.. .. Greetings,
I wrote a little blog the other day, and it got lost in cyberspace. So this is me trying again, except I don't remember at all what I was rambling about so I guess I'll ramble about something new.
This feels a bit overdue, but I wanted to thank everyone who came to the show November 8th. As a do-it-yourselfer, you can only do what you can do and hope that word of mouth does it's job too and together we can create something awesome. I'm sure anyone here who has planned a party, a wedding, whatever, knows that the most stressful moment often comes at the time the party is scheduled to start. Will people come? Especially for a live album, when the audience is so important, will people come? I figured I would start pacing at about 8pm...but as fate would have it, people started to show up at 730. All you party planners know that at that moment, nothing looks better than a lineup. So thank you! I do not have an official release date as of yet, but I will announce one when I do.
Now I am back at home, and enjoying it. I spent about 1/3 of the year away from home. I look forward to doing it again, and doing MORE next year, but I also am happy to behome, and especially during the most wonderful time of the year -Christmas! Our tree is up, we hung our stockings by the fire with care, and my cats have already had fun trying to tear the tree apart. It's going to be wonderful.
Due in part to touring schedules,a nd in part to just being oblivious (or out of touch, lazy....), I've missed a lot of great concerts that have come to Vancouver lately. Duffy, Jason Mraz, Ray Lamontagne....I'm drawing a blank here, but there have been plenty. I find this both slightly sad, but also ridiculous. 'Ridiculous, why?' you ask? Because last night, I managed to get myself out to see The New Kids on The Block. Yup. Last night, I got to live out my childhood dreams, and I did indeed feel like a kid all over again. I giggled, I used the top of my lungs to their fulls hrill potential and let myself have fun. I spend a lot of my yime listening to, disecting and admiring, researching clever, crafty, genius music(in my opinion) because I love it, and to inspire my own passion of songwriting. Last night, it was purely for entertainment and I soaked in every cheesy, heartfelt moment. Even my very reluctant boyfriendfound himself laughing at the spectacle of it all. A spectacle it was,and I'm glad we went.
Don't worry, we made sure we got our adult credibility back by going to see my friends Run GMC and The Town Pants afterwards, at The Commodore. They put on an amazing show, and to a well deserved packed house. And every person who we talked to about the New Kids concert immediately got goofy kid smiles on their faces. When the Town Pants mentioned the NKOTB concert, there was a sprinkle of people in the crowed who waved their hands in the air like they just didn't care. I think I waved mine the hardest.
I got to fulfill a lot of myself in one night - my 8 year old selfs crush band (NKTOB),my country roots (Run GMC), and the maritimer in me (Town Pants). This morning, I woke up feeling light hearted and satisfied.
xo Katie
