Who Gives Kudos:

Thursday, November 20, 2008

I am going back to NYC next week, to master the album. As some of you know we had to move the date to finish some mixes with Gareth Jones.

So on wednesday at 11am I will be at Sterling Sound with Greg Calbi.

I am so excited....

----------------------------

Greg Calbi started out in the mastering business in his early 20s at the famed Record Plant, New York, where he worked on such 70's classics as John Lennon's "Walls and Bridges", David Bowie's "Young Americans" and Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run". He moved to Sterling Sound in 1976 and was active in the late 70's New Wave scene, working with groups such as The Ramones, The Talking Heads and Patti Smith. In the mid 1980's, after mastering Paul Simon's "Graceland", he began to add jazz and world music to his discography, including Bill Frisell, Joshua Redmond, Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas and Branford Marsalis. In the past two years, Greg has continued to expand his discography, mastering a wide range of releases, most notably Bad Brains' "Build a Nation", John Mayer's Grammy-Winning "Continuum", Flight of The Conchords, Stephen Malkmus' "Real Emotional Trash", MGMT's "Oracular Spectacular", Norah Jones' "Not Too Late", The Beastie Boys' "Mix Up", Interpol's "Our Love To Admire", Super Furry Animals' "Hey Venus", Drive By Truckers' " Brighter Than Creation's Dark", Gov't Mule's "Mighty High", Iron & Wine's "The Shepherd's Dog", Thurston Moore's "Trees Outside The Academy", Cat Power's "Jukebox", The Hold Steady's "Stay Positive", Amanda Palmer's "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" and the Academy-Award winning soundtrack "Once". In the summer of 2005, Greg had the great opportunity to re-master 16 Bob Dylan albums in the SACD format, including "Blond on Blond" , "Freewheeling" and "Blood on the Tracks", probably the most interesting engineering project in his career. Greg has worked closely on projects over the past eleven years with mastering engineer Steve Fallone, who boasts many credits of his own including three albums by TV on the Radio.
