1 / HOTEL CAFE TOUR - wow. it's already april 10th. really? i felt like the hotel cafe tour started yesterday (actually march 6th). this thing is moving so fast. after a first week with jessie baylin (who became a full-on rock star on this tour), greg laswell (such a good friend and heartbreaking songwriter), jim bianco (throwing some serious mojo), and miss kate havnevik (our norwegian import who stunned the crowds every night by not delivering the status quo), ingrid and i moved on to the next phase with my great old friends from LA joshua radin and meiko. all of this plus little runs from chris denny (real deal arkansas kid), AM (another LA buddy), the angel-voiced priscilla ahn, my new hero dan wilson, and eric hutchinson (who destroys with a work ethic and sense of humor that i aspire to). all this plus local visits from gary jules, rachael yamagata, elliot morris, and the kin. plus our old friend sara bareilles dropped in for four shows and showed us how to both have a massive hit single and also be completely unfazed by all that comes with it. i love that girl. that's a lot of music in five weeks... whew.
now we're in the last run down the west coast with two of my very good friends bianco and william fitzsimmons as well as my newest friend on the tour, miss jesca hoop. san fran tomorrow then two LA shows.
and i could not have a better partner-in-crime on this tour than ingrid michaelson. i knew her as a person before i really knew her as an artist, so these shows were my real introduction to her on stage - damn if she doesn't step up to the plate every night and very naturally and casually slay the crowds. it's amazing to see someone come into their own... and with allie moss and the world's greatest band playing with us, it makes life a lot easier.
this is what happens when ingrid and i have a couple of drinks with all of our friends and are handed mikes at karaoke. we let off some steam, "dirty dancing"-style... i just about blew out my voice singing this (damn you, bill medley), but it was well worth it for the laughs...
2 / THE "RIDE" SINGLE ON iTUNES
"ride" the EP hit itunes last week. it includes the album version of the tune, the tiesto remix (edit and long version), and the new video and remix video. for those of you who have been around listening for a while, the video and remixes are the new additions to the catalogue. "ride" is a song that has been out in the world for a while, but it has never been released as a single before. one reason for the EP is the fact that tiesto, one of the biggest DJs in the world, shockingly decided to remix the tune. the other reason for pushing it hard now is...
3 / THE "RIDE" VIDEO on VH1
yes, a crazy miracle has occurred, and the new "ride" video was added by VH1. statistically speaking, VH1 simply does not add independent artists (other than my touring partner and good friend ingrid). as an indie artist, this is as good as it gets in terms of exposure and also says a lot about VH1 recognizing non-major label artists. they will start playing the video next week. as soon as it is airing, i will be getting back in touch with you guys to tell you how to vote for it and hopefully keep it on the air and get it more airplay. thanks, VH1.
