere today. Even here in Sweden, I might add.
Though, only a little.
I live more on the countryside, so I don't really get to experience a rainy day in a big city.
But your description was very well done, so it feels like I'm there anyway.;)

Thanks for sharing your rainy day playlist! I'll check them out. I could sure need some relaxing, I just had a spider on me(am really scared of spiders)so I got very chocked.

Thanks again for the tip, and have a continued wonderful rainy day!

//Caroline

Sounds like the start of a great poem
THE RAIN
The sound of rain
dripping down the window pane
the meloncholy of the streetscape's
the glittering light in the drizel
and the sound's of song
I love the rain
the suttle harmony and symphony's
or rain drop's and feet splashing
into puddles and people rustling
threw the street's
a day to huddle for a cuddle
with somebody sweet and tea two
and all the beauty of rainy days
and thought's of beautiful you

Haven't heard those other songs, except for "Say", which gets a loooot of air time on the radio here, but will look the others up;-). Oh, and just about anything by Josh Groban is perfect to listen to on a rainy day:-). Speaking of which, we could reeeeeally use some here, so how 'bout sending me someLOL?! *Hugs!
