Well judging by your icon you were most likely wanting them to spray everyone with Faygo... This video was so perfect for this song and these artist were paying their respect for Johnny who is a icon.  You have no idea what you are talking about.  Just because there were no half naked freaks grinding on someone or a pole does not make it a bad video.  Pay attention!!!!  Johnny could not be there himself...duh!!!  It is so obvious that you are not a true fan.

I agree this video was pretty lame.  I love Johnny Cash, but this video was just a bunch of famous people making appearances.  Didn't really have anything to do with the song.

This is a good video, but it isn't exactly how I would have done it. I'm sure it was tough to make a video for someone that has passed on, but some performance from the man himself would have been nice (recording the song) and something else rather than a bunch of stars reflecting on their own mortality. Great song, poor video.

Johnny Cash Will Always Be A Legend, But In this video, they had people in it, who didn't even know Johnny Cash. They had the write idea, But I'm not sure Johnny Would like all those celebs in there. He would go out into the world, not just stay in Hollywood.

hi sorry just had to reply to your post. I am huge johnny and june fan and as you said "But they had people in that video who never or heard of Johnny Cash" johnny had talked about all those people or been associated with everyone in it. the only one i questioned was kayne west. the rest johnny has talked about or he worked with. like johnny said he had at one time thought johnny depp would be good to play him in a movie plus cash played the viper club owned by depp. kate moss was in a cash video. justin timberlake gave a shout out to johnny when he won mtv award he thought johnny deserved and johnny saw that. sheryl crow and johnny were close friends. i have to admit i did not care for the video that much either but johnny knew all of them.:) plus kris was 1 of johnny's closest friend's as cash gave him his start. and they have all talked well of cash.

I could hardly sleep last night ,I wanted to see this video.  Well ,I love the song and have loved all the songs on this album since i got it.  But I have to say I was very  disappointed today  when I saw this video. Its not at all what i thought it would be. It is just a bunch of faces on the screen.   Most of them have no connect with John or his music and especially not his way of life. I don't feel that it represents Johnny Cash at all.

To offer my own humble opinion, I really must say that that has GOT to be one of the most absolutely BEAUTIFUL music videos that I have ever seen in my life, to go along with a truly breathtaking song...it is really a testament to itself!!!

It is truly amazing to see so many people, from such different walks of life, show their respect to one man, who has brought together so many people, and Johnny DEPP, in particular, is truly my personal Hollywood HERO, so to see that stunningly beautiful face there amongst the mele` makes it all the closer to my heart....

Congratulations and thank you, to Mr.Cash, and all of those who put so much of themselves in to this project, for what is sincerely a TIMELESS piece of art!!!

It's almost offensive that young people think its beautiful that jay-z, justin timberlake, amy lee, kanye west, kate moss (way out of left field), etc. stick their faces in a music video of a gospel song performed by johnny cash.

I understand about a third of the persons included in this video (keith richard, billy gibons, dennis hopper, anyone old enough to have possibly known johnny cash).  The rest just boggle my mind.

Yes, we all know you're loaded Jay-Z.  You can stop making your stupid diamond symbol and stop showing up in NBA ads.  Thanks.

I think what some people are missing is that each person in this video was deeply affected by Cash and his work and they all come from incredibly diverse backgrounds.  Not that many years ago, it would have been shocking to imagine that individuals (artists all of them!) that are this diverse would be so influenced by a young white man, born in the early 1930s in Arkansas, who sang "country" music set to the simplest, sparest bass line.  Like others have already stated, each person in the video has already expressed their profound debt to Cash in the past - - some when he wasn't so incredibly popular (when, believe it or not, he couldn't get air time on radio stations that should have been ashamed to shun a pioneer of their genre).

I think Johnny would have been (and is) proud of the video.  I also think he would tell some people to stop being so close-minded.  For example  -- why stereotype Jay Z?  He is a man that has gone through a shitload and may be finally enjoying his wealth.  So what?  Why don't you go listen to his "99 Problems" - - don't you see Cash's influence in the song (especially the second verse)?

Cash's music was often dirty, bloody, impolite.  He spoke to the "lowest" of society.  His songs, in some eras (and, if performed by other artists in their own styles/genres) would have been considered (and were considered) depraved even.  He sang about killing his wife Delia.  Duh.  How is this different (aside from the vernacular) than some of the "crudest" rap?

Cash was both a sinner and a saint.  And his music (and this video) points out the commonalities in all of us.  We are all very, very different - - yet, more importantly, THE SAME.  I think that is the message Cash always meant to deliver - - and, I think, this video delivers it as well.

AND, frankly, maybe I'm too much of a pragmatist - - but if putting Justin Timberlake or Kanye West (both of whom, as others have pointed out, have spoken about Cash's deep influence) in a video gets one more kid to listen to a Johnny Cash song for what it is and stops thinking of it as " old-fashioned country" (hmmm, a stereotype that was once used to lambast him and his music in the 80s  - - just as you are stereotyping Jay Z's music as music that you apparently just "can't get" because of the source), then I don't really give a crap.

