Given my propensity for flashing the middle finger, it only seems fitting that it is the finger I slammed in the car door after my show Thursday night.

Talk about some seriously brutal pain. The nail has turned blue & black... luckily I have almost black nail polish on, so this does not look as gross as it feels.

But I digress.

The point really is that until a couple days ago, I had 2 working hands and now I only have 1 and 1/2. It's taken me twice as long to type this as usual because I only have my 2 index fingers. I cant open bottle or jars, getting dressed is a pain in the ass and it has been a general disruption to have a finger constantly burn.

The silver side is that this is temporary; it makes me realize how grateful I should be that all my limbs work properly. Everyday I can usually move about the cabin as I wish.

I need to start appreciating what I do have instead of constantly worrying about what I am missing.

The truth is, no matter if you're 5, 15, or 55, every day of good health is a massive gift.

& instead of worrying about stupid crap, we should live for now.

As for the second silver lining, my middle finger does not bend at the moment. It points straight up and out.... & I have a great excuse for it.

mp:)

heh i know how you feel. that happened to me too. i was in 9th grade and i was playing football with the guys cause palying with the girls just bugs me cause they were all big wimps worrying about breaking nails. anyways the ball landed the wrong way on my middle finger and my finger turned black and blue and it took about 2 1/2 months till it was able to fully move it and the pain was pretty muted down. so yeah, hopefully yours heals faster.

She's ba-ack!! And ready for whatever 2010 bri

ooooh!

I did that... i shut my middle finger (between the bottom of my nail and the top of the first nickle) in the till at work while i was serving a customer... I was screaming and then i had to pull it out myself because we can't open the till ourselves. THE COSTOMER LAUGHED AT ME AND SAID "THAT'S GOTTA HURT!" I was almost in tears and could not move it for 2 weeks!... it went purple too and when i was cooking veggie curry about 4 days latter i got war chili up the same finger nail... it hurt so i had it under a cold tap for half an hour! And i cried! It's amazing that food can cause you pain without even eating it!!

I have realised recently (after moaning a tun!) that i should be happy with at least one thing in my life. So now, whenever i do off on one i always finish the sentence with well at least I'm not _____ or _____ or_______________.

I hope it heals really quick!

D!

I love this blog... good excuse to tell someone... you know what!!! It's true though... you definitely have to be thankful for everything we do have even when we can't always see it... I can say that I am thankful... that once in awhile I have a great boyfriend who I can slap upside the head when he says something stupid... and he doesn't slap me me back... see? it's the little things! Thanks for posting!

Yes Mandi, I feelfor you. The slamming of the finger does bring back dashouvue; about 15 yrs ago I was going to eat pizza at Mazzios and I was getting out of my truck, then sinse I am a guy I was seeing this fine ass girl walk by and I slammed my door. I slammed my middle-finger of my right hand in the door and I couldn't move it. I had to ask the pretty ladie to reach into my pocket and get my keys and open the door. You can just imagine how embarrassed I was. Turns out that ladie was a nurse and she helped me out a lot.

Thank you Mandi hope your precious little finger gets better soon.

Aw...hope that digit's feeling better quicker than you can say, "Alice's finger in no man's land!" I crunched mine when I was like five, and didn't even yet know it had a *special* use.
;) Anyway, thanks for the reminder that we should be grateful for the important things and not sweat the others!

you know this has happened to me. when i first got my license my mom made me drive to the grocery store. my car doesn't have that nifty little key chain door unlock and for some reason after i locked my door she slammed it, on my thumb. and my keys were in the bottom of my bag so i had to stand there and wait until the door was unlocked and opened so i could remove my finger. i had to wait months for the nail to grow out and the little bubble under it to go away.

I smashed my middle finger pretty bad before. Oddly enough, it was in a regular door. I guess we(you) will have to wait and see if the nail falls off. It can be pretty fun to freak people out with, but the regrowth will look funny for a while. My nail had bend that didn't go away for a year.

That comment sounded funnier before I typed it.

I can say I love that quote! I love that movie! I'm sorry about your middle finger accident!

at least it happened after the show and not before! Glad you had a good night and I have

read things happen for a reason.
It does force you to slow down a bit! Keep things in

perspective! I just got done with a long drive to fort brag with my parents and my grandma

who is in pretty bad health. I kept my sanity while listening to your new c.d.
on my I-Pod!

I drowned out my grandma's repeated questions the whole way up with your music and was

able to sleep going home! Old age is a bitch and I don't want to experience it for a very long

time!

Take care!

I commiserate with you. 2 weeks ago my foot fell asleep while sitting crosslegged in a chair and when I got up I slammed my foot down on the side and broke it. Yes in not 1, but 2 places and on top of it all my right foot! I would be stranded except for the wonderful family I have and the great friends who check daily to see if I need anything. It really made me look at how I was rushing through life and not appreciating the little things like rain, kittens- (yes I know too gushy- but i really do have a litter of kittens running around right now.)and being able to freely walk about without worrying if I can fit my wheelchair in there or will I have to use crutches. And yes- please offer to help if someone is in the grocery store in one of those electric carts and they can't reach something. Thanks for confiming my recent relavation.

I broke my middle finger last year in PE.

Hurt worse than anything.

So I know how you feel.

I hope your finger feels better though.

Try icing for like 5 mins every so often.

Works wonders.

And I totally agree with everything you said.

People just don't realize how much of their lives they are actually wasting worrying about it all.

They should just stop worrying and enjoy life and all it has to offer, instead of dreading all the small things that really aren't worth it in the end.

Well, a prescription is to rub as soon as possible, when you realize that it happens,
- also it..s good advice to keep it cool at the same time, even it hurts awfully.

Both together is the best advice.

I guess it ..s to late rigth now- but maybe you can remember any time.

I hope you won..t need the a advice, but if take it...

So get soon and keep healthy ,-)

best regards
Reiner

That's the best advice I have heard in a long time. I am going to add that to my favorite list of quotes. Thanks. I hope your finger heals fast. Make sure you keep ice on it so it can faster. I would say elevate it, but uh, you don't have a problem with that.

OUCH! I slammed my thumb in my dad's car door when I was in middle school. My entire nail turned black and blue too. I ended up going to the doctor to have the nail punctured, then my nail fell off. It was gross.

I feel your pain. I recently slammed my index finger, with my car door, right on the nail. It hurt really bad, throbbing all day, couldn't bend it for a week. But that's not all. Just wait for the finger nail to start falling off. It took almost 3 months, for my nail to get back to normal.
