the curious incident of the dog in the night time....
The title itself is enough to draw anyone near this book and from my personal experience i can assure it wouldnt disappoint. The book is written by one mr.mark haddon a brit author. Its a beautiful book written form the perspective of an autistic kid.it gives a wonderful insight into how the thinking or emotions of a autistic kid can be.These kids are really special and they defnitely are differently abled, amazing kids though their brain functions extremely well only in certain areas or subjects and in these areas and subjects these kids excel.
The books takes through the life of one such kid,who is not so emotional or touchy about humans and very fond of and attached to dogs. Most of the time he comes across and cold and lacking in emotions but then there are scenes like when he knows the truth about his mother which do strike a chord in the reader.Awell written and a refreshing new perspective or rather the point of view,we are generally used to the run of the mill point of views, but, this book is different. Its atale of growing and determination.
I primarily picked up the book apart from the title because the reviews and comments said it can be compared "the catcher in the rye" a book i loved immensely....and yes the comparision wasnt in vain.
Its a small book and defnitely doesnt take up too much time and good buy too.a good read.
AMERICAN SPENDOUR
American spendour the movie based on the life of comic book writer HARVEY PEKAR. Its a truly beautiful story made into a good movie with an excellent performance by paul giamatti for people who dont know this amazing actor....he is an actor a working actor as they call not a hollywood star...you see a hollywood star need not necessarily be an actor, they can just be stars....well paul giamatti was in last years critically acclaimed movie SIDEWAYS....and if you havent watched that he was in that kidoo flick"BIG FAT LIAR".
The movie was shot excellently telling the true story of mr.pekar and we have mr.pekar himself narrating the story from the begining we also get to see him do the intriduction. It shows that our daily mundane and absolutely boring lives can been looked at in a funny way and enjoyed. The best i liked was the opening shot when little harvey pekar goes around with other kids dressed as super heroes superman batman and robin and harvey as himself from house to house during halloween for collecting candy. The lady of the house on which they knock opens the door and with candy in hand asks each kid what he is and recognises them from their so obvious costumes and when she comes to harvey she asks"what are u suppossed to be kid?" and he replies "lady i am harvey pekar",and the lady is wondering as to which super hero is that and a frustrated harvey looking at the incredulous look on the lady's face says "i am just harvey pekar the kid in the neighbour hood" and walks away thinking what the heck.
The belief of mr.pekar that comics and bookd should be about us and our regular lives rather than on some super heroes we cant identify with.We all can identify with the story as well at some point of the time or the other in our lives think that our lives suck and are so boring. This as mr.pekar says is not about fairy tales with happy endings and everything is in soft focus...it is life in all its harsh realities.A good movie.
