From my open apartment window I can hear whilsting, whooping and cheering. At first I thought it was just the usual gathering of John Dang fans and I considered hanging my teddy bear off the balcony for publicity's sake...but no...Today there is more than one voice and it's not completely drunken. Alas, it is not my regular stalker! Instead, this weekend is 'Gay Pride' weekend in Manchester and the city has turned pink. They've put up a big stage a couple of hundred yards from where I live and the streets are absolutely packed full of people - a crazy carnival atmosphere. It's great for the city and it's a beautiful day too so everyone seems to be having a good time. My only complaint is that I've heard that song: 'In the Navy' three times in the last 24 hours. Surely, that's three times too many?
I love the fact that Manchester is so multi cultural and open. It's a truly wonderful place to live - we have everything that London has but we're just a little less busy, a little less expensive and the people have a lot more time for each other. I highly recommend it if you're visiting the UK.
I've been pretty busy these last few weeks which is part of the reason for my absence on the blog front. Life can be all consuming sometimes can't it? The hours and days just seem to fly by. I'm writing a lot at the moment - it's a good creative time for me...a lot has happened this year...emotional ups and downs and putting it all down on tape and in song is very therapeutic for me. It's pretty much the only way I know how to get certain things off my chest. I will start recording my new EP this next month and it's scheduled for release in January so you'll be able to hear all the new songs very soon.
I've also been watching the Olympics intermittently. Aren't they addictive! It's funny how you can sit down and watch something and have no idea about it but within half an hour of listening to the commentary you're suddenly an expert. I was watching the diving today and chatting to a friend online. For about the first 15 minutes we had no idea what was going on but within half an hour, we were both tutting and sighing and oohing and ahhing...his 'entry wasn't quite perfect', 'too much splash','a bit too much arch'. hahaha. It's ridiculous - instant living room experts. So much fun and so addictive.
I've actually decided that I'm going to start training really hard and attempt to work my way into the British Tae Kwon Do Olympic team for 2012. I don't know whether it will happen as it's a pretty tough goal but it's worth a shot! I'm pretty lucky because my dad runs a big martial arts centre in Manchester and we have some of the best teachers around. When I was 16 -18 I used to train for 2 hours, 5 nights a week and I used to compete a lot; winning lots of medals and titles right up until I was 22. This year I've started training really hard again - I'm in the gym 6 days a week at the moment and I'm really starting to feel like my old self.
I hope you're all doing great and having a lovely summer. Thanks for all your messages...and yes I will put some more songs up soon - I'm actually just trying to work out how to add more! hehehe.
Bye for now. x
