If I am in the rare position of actually liking a Hollywood film, I find myself trying to justify it....I generally don't like Hollywood films. You know that. BUT, here it is Oscar contender season and WALK THE LINE was released. Obviously, without a doubt, Joaquin Phoenix will get the Best Actor nomination for his portrayal of Johnny Cash. I LOVED this film-- it touched my heart. Such a sweet story...of course, it's the same rock 'n roll saga of drugs, marital problems, and struggles to maintain a high profile career. But, the script was done sooo well!! I'm still a sucker for biographical stories on well-known musicians (maybe it's cuz I don't have VH1 and am not burned out on BEHIND THE MUSIC- hahaha). I also adore stories on creative pioneers and those who talent allowed them to rise to the top despite all odds.

The music performances were just downright fun. Makes me appreciate the Social Distortion song "Ring of Fire" (a Johnny Cash cover song) all the more. Sweet-as-can-be Miss Reese Witherspoon (remember I slaved for her film JUST LIKE HEAVEN)-- gave the best performance of her career. I'm terribly happy when I see a Hollywood film I really like. Makes me feel human again. It lasts for one month (Oscar Contender season-- when all the "great" studio releases appear) and then it's back to "Hollyweird"-- fuck that, I'm doing my own thang.

Peace, people.

Film and Destroy.
