IN LIBERIA I WAS INTRODUCED TO A YOUNG LEADER KIMMIE WEEKS, WHO WAS DOING A LOT TO HELP THE PEOPLE. WOMEN , CHILDREN , CHILD SOLDIERS ETC. I WAS FILMED AS PART OF A SHOW TO HUMBLE CELEBRITIES IN THE MAINSTREAM WHO SPEND ALL DAY SHAKING IT WITH PARIS HILTON AND SINGING ABOUT CLOUDS AND LIVING IT UP IN A GLASS HOUSE.

SO I SAID YES FOR THESE REASONS

1 . I'M NOT THAT, i don't live in a bubble. BUT I HAVE SEEN THE REALITY OF THAT. STRAIGHT AFTER TMBARLAND AND TIMBERLAKE SIDE I WANTED TO GO TO HUNGERLAND AND....NO TIMBER HOUSE BY THE LAKE LIKE.

2. I WANTED TO GO AND DEAL WITH POST BONO ERA
.... "PEOPLE COME AROUND WITH THEIR CAMERA , SHOW THE WORLD WHAT I LOOK LIKE ,............WILL THEY COME TOMARA" SENTIMENT.

C. I AM THE THING I WAS GOING THERE TO BE SHOCKED BY.

I DID ALL THE PRINCESS DIANA THINGS. WENT TO SCHOOLS ,HOMES THAT WERE EMPTY BOMBED OUT BUILDINGS , VILLAGES WITH NO WATER ELECTRICITY, SAW THE MOST RAWEST THINGS SINCE MY HEAD AND HEART GOT SHAT ON BY MY EX BOYFRIEND WHO WAS GONE TO SAVE STRIPPERS IN BRAZIL (COZ they ALWAYS NEED MUSIC TO DANCE TO).

MEANWHILE IN MONROVIA THE CREW HAD TO SPLIT IN TWO TO COVER ME AND KIMMIE WEEKS WHO IS AMAZING (HE WILL BECOME THE FUTURE PRESIDENT ONEDAY). I WANTED TO SHOW FUN , KIMMIE WANTED TO SHOW SERIOUS BUT THERE WAS A GAP BETWEEN THE TWO.

I LOVE LIBERIA , AND I DO IM GONNA ADOPT IT. I WILL GO THERE WITHOUT QUESTION. IF SRI LANKA....IS MY MOTHER COUNTRY THEN LIBERIA WILL BE MY MOTHERS BROTHER. AND THERE WERE T SHIRTS ON EX REBELS THAT SAID I LOVE LIBERIA.THAT WAS COOL.

I HAD A GUCCI SWEATER ON , AND THEY ASKED ME IF IT WAS REAL , I SAID NO AND THE MEN WERE LIKE OHHH SORRY IT WOULDA BEEN NICE IF U HAD THE REAL AUTHENTIC THING, AND I TOLD EM I WASNT SAD AT ALL. I JUS RATHER HAVE MY MONEY GO TO SOME POOR DUDE MAKIN EM IN CHINA OR AFRICA THEN THE POWER HOUSES IN THE WEST, THEN THEY GAVE ME THE LIBERIAN HIGH FIVE WHICH IS A FIGNER CLICKIN THING HARD TO DO ON A BLOG. AND I FELT LIKE I PLANTED A BUSINESS SEED IN THE MEN ON THE CORNER DOING NOTHING WHO HAVE THEIR LEFTOVER AMO HIDDEN UNDER THE BED AT HOME IN CASE THE WAR STARTS AGAIN.

THE UN R THERE!!!! AND THE GOVERNMENT PEOPLE R
THERE, AND THEY HAVE ELECTED IN THE FIRST LADY LEADER EVER IN AFRICA, SHE HAD A HARD JOB JUST TO COVER THE BASICS!!!!!!!!

FOR THE U.S DAY TO DAY RUNNING OF IRAQ
IT COST APPROX 85 MILLION PER DAY.

5 OF THOSE DAYS CAN REBUILD BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE FOR LIBERIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4EVA

FOOD , WATER, ELECTRICITY R STILL MISSING BECAUSE EVERYTHING HAS BEEN LOOTED AND SOLD TO OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES, LIKE THE TRAIN TRACKS PAVEMENT THE CABLES FOR ELECTRICITY TO PASS THROUGH, EVERYTHING IS CLEANED OUT.

