 Hello Freedomphiles! That man above is Otis "Bullman" Hensley, Kentucky's perennial losing gubernatorial candidate. He also almost became their newest sex offender. It seems Mr Hensley was at the store picking up some ground beef for his wife, when he came across a woman with her two nieces. Pulling out the old Appalachian joke to compliment the woman on her nieces: "I offered to trade her a fattening hog for those girls."
Not hilarious, no, but I get it. I've done something similar before, offering to trade a man my Honda for his Porsche. The joke is meant to compliment the Porsche by offering something clearly unequal in trade.
But next thing you know, Mr Hensley is arrested and facing ten years in prison for trying to "entice the children into illegal sexual activity."
He was stunned by the development. "I meant it as a joke. I've said it a million times. Most people get a kick out of it."
In the end, it was settled with an apology and a handshake, the charges being dropped. But I have to ask, what if it hadn't? Would we have one more person unfairly on the sex offender list, making it again even more difficult to determine who is actually a threat?
