wow.
The Philippines are off the hook. Seriously. Off the chain. Off the richter. Off the charts. See, jerome is the finest human being on the planet. (This is a well known fact. Find me one person who will dispute that and I will cease to call it as such.) And now I know that the country of his birth is filled with extraordinary folks as well. So much energy in the room tonight! one of my favorite nights of noise ever.

Here's something you need to know: IJM stands for International Justice Mission, an organization that last year alone rescued 100 girls from human trafficking for child prostitution right here in the Philippines. If you think you're immune just cause you live in The States think again. I was shocked to learn that human trafficking (a post-moderner's term for slave trade), goes on in all over the world: from manilla to san diego.

So here's the great news: 20% or the profits from tonight's show go to IJM in their efforts to stop modern slavery in all of it's forms. More slaves exist on the planet now than ever. Ever!? Yeah, ever. Yes, to the shame of every human life on the planet- slavery is thriving. What can we do in the shadow of this monster? learn. act. think. shape. go here for a start: http://www.cnn.com/video//video/specials/2007/06/29/heroes.somaly.man.pt1.cnn or google zach hunter if you need inspiration.

I was so inspired by the folks I met tonight. Thanks to everyone in over here on the other side of the pacific for inspiring me, we hope our songs can continue to do the same for you.

peace,
jon

Don't stop calling Jerome the finest, but remember that there are four other guys from this great band in San Diego that share the honor...along with my daughter and husband.

I didn't know about the slave trade. It sounds like its time to spread the word.

Jerome is the funniest person ever!!
And Wow, That's so not cool, it's less cool that a good handful of people know about it and choose to do nothing about it cause it's easier not to do anything.
I give you major props for opening your mouth...or blog..

Hey Jon.

I'm not sure if you'd remember, but I'm the girl who asked you to hug me and who gave the black notebook me and my friends worked so hard on. I just want to say thanks for everything you've done tonight. I loved your little speech. I kept "whoo"-ing at the parts wherein you had something really good to say. Well, I hope you liked the letter, and hopefully do reply. I have so much more to tell you. Really.

-Stef

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jon!

I know I haven't met you yet (but hopefully I will), but you met my bestfriend, STEFI! And she gave you the small black notebook we worked really hard (more like crammed) on.

Did you like my doodles in the notebook? Haha.
What about the balot egg? :] Hey...I USED to like that. Until I found out what it was.

Well. As Stefi said, I hope you reply. :)
THANKS SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING. Have a safe trip, k? G'night!

here's another one that will drop your jaw...

watch this movie/documentary: "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price"

watched it last weekend and I was SPEECHLESS!!!! I will NEVER step back into one of them after watching. and it's slavery that we kinda support, you know? it's aweful. i'm just waiting for Heaven at this point. nothing but sadness everywhere...... ughhhhhh.....

way to really help support all of these causes that never really get to see the light of day, my friend... thanks for all you do!!!!

i mean seriously....child prostitution... sick. so sick and so very heartbreaking. we need more Jon Foreman's out there bringing awareness to the causes that matter...that make a difference. God bless you, my sweet friend.

Jon, Jerome, Chad, Tim, and Drew....
Thanks so much for what you have done for IJM. I've been aware of their efforts for about three years now and I'm amazed at the level of determination this organization has to banish modern day slavery. I, like you, was shocked to learn about the millions of people who are enslaved today, often in countries where the government turns a blind eye. Unfortunately, it's not only the governments who turn a blind eye, too often it's us. We figure it's someone else's problem.

But we are talking about valuable, beautifully hand-crafted-in-the-image-of-God human beings. The problem isn't someone elses. It's ours. And it's beyond time we do something about it. Thanks so much for doing what you just did.

Thanks again for bringing light to the dark in such an amazing way. You guys are such a beautiful reflection of true Glory.

Thank you for bring this to the attention of so many people. It's kind of scary to think of, yet we all at one time or another have supported some sort of "human trafficking" even to the extent of the goods we buy. It is very humbling, to see through the detriment of others, the things we take for granted or don't stop to consider.

Awesome! IJM is a great organization. It is horrible that slavery is so prominent in the world today. Hopefully that can change by people becoming more aware and involved.

And, I agree, Jerome is the finest human being on the planet!

Jon,

Thank you. This is probably going to come out wrong, but I just have to say it: You guys inspire me every day to BE the church out there to a dying world. It gets hard to go into a building every week, realizing that no one around you is actually DOING anything to make a difference, and it affects you. It's like a gangrenous apathy.
I want my life to make a difference. It WILL count for something before I leave this spinning planet and head into eternity.
Thanks for raising awareness of causes like this one, and so many more that I support and want to be more involved with. I appreciate your heart, and ditto that for the other guys in the band. You are ALL just the best, in my humble opinion. ;)

Hey Jon~ I agree that Romey is the man ! I have an awesome picture of he and I that I treasure. I wish i could get to know him better, it would add something more to my life. I LOVE meeting people who are so caring of others. Of course I will throw in that you are all wonderful peoples!!It would be so awesome to spend more than 10 minutes with you, hey it was better than nothing but you guys are really special.
As for the IJM...I am aware of "human trafficking" and it makes me sick to my stomach. Ive watched videos and documentarys of subjects like this becuz i like to be informed of all the things going on in this world, good and bad. I just try not to stay on the bad for too long as it would get depressing. I wish I had money to help organizations such as IJM. Our children are the future and they are being hurt and really messed up..and then people ask why are our kids acting out..Drrrrr..alot of people are ignorant to these subjects and I wish we all could try harder to help out anyway that we can. Awareness is a start. OK anyways.. just My two cents. Jon, you do your fair share of giving inspiration to alot of fans (including myself) you dont even know how much. You should be proud of yourself and feel good as a human being. as should Jerome :} I hope I can talk to you guys again (In December!!!!) when I see you in Salem Oregon..Im stoked that you guys are coming back!! love ya xo ~Pennylane

I WAS THERE!

i was part of the Switchfoot Benefit Concert in Manila! my friends and i were so proud of Philippines' very own, Jerome! we rocked out and our spirits were soaring because we know that we are part of a revolution - a revolution to end human trafficking. it was the best experience ever.

that night was not just about Switchfoot's music, it was more about humanity, the value of every human being, the value of every creation of God. i was blessed by the concert so much that i made a personal pledge to do whatever i can to help change the world. i was close to tears when jon talked about helping others. i believe that the time is now to stop thinking of ourselves only, the time is now to step out of our comfort zone, and start thinking about other people.

Switchfoot pointed that out last night.

Jerome is indeed bringing pride to the Filipino people.

Pinoys know how to rock for a godd cause, as shown last night!

Big thanks to Switchfoot and keep on supporting the International Justice Mission.

IJM rocks. I grew up in the Philippines and had to pass through a "red light district" every day to get to school. Even though I was only in middle school, I knew what went on there. We all worked to help change things in that area, but progress was painfully and frustratingly slow.

I'm so glad that you all got to experience the most beautiful people on earth.
