Grace Solero are one of those bands that would be criminal to pigeon hole and have to be heard on that basis alone. Their music is so exciting and this is one band I'm sure that will hit the big time before long. Everything about Grace Solero is beautiful and once you hear them you'll agree with me. After hearing their debut album I just had to interview this band and here's what they had to say.

Street Voice: First off can you introduce the band to the world please?

Grace on vocals and guitar, Dan Beaulaurier on guitar and vocals, Michael Howie on bass and Francesco Lolli on drums.

Street Voice: You all met in London but most of you are from overseas so what nations do you all come from?

G-Italy D-USA (California) M-New Zealand F-Mexico

Street Voice: How did you all come together as a band as London is a huge place?

G: I moved to London determined to start a band. I responded to an ad Dan had put up for "guitarist available" in a record shop in Camden called Out On the Floor. We gigged as a duo and started our search for a rhythm section. We went through all sorts of jams with musicians that weren't right until one day, Dan met Francesco at a bus stop. I met Michael at a pub in Highgate soon after.

Street Voice: You've recently released 'New Moon' so how pleased were you when you had the finished product in your hands?

G: "New Moon" is officially released on October 1st. It makes you feel great when you see the finished results of something you've been living with day and night. When the album came back from the factory we were very excited. Previously, we had been stuck in a fruitless production deal with a recording studio. When things weren't working the way we expected, we took our fate in our own hands. We decided to finance the album ourselves. The songs were ready and deserved to be on a record.

D: We worked really hard on all aspects of the album, from recording, mixing and mastering the tracks to the artwork and design. There will always be things that you think you could have played or mixed differently, but we're really happy with how the record turned out.

Street Voice: So what inspired the great lyrics to the album? Where did the inspiration come from?

G: Living life to the fullest opens your heart to everything that surrounds you. You become aware of not only your own state of mind but other people's stories and emotions. I let everything pass through me and I give it back through lyrics. Sometimes, lyrics are a sort of healing that help to make it through. They're mostly autobiographical.

Street Voice: What do you hope to gain exposure wise from the release of the album?

G: We hope to connect with as many people as we can.

Street Voice: Will there be a tour undertaken to promote the album?

G: Yes!! We can't wait! We are in touch with some booking agents and will confirm tour dates soon.

Street Voice: If you could play with just three bands who would they be and why?

G: Tough question! Placebo 'cause we like their immediacy and energy, their lyrics are sharp. Muse for their epic sound and extreme singing.

D: Rolling Stones for the way the can make any gig seem intimate.

Street Voice: The music industry seems to have a downer on female fronted rock bands so why do you think that is?

G: The music industry just thinks about girls buying boys' music. They don't really see that women really identify with a female singer and can be the most loyal fans. For pop music, the female artist is easy to control and package while a female playing rock is not as easy to handle.

D: Maybe some people are frightened by a strong woman singing with balls.

Street Voice: Grace has to be one of the best female vocalists I've ever heard so is her voice natural or has she had voice coaching?

G: I had technique lessons from a German soprano opera singer when I was 15. Then I challenged myself to sing in other styles with several collaborations. The best teacher was experience… life experience. The way you use your voice, the delivery of your singing, is directly connected to your emotions, to the experiences you pass through in life.

Street Voice: What plans have you for the rest of 2007?

D: A launch party for "New Moon", carrying on promoting the album through gigs, radio interviews and such. Also working on songs for the next album.

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Writing music and playing music is a very demanding path, physically and emotionally. You really need to find your own way to enjoy the process. Otherwise, you won't last long.

Thanks to Grace Solero for their time in doing this interview. To all you viewers of this interview you really do need to check out what Grace Solero are up to. You'd be crazy not to.
