So Deep In Love:
So Deep In Love has had a long and difficult past. It’s the oldest song on the record. I wrote it in 2002 in England while touring with my old worship band Capstone. (I always get tremendous inspiration when I’m traveling). I was writing a lot and So Deep In Love was one of the many songs I wrote for an upcoming release we were planning. I remember playing it for Brad first (our Keyboard player). He said it reminded him of Big Wreck (Big Wreck is classic Canadiana - Go download the album on iTunes - Big Wreck - ’In Loving Memory Of...’ - Released in 1999). I played it a little differently back then - but I thought, "Heck, that’s good - I’ll go show the other guys!". When I did, it was trashed by our drummer. I remember him saying that it was a total Coldplay rip-off. I took it really personally. And like any power hungry 24 year-old, I did what I considered was my only option: I stopped writing songs. In the spring of 2003 Capstone ended. In early fall of 2003 however, Stephen Leiweke (who produced "On The Blue" and a previous EP called "Six Days" - ) asked if I’d consider coming down to his house to record some of my newer songs (turns out I couldn’t stop writing). Brad and Curtis (Capstone’s bass player) travelled down to Nashville with me and we recorded a 6 song EP. So Deep In Love was one of those songs. It’s been recorded 3 different times and has appeared on numerous TV shows since then. It hasn’t changed much since that initial recording though. In fact, Brad’s original keyboard parts are still on the "On The Blue" version of So Deep In Love.
I can’t recall exactly what I was thinking when I wrote it. But I do remember the general feeling of being overjoyed by what God was taking us through; 4 young guys; traveling and learning about Jesus together. It was an incredible journey. The rifts between the four of us in Capstone have since healed. A lot of my musical history is tied to this one song. I really do treasure it and hope it speaks the depths of God’s love to you as you listen to it. Ephesians 3:17-19.
So Deep In Love is now on the music player.