To be honest, I think I own at least 40+ albums that Cash has recorded (or compilations of songs he has recorded that studios have put out; including Johnny Cash Reads the New Testament!) -- so I'd say I'm a fan who would not want his memory tarnished in any way - - but, if you really get to know who I think Johnny Cash is (and was), then you'd stop bitching and start loving.

I was excited to see the video and it left me thinkin "what the heck?!" But after thinkin a bit more, maybe the video does go with the song. Maybe it was to show that even the big famous people can be cut down as well. There were some legendary figures in there (Iggy Pop, Keith Richards), liberals, conservatives, actors, singers, etc., and they too will answer to God, no matter how famous, nice, funny, bad a**, or whatever.
Praise God for Jesus Christ, who saves us from all sin, and makes us acceptable to God. Jesus makes ALL exceptable to God. Just gotta humble yourself, even the big and famous.

I couldn't even believe the video...I held my breath the entire time. He lives in that video and the fact that all these celebrities took time to appear for 3 seconds in a Johnny Cash video says A LOT. Try doing that with any other artist and you will probably fail. God bless ya Mr. Cash and keep on livin through your music.

This video is a DISGRACE to a brilliant song.  Terrible!  Absolutely MEANINGLESS!!! How did they manage to follow one of the greatest videos ever made ("Hurt") with one of the WORST videos ever made?

Kate Moss? Travis Barker? Justin Timberlake? Chris Rock? Bono? Owen Wilson?

WHAT?!?!

What do these people have to do with anything?  And even if the presence of all these stars is somehow justified, the video was STILL STUPID. A bunch of celebrities looking at the camera with deep, meaningful gazes?  What a thoughtless, meaningless, B-L-A-N-D piece of CRAP.

This song deserved so much more.  What a complete failure and an obvious marketing ploy.  I felt NOTHING while watching this video.  Not a damned thing.  This might as well have been an ad for iPods or The Gap.

Rick Rubin... you should be ashamed of yourself for allowing this video to be made.

I was searching for a list of the people that were in this video and came across ya'll here. Then I got to reading your comments.

I think the point of the video is as simple, yet deep, as the song. Each of the people in the video have "had the world in their hands" and then they have all had moments where they fell....."cut down" you might say. Having a diverse mix of people, ages and talents helps to show that it happens to everyone. I think their deep, meaningful gazes are a moment humility.....admitting they've been "cut down" before. I think they are very respectful not only to Cash but in their admitting God is in charge. Everyone in the video is a child of God. Some of them I don't care to see, watch, listen to. But that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be there. I think Cash loved all kinds and appreciated a wide variety of musicians and people. And they him.

With few exceptions, this video showcases the epitomy of the "15 minute famer". This video really, really, really, sucks. Johnny Cash is a LEGEND. Why pay "tribute" to a legend with a bunch of has beens, losers, and controversial figures. Johnny wasnt divisive, he was a person who melded genres and people. I guess this video showcases how far the entertainment industry has fallen.

This video should never have been made. The song is powerful enough not to need a video. Kind of sick that they make a video of someone's song after they are dead.

Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

These lyrics apply to more than half the people in the video anyways...

I just watched the video and for people who don't understand it they won't like it but if you think about it everyone has been influenced by Johnny's music and I think the people in the video just wanted to show they loved him .This had to be real hard for Kris Kristofferson and he would not have just let anyone appear just for fame sake.LOVE the song and video.Johnny cash is the greatest.

look buddy that was still a waste of time and a retarded video and for you to say something like " people who wont understand it" THERES NOTHING TO UNDERSTAND why the hell would they put Jay Z in the video and Kanye West then huh? like cash really influenced them thats the most retarded thing ever if ludacris died would they put Keith Urban or Kenny Chesney in the music video as a tribute to him? I do not think so so obviously your statement was bullshit because that video was nothing more than a shame to the legacy of cash and what he did for all of us with his music and his message and for someone like you to make a statement that says u love cash is pretty lame and if he was still alive he would be shamed that 1. hsi music was on mtv and 2. that people who know nothing about him are put in a video to try and "commemorate" his life thats retarded so think nex time before you make a statement like that .

I agree with you Sara! One hundred percent.

Who gives a flying F*$#% if Kate Moss or Travis Barker want to show their appreciation.

If this was really a tribute video, you'd see Cash's best friend all over the damn thing. It's no wonder Willie Nelson refused to be in this video! I guess they got Q-Tip to replace him. Ha ha ha.

Oh.. and for the person saying that it must've been hard for Kris Kristofferson... guess what... those shots of him were pulled from his own music video!!!! You'll notice he's singing. He didn't shoot that for the Cash video AT ALL!!! They couldn't get him to do it so they were forced to pull clips from his video to "This Old Road". You can watch it here...

http://newwestrecords.com/kris/vid/

Be it known people... Cash's closest friends knew this was Hollywood crap. They knew better because they knew Cash. This was a cheap ploy to MAKE MONEY and I believe the handful of credible artists seen in this video probably had no idea what they were getting into.

You are being maniuplated and moved by HOLLYWOOD B.S.
DON'T FALL FOR IT.

This song is too good to be treated like a cologne commercial.
