THE FAITH OF BARACK OBAMA by Stephen Mansfield does not answer all of the questions but it does answer many.

Mansfield reviews the childhood religious influences in President-Elect Obama's life and explains how he came to embrace Christianity.  He also offers an explanation of Jeremiah Wright's black liberation theology and provides more depth to Trinity United Church of Christ than was available on You Tube.

But Mansfield did not explore Obama's faith in a vacuum.  He compared and contrasted his beliefs with that of the other players in this recent election: Hillary Clinton, John McCain and George W. Bush.  In the process, he reminds us that we would be better served as Americans if we focused more on what we have in common than where we differ.

While no one can truly know the heart of another man, THE FAITH OF BARACK OBAMA provides the groundwork for understanding his position with the Religious Left and an appreciation for a detail in his life that I had not previously considered.

Barack Obama is different from most African Americans we know, because unlike most of the others, he does not have a heritage of slavery.  That nuance in his family history has a major impact on his world view.

Stephen Mansfield is also the author of THE FAITH OF GEORGE W. BUSH

thank you for taking the time to do research on this and not spreading more media hype and propaganda. This was a tough election for me as I saw so much hatred and even after it was over, some people are still having a hard time letting go of that hate. I had just made up my mind, who ever won, I would show my support as if we are ever to heal as a nation, we need to put our hate and differences aside. We need to give Mr. Obama a chance. Too many people have already condemned him without giving him a chance to prove if he can do what he says.

THE LEGENDARY BURL BARER

I wonder what the heck any person's personal religious beliefs have to do with their ability to represent their constituency. However, with that said, I acknowledge that I am fearful of Christians because of my personal experience of being physically attacked by them. No Buddhists, Hindus or Pagans have ever thrown garbage at me, screamed in my face, or told me I couldn't live somewhere because of my religion. No Zoroastrian ever forbid my family from swimming at the local pool. Remember the signs the read "No Negroes, Dogs or Jews Allowed?"
Why did we get third billing? I took the issue up with my agent, and we're negotiating second billing with a German Shepherd. Lotsa luck. When a candidate is fearful of acknowledging a belief in science because it may cost votes (no candidate is asked if they accept gravity, but other scientific issues are often raised as if superstition and ignorance are prerequisites for public service), I shudder at the collateral implications. What's next? Only in America, land of the free, are we amazed that a man who is "part Black" became elected to the highest office. Gee, what has become of America? What's next, a Jew? A Moslem? A Buddhist? There is a lovely poster of Adolph Hitler in full Christian Crusader gear, complete with big red cross. Now that's the kind of man that many American's could really get behind -- he's Christian!

Thank you, Diane.
Burl, you are sure a cynical guy.
Glad to hear you're scared of me. It will make it easier for me when I'm on your radio show.
