Hey friends and allies, mike/mike here.  I hope you're having a wonderful day and eating nutritiously…

I've been trying to work out more, lately.  It's hard!  I don't like it at all.  I love sports and general activity, and I feel great when I start to get some definition going on, but it's incredibly difficult to maintain any kind of consistency in routine.  And if I skip a day, I'm back to my standard 12-year old body.  Plus, without a decent protein intake for the day, fagetaboutit!  All that painful unpleasantness leaves me with very little reward, and I get discouraged dag-nabbit!

Twilight nation, you came through for me for when I was low on socks as if I were an inescapable, obligatory burden to you and your family.  So I've decided that you're going to be my new life advisors and maybe even therapists in addition to your current role as friendly acquaintances and loyal compadres.  So I ask you… Does anyone have any "getting in shape" advice for someone who immensely dislikes the process of getting in shape?

But enough about me.  How are you?!  Hey, Twilight's coming out pretty soon!  How bout that?  That's exciting eh?  I'm sure these next seven months will just FLY by!... I'm going to be featured on an upcoming MTV Twilight Tuesday.  A fella named Larry Carroll did the interview and he was cooler than Billy Dee Williams (let's see if anyone connects the dots on THAT reference).  Go easy on me, it was my first interview in a while.  I haven't done THAT many interviews in my life.  Mainly because no large group of people has ever been interested in what I have to say until recently.  It's a little intimidating, I'll be honest.  There are a lot of elements of today's "celebrity" culture that make me cringe.  It has nothing to do with you guys.  But I have to say, being in what appears to be a potentially huge film franchise, hence, putting me in a position to be in the beginning stages of entering this "celebrity" world is scary.  I'm grateful for the opportunity and I'm having a blast, but it's scary.  Well, I guess I'm not that worried.  After all, it's just Mike Newton!  J  But whatever happens, I think I'll be up for it.  I guess we'll see…

NOW it's time to do some pushups.  I'm not gonna lie, this blog was a procrastination.  Checking in with my Twi-hards is a perfectly reasonable excuse for not working out.  I'm a really good procrastinator.  Probably the best in my family!  In fact, the only two things I KNOW I'm good at are acting, and putting off tomorrow what could and should be done today.  I'm gonna make a great father.  "Don't worry little Johnny, you can do your homework tomorrow!  Now play.  Be free!  Rules are for squares!"

That's all for now my fellow humans.  Shalom.

I usually just tell myself that it'll be worth it in the end. The only thing that sucks about it is that you have to keep up with it to keep in shape.

Can't wait for Twilight! I can honestly say, I loved you as soon as I saw that you were Mike, I think you atleast look perfect for the role. You're just adorable! haha.

Ipod. Always use the Ipod when you are working out!
Makes for a great distraction when your jogging up that hill or doing those annoying push-ups!
I'm glad to hear you'll be in the Twilight Tuesday!

I agree that having some awesome music pumping into your brain helps distract you from noticing how much working out sucks.

As for some other tips, variety is the key for me. Don't run on a treadmill everytime, utilize all the machines avalaible. Same goes for lifting weights and all the other muscle building stuff. If you do the same routine, you're gonna get burned out and bored really fast! But, going at the same time everyday really helps, set aside time in your schedule! And don't stress over it too much! Skinny boys are cute!

I can't wait to see the interview! Please promise us that you won't become an alcoholic, bratty, spoiled diva when fame hits! :)

As for the advice: lay off cokes and drink lots of water? I don't know if it helps when you want to tone up, but it's good for losing weight. I'm not really sure what would help....Exercising isn't my game.

ahahaha! i bet i could beat you anyday at procrastoination. i mean, i am the MASTER of it. if me and you were to get into a competition, i would so win. ahaha!

i'm really excited to see your interview!!!!!!!! i'm sure you're gonna be great in it. and just so you know, seven months is a longggg time! there's NO WAY it's gonna fly by! all of us twilighters are basically dying more and more everyday. we LIVE for twilight tuesdays. ahaha!

as for working out tips, well, i don't know too many myself but i'll say what i think helps 9it helps me anyways): while working out, listen to good upbeat music that you would normally feel like dancing to cause that'll give you energy, try not to push yourself too hard cause that could actually be bad for your health rather then help you lose weight or get toned. also, for like eating habits and stuff, everyone thinks "diet?! am i gonna have to cut out all food and eat like tofu and stuff?!" so not true! you can basically eat anything but in smaller portions and try to balance everything out. don't eat too much of one thing. and junk food is NOT bad!! it's ok to indulge yourself every once and awhile just not a lot and everyday. like i said: balance. that's basically the key thing.

ewww! i hate push ups. they're really hard and i can't do them. ahaha! i can do sit ups though!!! anyways, good luck with your workout and eveyrhting else you've got going on. (:

Eating bananas before you work out keeps your muscles from cramping up :] (I play Soccer) I am an extreem procrastinator also, but theres nothing wrong with that. The key thing to working out is that you stay with it and dont get down on your self when nothing happens

A procrastinator wanting to get in shape? I smell an oxy moron! Just keep telling yourself you'll do it tomorrow. You know, like The sun'll come out tomorrow, and when it does I'll start working out. Or you could go running! That's always fun, as long as you have crazy awesome inspiring music that puts you in an energetic mood!
Good luck with those push ups and pull ups and other things that will make your arms want to fall off!

