I came across a very interesting blog-post the other day on Karanja Gacuca's Blog. Besides the content of the blog-post being interesting, he also came up with a name for the Obama MySpace Mess. He calls it MySpaceGate.

What do you all think about what he wrote?

For those who have accounts over at BarackObama.com, I encourage you to post comments on Karanja's blog-post -- as well as here.

Thanks!

This is very worth reading. I encourage you all to take a look ... and comment on it (here, there, or both).

Thanks!

Lol, I'm always honest ..... now if I beat him to it or not .... I have no idea, I was just referring to the point that it was a obvious fit.  (sneaking off to look at some posts)

I spent about 10 hours today reading all the blogs and comments I could find related to this incident. I think having some information straight from the horse's mouth would be helpful when forming ones opinion. I found this more than helpful personally. I have to say that it was more than sad to see perspective voters on this site berating others that were trying to express their opinions on this unfortunate mishandling of thestyle="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff"> "MySpaceGate" Calling people trolls/plants and the like doesn't shed a very nice light on this subject. I've been a friend on the "Unofficial" Obama myspace page for quite some time and always found that it was handled in a very professional manner. The page was always tagged as an "unofficial" page as far as I knew.

<P>PJ, I think you need to check the settings in your blog section as to why it keeps showing HTML tags in the post.</P><P> </P><P>~another average joe</P>

Papa2Girls,

I posted this bulletin the other day on this issue ....

----------

Date: May 11, 2007 10:56 AM

Subject: There's a software bug in the comment posting mechanism ...

Folks,

I just discovered last night that there's a bug on this comment posting mechanism.

If you try to change the font, or add any formatting at all to the text of your comment, or (sometimes) if you copy/paste your text in from somewhere else, the comment-posting mechanism gets confused and displays the comment text as (barely readable) HTML code -- not as (readable) text.

I found that the ONLY formatting I could add was to make text a link. ANY formatting other than that messes up how the text is displayed.

So, three suggestions for you all ...

(1) Don't use any formatting in your comments except making text into a link.

(2) Before you submit a comment, copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into a regular text document (in NotePad), then SAVE that file on your computer. So, just in case the comment gets messed up when you submit it, you have a back-up copy. If that happens, go ahead and use your backup copy to submit the comment a second time -- but please try to do something different, so it works better the second time around. Then, send me a message to tell me to delete your first comment (but tell me where to find it -- in a blog, on the homepage, etc).

(3) Before you copy/paste any text into a comment, first copy/paste it into a basic text file (in NotePad), save the file, close NotePad, open NotePad back up with the file in it, THEN copy/paste it into your comment. Doing that should clean out all the invisible characters that will show up as (unreadable) HTML code in your comment.

You can do what you want, but I figure if you're going to go to the trouble of writing a comment, you probably want people to be able to read it.

I hope that helps!

PJ

<P>This is my post  from Karanja's outstanding blog.......</P><DIV class=commenttext>I am sure Mr. Obama would be embarrassed to have a supporter such as Norm if he were aware of such a person, which I am sure he is not. I am also sure that Mr. Obama is terribly sorry for what his campaign has done to Joe and all of us that supported the netroots movement that Joe started long before Mr. Obama's intentions were known and is simply afraid to say it. It is possible that no matter the amount of back peddling and stomping on his supporters that he is doing at the behest of his campaign staff that he will get in office and do what he wants to do much like George W. has done and we want him to do what he wants to do.

The problem is this debacle is costing him votes and it will cost him even more votes when it gets down to crunch time and other candidates start slinging mud. I can see the commercials now, "Barack Obama says he is running a grassroots campaign, but what would Joe from MySpace say about that? Two years after a starting a MySpace page in support of Barack, Joe was forced out of his own site and subjected to ruthless public ridicule. How about that?"

For the life of me I can't understand how Barack thinks this is ok and that he will just get away with it. We will keep this alive on MySpace until it is resolved and Joe's very good name is restored and other politians will feast off of this misstep like vultures as well they should. If he has people in his camp that are not aware of how this will adversely effect his campaign then he has a terrible group that one might think is trying to take him down. </DIV><HR class=previewhr><P> </P>

Its only a matter of time untill more net/grass roots organizations realize that Joe is not a villan in this scenario. He did not want the fame, only to help young people like myself with easy access to campaign information and he did just that times 160K. No one has seen Joe on TV, or Newspapers or even online. He refuses to link his face to the issue because he knows its not about him but the hundreds of thousands of people he could have helped Obama reach out to! I have spoken with folks that run numerous news sites personally and they all want to meet the man behind the Myspace ordeal but Joe continues to do the right thing no matter how insulting it is to him and the community he helped build. We should all follow that example and lead, now if we were only issued an official statement of why Obama would resent 160K friends over 39 grand? Makes no sence after calling on "net roots" to build and be heard! Later.

Hey PJ, thanx for the credit and all that stuff, but I have to mention that I remain a staunch Obama supporter and would hate to have anyone use anything I say as some sort of extra ammunition to attack Obama's campiagn in any way. I think we need to follow Joe's example and not make this about us or whatever our views of it all may be. Trust me the GOP and other opponents will do plenty of damage with the debacle and they certainly need no help whatsover from any of us.
