I'm a huge fan of Jennyfer Star. She plays some wicked Rock N Roll and her voice - Well that's just amazing. Not only that but this lady stunningly looks the part and loves the scene to bits. I'm so glad I bumped into her on line a few years back and on hearing Jennyfer's solo single you'll feel the same too. It's a been a while since I interviewed Jennyfer and here's what she had to say for herself.

Street Voice: First off how come you decided to leave Starlet Suicide and become a solo artist?

JENNYFER STAR: I wanted to create something new. I was tired of playing the same old venues without getting paid. And I felt like I had more to give. I wanted to write whatever music that came to my mind. With Starlet I had to write a certain style, and I can..t really decide what kind of music I should write. What comes up, comes up you know..

Street Voice: You've just recently released the single 'On My Own' so how did you feel about the finished product?

JENNYFER: I'm really happy about the two tracks on "On My Own"! It turned out better than I imagined and it feels really good. It's always interesting to record new songs, cuz you never know how it turns out. A song that doesn't feel completely right can turn out awesome, and a really good song might not work at all. With these two songs, I knew that both of them was good from the beginning and they turned out even better!

Street Voice: How has this release been received by your fans and press?

JENNYFER: Very good! I was a bit afraid that the old Starlet fans wouldn't like it, but boy was I wrong! Hehe. I haven't heard a bad word about it really. And I've gotten great reviews as well.

Street Voice: Are there any plans to film a video to help promote the single?

JENNYFER: Actually, I have been thinking of makin a video. But so far I haven't had the opportunity. Maybe for the next release!

Street Voice: I'd really love to hear an album from you now so are there any plans to release one in the not too distant future?

JENNYFER: Hopefully! That's what I'm aiming for. The problem is that I haven't found a record label that feels right. But as soon as I have a label, I will record a full-length album.

Street Voice: When are you going to get over to the UK to do a few shows?

JENNYFER: It seems pretty hard for a Swedish band/artist to get gigs in UK, dunno why.. But hopefully I will be able to come there soon and show you guys how to really rock. ;)

Street Voice: What inspired you to write the lyrics for 'On My Own'?

JENNYFER: The lyrics for "As Good As It Gets" is about my last depression. How to take control and be able to battle the anxiety and walk towards a better life. "Be The Same" was written one of the first spring days this year, when I came out of the depression and saw the light again. It sounds kinda melancholic but if you listen to the lyrics it's actually a pretty happy song!

Street Voice: Changing the subject a little are there any plans to bring back your fanzine 'Cherry Fuck'?

JENNYFER: Not at the moment. My and Candy (the co-owner of Cherryfuck) felt like it was time to move on, and we didn't have to any time to do keep doin it anyway. Maybe someday in the future we will be able to do something together again. I hope so, because makin that fanzine was the most fun I ever had. And I mean litterary. We were laughing so hard all the time while writing and doin stuff. Not that the zine itself was a joke, but it was pretty humorous, at least to us. ;)

Street Voice: I read your blog about the construction workers that harrass you because of your good looks. In the UK those workers could be sacked for doing what they do to you and other women so would you like to see similar laws in Sweden?

JENNYFER: Yeah in one way. Because they don't seem to understand. Not all girls wearing short skirts and hard make-up wants to be seen as an object. But those guys seem to think that the only way to show appreciation is to scream and whistle after sexy girls. It would be a little bit nicer if they just came up to you and said: "Hey, I think you're really beautiful. Just wanted to let you know!". That, I could actually take as a compliment! But not the screaming and whisteling. Cuz it makes you feel like you're not worth anything. Just makes you feel like an object. Besides, why don't they go home and show their wife and kids some appreciation instead?

Street Voice: And ever thought of turning it in to a positive situation by trying to sell them your cd?

JENNYFER: Hahahaha! No, but thanks for the tip! Maybe I could do that! :) I've tried to turn it into a positive situation in other ways though. For example by thinking that at least I'm enough good looking to make them turn their heads ;)

Street Voice: Talking of your beauty was modelling ever a career option for you?

JENNYFER: Hehe, well THAT'S a compliment :) I haven't really worked towards becoming a model but I love to pose plus I've got the height, but no.. I don't think so. Besides I'm a normal built woman. Not as skinny as the model industry wants their girls. And I think the whole plus size model thing is pretty fucked up since the plus size models are practically normal weight. Would be fun to do some commercial stuff or something though, or model for some alternative clothing line.

Street Voice: Personally I think you have one of the best female voices I've ever heard in the Rock N Roll scene and you so deserve to be huge. Does it ever dishearten you that things maybe aren't moving fast enough for you?

JENNYFER: THANK YOU! :) Yeah, sometimes I get a bit bitter over it. But I believe in fate and I think my time will come sooner or later.

Street Voice: Aside from your music career what else does Jennyfer Star get up to?

JENNYFER: "I don't get out of bed for less than 50,000." Haha.. No but actually, I don't do that much besides music hehe.. Hanging with friends, partying, maybe sewing some clothes, reading, watching movies.. And I started studying a few months ago. Just taking some courses that I missed because I dropped out of high school.

Street Voice: What are your plans for the rest of 2007?

JENNYFER: I am currently writing new songs and when they are ready I will record a few more tracks. And after that I'll be starting to play live again.

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

JENNYFER: Thanks a lot! You rock! And don't forget to visit my
Website and my My Space page to listen to my stuff and show me some looooove! ;) CHEERS!

Thanks to Jennyfer for answering the interview and I promise you readers that you'll read alot more about her in Street Voice as we're going to follow her solo project with much interest.
