I'm recovering from a media-hangover. Fortunately yesterday flew by rather smoothly and everyone who came out was wonderful, patient and did a wonderful job on their stories!

Hilary Duff arrived at the Herb Jamieson Centre shortly after 11:30. She smiled and greeting the cameras that followed her from her Escalade up to the doors of the HJC. She quickly put on her Hope Mission apron and hat and got ready to serve some hungry men their lunch.

I can honestly say that she was completely genuine and there was no pretension what so ever. Hilary served lunch until every man in line received his meal and then we walked back over to our main building, which is a block north of the HJC. I gave her a quick tour of our transitional housing and then lead her back downstairs for one-on-one interviews.

Hilary also took some time to meet the kids of staff and board members.

It was a great experience and I can't thank Hope Mission staff enough for helping me prepare for this event.

Thanks to Global, CTV, SHAW, CBC, The Edmonton Journal, The Edmonton Sun, 24 Hours and City TV for coming by!

I was all smiles when I read this in the papers the next day. I took no notice of celebrity pretention, and thought that most famous people that come through town give no personal touch whatsoever, and sometimes I can't blame them (Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie wanted 'with reward' by a local radio station, etc). Ms. Duff isn't on coke or out drunk-driving, simple point. I've never been inclined to buy one of her products, but this month she happens to be on the cover of Maxim, and she's rather elegantly dressed in the spread.

It takes someone like this--not radiating just lead painted Barbie smiles for public awareness, but bringing the sparkle (and the cameras) to where it's most needed.

take care, Janelle