IF ANYTHING I D MUCH RATHER GIVE THE PEOPLE A LIST OF THINGS THEY NEED TO BOOTLEG

1. COMPUTERS.
2. SOFTWARE
3. DESIGNER CLOTHES , WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS GO FOR D&G OR GAUTIER LOOK ALL............ THAT GOLD LEAFING BOYYYYY ITS EVERY WHERE IN TH E 3 RD WORLD.

I BOUGHT T SHIRTS OFF THE STREET BOYS BACK, WHICH DIDNT GO DOWN WELL WITH ANYONE I WAS WITH, EVERYONE LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS ROBBIN THE SHIRTS OFF THE BACKS OF THE POOR THAT WAS SOOOOOOO DISGUSTING HOW COULD I EVEN THINK OF THAT? , I DID OFFER LIKE WEEKLY PAY FOR SOMETHING THE BOYS GOT FREE FROM THE SACKS CHARITY CLOTHES DROPED ON THEIR HEADS. AND SOME OF THEM WANTED IT BACK LIKE "ACTUALLY I LIKE THAT T SHIRT I THINK ITS COOL TOOO" SO I GAVE IT BACK, NOW THEY FEEL THAT SHIRT IS LIKE THE BEST SHIT EVER, COZ HE HAD TO FIGHT ME TO GET IT BACK, AND ALL HIS FRIENDS THINK HES LIKE THE COOOLEST SHIT IN THE HOOD.
ITS ALL GOOD!

I ADMIT I LOVE LIBERIA BECAUSE THE WAR STOPPED !! IN SRI LANKA THEY R STILL AT IT,

NOTE TO ANYONE READING THIS!!!!!!!
PLEASE LOOK OVER THERE, THEY HAVE BLOCKED THE ROADS TO JAFFNA WHERE I COME FROM . 500, 000 PEOPLE ARE BEING STARVED SYSTEMATICALLY TO DEATH. NO FOOD ALLOWED IN, I CANT EVEN BEGIN TO TALK ABOUT WHY THATS HAPPENING, BUT MAYBE U CAN. IT MAKES ME FREEZE , IT TOO CLOSE TO HOME.

I LIKE LIBERIA BECAUSE IT LOOKS GOOD TOO!!! I FELT ITS MY PLACE TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
I DIDNT CRY WHEN I SAW STUFF. I WAS HAPPY. I SAW PEOPLE LIVING IN THE WORST CONDITIONS AND I WAS HAPPY BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL WANTED MUSIC, FILMS, DANCING, POP STARS. SO I PUT ON SOME LIP STICK AND TOLD THEM I LIKED THEIR HAIR. I DIDNT WANT TO TREAT THEM LIKE THEY ARE VICTIMS!!!!! AND FEEL SORRY FOR THEM. I DIDNT WANT TO GIVE HAND OUTS AND LEAVE. I DIDNT WANT TO TAKE THE PISS EITHER OR BE IRONIC TO MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU, COZ IT WASNT ABOUT U , IT ABOUT THEM!!!!!

I WANTED TO SAY

THIS ISNT A BLACK WHITE THING!
THIS ISNT AFRICA AGAINST THE WORLD THING
MAYBE NOT EVEN
RICH / POOR THING
WAR THING

ITS 1ST WORLD....MEDIA VS 3 WORLD MESSAGE THING.

SHOW ME HOW TO USE TOOLS

Hi, everyone. I am Shi. I want to publish the world's first common people history book! I name it meaning the traces we live.(www.seeyou200yearslater.com)
is one history book written by and for common people. It is one product of international cooperation across different nations, different languages and different cultures. If you are lucky enough to get one place in the book, your can write anything in to remember it for ever. The book will be kept for at least 200 year, so people 200 years later can read it. Your words can be heard; your works can be enjoyed; your influence can be felt. Just as I say, it gives you the POWER to INFLUENCE the WORLD.

Great post, M.I.A. - I'm glad to see you're out there trying to make a difference. Maybe Liberia could be the next Hong Kong - and they could rebuild their country by bootlegging luxury goods for export!

Sorry to hear about your hometown being blockaded - I hope something happens to help the people over there (BTW I knew you were Sri Lankan but I didn't know you were Tamil)

keep up the good work and keep posting your blog updates

Truth is that every spot on the planet has some much beauty to offer. The people are all full of the same potential that we all have.

