DOP Go Bye-bye

Hello friends,

After six years of spending an unhealthy and unusual amount of time together, Dirty on Purpose is going the way of the dodo. We got back from tour about a month ago and sat down to talk about recording another record, and realized we didn't really want to record another record. Not now anyway. So we're going our separate ways. Our best friends and practice space sharers of many years, A Place to Bury Strangers, offered us the opening slot on their New Year's Eve gig at Mercury Lounge. We thought it was an appropriate way to wind things down and say goodbye to our friends and fans.

Get your tickets now -- it's gonna sell out.

We're still playing music and we hope you'll come support our other projects: Joe and Doug harmonize sweetly in Neckbeard Telecaster; George shreds the bass in Coin Under Tongue; Joe helms Joe and the Flying Spoons; and Doug plays with Purse Snatchers and Black Acid.

Finally, we're all still buddies and live in the same town, so we reserve the right to change our minds and get back together in six months if we feel like it.

Love,
DOP

I hope you guys do decide to get back together!
But if not, I hope your separate projects go well.

Much love.

i live out in los angeles and was hoping you guys would return sometime. the last time you were here was at the echoplex in early 2007. i went to see you play and then the venue cut your set short (they also cut all the other opening bands' sets short, too). you guys were understandably pretty pissed; so was the crowd. people who hadnt heard of you were really into the songs you had played. i talked to doug after the show about "fake lakes". you all seemed really cool, too. ..im still a fan and it sucks to hear that you're going your separate ways. like the others, i wish you the best of luck. id love to hear that you guys plan to get back together again next year and can make it out west again. ..if i had money id make it out to the final show. sorry for the long post, just had to get it off my chest.

Sorry to hear, but best of luck guys. I can't believe it was 4 years ago that I saw you guys in Grand Rapids, MI. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the new projects.

I just died a little bit inside.

Honestly guys - I have been a huge fan since I first saw you fellows in the winter of 2002 at Ten Bells in Grand Rapids. I bought both the EPs and the record, and they receive heavy rotation in my disc changer.
I've driven from Grand Rapids, to Pontiac, to Ann Arbor, to Chicago to see you play! You guys always rocked, even when there were only four other tables filled in the venue!

And here's the coolest part - you guys actually had a hand in me meeting my girlfriend. After I setup my Facebook profile earlier this year, I did a search for Dirty on Purpose in the Grand Rapids network. Only one other person showed up, and that girl, after many emails, and chats, and much coaxing, has now become my girlfriend of ten weeks to the day. And we are madly in love and I dare say the happiest we've ever been in our lives! And it's thanks to you guys. Without your band, we never would have met each other! We owe you a debt of gratitude. It's a shame we will never be able to attend one of your rockin' concerts together.
Maybe during the reunion tour, right?:)

Peace out guys - best luck in future endeavors and all that bull shit! I'll be checkin' out your other projects!
