I came across Killy Slowly on My Space and liked what I saw and heard. These are a band that are made up of five beautiful women but what makes it even cooler with Kill Slowly is that they play as well as they look. Their style of Hard Rock won me over and I contacted them for an interview and Nita Straus kindly answered the question. Here's what she had to say on behalf of the band.

Street Voice: First off can you introduce the band to the world please?

We're Kill Slowly, an all female heavy metal band from Los Angeles, CA.

Street Voice: What inspired you to start Kill Slowly?

We have all been working toward this same goal our whole careers in music, so meeting each other and jamming it really came together easily.

Street Voice: I have to say you're all very good looking ladies so did you set out to be an all female band?

We always intended to have an all female lineup. There's a terrible stereotype going around that girl musicians can't play and we are fighting that every step of the way. Our goal starting this project was to have a band that looks hot and puts on a great live show, but also shows musical ability.

And they do it with style.

Street Voice: How did you all meet?

Networking mainly! We heard of each other through other musicians and internet networking and when we met we had amazing chemistry. We recruited the best members from other local bands to make this project come to life.

Street Voice: You have a release coming out soon so what kind of things do you write about?

We're inspired by experiences in our lives. Our music is really open to interpetation- the songs mean different things to different people.

Street Voice: Aside from the band what do you all do as a living?

Hahaha are you kidding? This band is a full time job!! ;)

Street Voice: So when we can expect a full album from Kill Slowly?

We just finished tracking our LP to give the world an idea of what to expect from us, and now we're focusing all our energy on our live show. The full album will come with time but it's not a priority yet.

Street Voice: Being an all female band do you tend to get any sexist remarks from other bands, promoters etc?

Actually, our response has been great from promoters and other bands. The comment we get most after shows is "Wow, I was surprised!!" I guess that's the most sexist thing that people have said to us, because they look at us and expect us to be a typical girl band.

Street Voice: If you could just play with three bands who would they be and why?

Judas Priest- They were the first metal show I ever saw, it would be cool to come full circle. DragonForce- to try to get some guitar lessons backstage! And Metallica- because that's every young band's dream!!

Street Voice: Because you're all very good looking women I expect most people would be too shy to chat you up so any tips on how any would be boy/girl friends should approach you?

Buy me a power amp? haha!

Looking at the price of power amps would a stolen one do, haha?!!

Street Voice: Nita you're coming over to London in September so what kinda places you like to eat and what's your favourite tipple?

Haha I had to look that up on
dictionary.com! I'm a big fan of Asian food... Chinese, Thai, Mongolian bbq, sushi... I don't know a lot of people out there so if anyone has any recommendations, email me!! My drink of choice is a Sex on the Beach... no jokes please ;)

I can just imagine some young bar tender being embarrased if Nita went and asked for Sex On The Beach. It would be funny to watch.

Street Voice: How far do you want to take Kill Slowly as a band?

Kill Slowly is a band that will go the distance. We plan to spend the rest of our lives with each other kicking ass and taking names around the world.

Street Voice: So apart from recording new music what other plans do you ladies have for the rest of 2008?

Definitely booking more shows, around our hometown of Los Angeles and outside. We also have something going on with a major TV network.
It's all very hush hush, but you can expect to see us in your living room soon!!

Street Voice: Anything you'd like to add?

Thanks for checking us out! Can't wait to rock out in the UK soon!! See what we're up to at
www.killslowly.com.

Thanks to Nita for doing the interview and if you're looking at checking out a new Hard Rock band then you really do need to check out Killy Slowly. See ya in the UK very soon Nita.