Im thinking
Gwen Stefani t-shirts could be a hot commodity there.. it seems she has a new fashion line..maybe can start a biz there.
sorry to hear about your ex.. that stuff comes out of the blue..
I think Liberia is the place that i remember seeing on the news during the war..and i saw this graphic picture of newsmedia all around this head sitting on the pavement..trying to get the right angle.
It really comes down to people wanting to change themselves bad enough.. you can throw gasoline on a fire..but it will run out faster. It sucks...and there is nothing wrong with helping out. Even if it does seem fruitless..it is still good karma.
Perhaps you can start with the fashion houses themselves.. i cant think of anyone with more to lose..than happy customers!

The situation over in liberia and sudan and somalia fighting ethiopia, is killing the infrustucture of the country. I appreciate you being a star actually doing something about it.
The u.s. goverment likes going to wars with counties with evil dictators. Why are'nt they
doing anything in Africa? One obvious reason they are poor and black. BLESSED LOVE

the reason the u.s. goes into certain countries with "evil dictators" but not into others is that they'd GAIN nothing from it. you think the u.s., as a nation. goes into these countries with their best interests in mind? nope. the only reason the american government interferes in these matters is to make good relations with a country that can scratch the respective u.s. back...not b/c they really care that much. although this country loves to project that immaculate image of the white knight mounted upon that wonderful steed. it doesn't matter that the country is poor and black, really. it's more that the country is poor in useful resources....it has nothing of value to the u.s. it all boils down to one terrible fact...people are selfish, and for the most part...suck. gg.

you cant save the world! ...africa is self destructing because of the lures of the first world ...corruption is the problem and thats not goign away ...better to sit back and watch it self destruct like an ant farm ...to think one person or one movement willc hange the world is silly and egotistical ....it like that and thats the way it is!

i think the fact that you view her individualist effort as
not one that alters and contributes to a larger
community is rather 1st world and privileged.

i am more than happy to see exposure of not humanitarian
work, but human rights work via art. art thru social
change, which i think MIA makes strong attempts to do.

so privileged to theorize and make hazrdous assumptions
about movements and the people power, community
uprise, and authentic collective work that will and
is altering the world everyday. liberation change happens
not just specifically in say sri lanka or liberia but countless
third world countries and allied efforts in the U.S.

people who do the work, who live and work with youth
with poor and working class folk, with women and immigrant,
worker communities don;t belive but breath the
shifting of oppressive imperialistic powers that be.
some of us are too starved, too low on resources,
too robbed of land, too threatened to death, that
we will fight as hard as our blood can conceive
to create a better world. we don't simply dance
to good music like MIA at a sheik afterparty
because the beats are hot and cuz she has
good fashion, but because we earnestly believe
art and our actions can transform this world.
that all our creation will innovate a world,
an institution that systemically oppresses people
is unacceptable.

ps.
also, africa is not self-destructing. the corporations
reaping work and land of people in africa destructs.
i don't believe all of africa's people decided to
be malnourished or overly worked or coerced into
inhuman labor conditions.

and you like conceptual thinking...?
HA!
as for human behavior make sure you study yourself and NEVER reproduce, because pessimism is not needed!
oh and there is more than ONE movement and more than ONE person attempting to change the ways of the world...but i guess cnn wouldn't tell you that kind of information

that's seriously the problem, no one cares or wants to care....people think since we're here in america drooling over skinny bone jones we're not affected by this. out of site out of mind ...kept like this for a reason thanks to capitalism. note to ignorant folk: we can relate to these people who suffer from poverty, homelessness, corruption, starvation, and oooooooonnnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnnn because it's happening in our own backyard(U.S.) if you're really touched by her post, then sincerely learn about these issues and do something because we can't wait for a spokeperson or a leader or a celebrity to spark some kind of revolution....it's in our hands ladies and gents and the ones in between!!!!

Word. Shit's fuckin crazy and when it's happening to our own people, our own blood, it hurts even more cause the questions begin to stir in our minds like, why must our almighty high test us like this? maybe our creator just wants to prove that it's the strong who survive. and we do. we must. Muchas gracias for shedding light on that part of the world cause the media certainly isn't and folks just don't even know the half. Que Viva La Raza!

The Sri Lankan civil war is an ongoing conflict on the island-nation of Sri Lanka. Since the 1983 "Black July" pogrom, there has been on-and-off civil war, mostly between the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, or the LTTE, who want to create an independent state of Tamil Eelam in the north-east of the island. It is estimated that the war has left more than 65,000 people dead since 1983 and caused great harm to the population and economy of the country. A cease-fire was declared in 2001, but hostilities renewed in late 2005. Following escalation of violence in July 2006, a senior rebel leader declared the ceasefire null and void,[3] although both sides later reaffirmed their commitment to the ceasefire agreement.
