Happy New Year! Liberation is here! Shout out to my brother Mad Lib, for being so creative and inspirational, and for giving me a canvas to paint on. This project was inspired by his consistency, it was something I wanted to be a part of. In this era of over produced and over marketed product, Mad Lib leads the pack of independent artists who could care less about all of that. I am a part of the music industry, and lord knows I'm needed, but for our own sanity we must step outside the system and create that which is not packaged for mass consumption. This is also a gift to the fans who stick by me whether some corporation is currently promoting me or not. Now, I love all music, and my albums so far, including eardrum, reflect those influences. This album is a straight ahead, sample driven hiphop record, from two of the best doing it. Some fans will say this is the sound they want to hear from me all the time. If so, congratulations, you got your wish. However, do not use this to speculate what eardrum will sound like. It is a different project with different influences. As a matter of fact, be on the lookout for the video for More or Less, dropping this week as well. I will continue to push the envelope creatively in the spirit of my ancestors. RIP James Brown, Gerald Levert, J Dilla. Shout out to C Smyth, Eothen, Dave Dar, SMT studios, Tyson, Consequence, Elzhi, Res, Candice Anderson, Strong Arm Steady, Chace Infinite. Blacksmith the Movement in stores now. The year of the Blacksmith has begun. Talib Kweli, BKMC

Big ups Talib. You inspired me to get into the game, and I'm still learning. But ya music keeps me going in this corporate driven world. We need a revolution to bring real music in. I've turned a few people in your music and now they stopped listening to radio. Now they thrive on underground and real music. I am working on my own stuff and got a sample rite now on my page. Thanks for keeping music real and comercial free peace

Good luck on the New Year and the Movement. Thanks for the great show you put on when you were in AZ, that local guy was whack to warm things up but once you brought your energy to the stage it was tight. Wish you would have performed Memories live or Can I talk to you though. Peace

It's good to see that there still is an appreciation for good music with a meaningful message that is not concerned with publicity.

Keep those beats rolling

Dope, dope, dope. You're right - since Dilla's passing Madlib is the most consistent producer out there, no contest. And I can't give you enough props for releasing this free to the fans. Can't wait to pay you back by picking up my copies of all the new Kweli coming in 2007. Country Cousins and Listen have already received heaps of airplay on my show down here in NZ. Eardrum is gonna be hot as hell.

Happy New Year!

A huge thanks is due to both yourself and Madlib. This was the first album I listened to in 2007 and hopefully it is the sign of things to come musically. This album is masterfully written and powerfully produced. Thank you Kweli and Madlib for such a ridiculously dope album to kick off the New Year!!!

Talib,

I think what you did was very good for hip hop. We need more music-driven (as opposed to money-driven) albums out there.
I have most of your records, I will get Eardrum as well.

Well done

it's a dope album. Straight fire!
It's also a both generous and clever marketing move.

Looking forward to "Eardrum" - you know I rep your ish to the fullest over here and generate some additional sales....!