As for working out, try listening to some really fast paced music while you work out, it gets you pumped up. Or work out with a friend, that always makes it better for me. Best of luck, it's always worth it when you start seeing results :) Or ride horses, it gives you a six pack and its extremely fun ^-^
Looking forward to seeing you on the big screen!

Mike,

I've been having a really difficult evening tonight (I'm in England), and I just needed to laugh. Your blog and procrastination could not have come at a more perfect time. So you see, it wasn't really procrastinating! No, it was helping out a fan and friend! Thank you for making me laugh and smile. I needed it so badly! You're the best!

As for exercise tips, I'm afraid that I suffer from the same thing as you. Exercise is boring and painful. If you figure anything out, let me know! I'll do the same.

Looking forward to your MTV interview!

YAYYY, one more reason to stay right were I'm at and put off the other stuff :]

Well now my mom is yelling at me for being on too long... dang. I'm sure you'll be amazing in that interview, and I can't wait till Tuesday now! Hope you have a great week.

Also, I picture something that I want to strive for. Like, maybe an actress I admire or a project I'm planning on (I'm a cosplayer. xD) It helps motivate me a lot. 8DD

And, dude, if you went all uber celebrity, you'd be the coolest one out there, so... =]

As for working out...Blasting angry, RAWR music helps. Because then you just give yourself up to is, and get in a rage. Then, pretend that you're beating someone or something instead of working out, or you're preparing to go lay out a beating. It's like an adrenaline rush. That's why working out can be good when you're angry, it kind of has the opposite effect.

I am a chronic procrastinator too.

Smoothies, biking, and crunches. Those are my pearls of wisdom. Seriously my friend, I am not sure what working out is like for boys but for girls those 3 things are all you need.

Smoothies taste ridiculously good and are easy to make. They are in fact the only thing I can make. Plus, you can throw so much fruit and other healthy crap in there, and somehow you only taste the good parts, and not the healthy parts. It is miraculous to say the least.

Biking. They make your stems skinny... er muscular is better I guess if you are a boy. I am sure it does that too.. probably.

Crunches. What is there to say? Sure, they are painful and completely non-fun. But as soon as you are done, you feel like Demi Moore - I promise. =)

Good luck!

oi you make me laugh Mike/Mike. : ) First of all I loved your little references throughout your blog you went from Italian/NY (haha which I am and say all the time... fagetaboutit) to southern country dag-nabbit! Now as for this exercising and procrastination, I can't help you as far as consistency because of your crazy becoming celebrity schedule. But I think that because you love sports whenever you get a chance get a buch of friends together and just have fun for a while. That will always help you stay active and you are having fun with your friends. If it's not possible try playing some intense music while you work out. It helps me keep going. The intensity of the music makes me want to push forward because I use alot of rock and stuff for that purpose. It gets me in that angry i'm GOING TO FINISH THIS IF IT KILLS ME kinda mood. Well it's a start any way, good luck!

my advice: don't do anything that you don't enjoy doing! I used to HATE working out, but when I realized there are such awesome things you can do to stay in shape, I came to love it. I love Yoga. You probably don't care, but I actually do. Haha. Like, have you heard of WiiFit? It's new and they made a game for Nintendo Wii that's an actual work out! It's so cool! It's on my birthday wish list. :)

Food wise, don't deprive yourself of anything. If you want a slice of pizza, for God sakes, eat it! If you want that piece of chocolate cake, finish it! Haha. Just eat things in moderation and you'll be okay.

Haha, I sound like a freaking motivational speaker or something...and I do live in a van down by the river(not really).

I hope those tips helped! I know how annoying procrastination can get. In fact, I typed up the first little pieces of this comment and walked away for 3 1/2 hours, completely forgetting about it. I'm back now, and I'm finishing it. How's that for procrastinating?

Oh, and Billy Dee Williams plays Lando Calrissian in Star Wars. :)

i hear you on the whole 'working out' thing. i advise 100 crunches a day
20 straight
20 with your left elbow to your right knee
20 with your right elbow to your left knee
20 switching elbows to your knees
20 straight again.

after about a week of that you get used to it plus it gives you nice abs :) and drink water.a lot of water. loads of water. lay off soda.

I know how you feel about 'getting in shape.' I've always been really involved in sports, I played water polo for 9 years, but upon entering college the organized sports got pushed aside. Its not like I've added a lot of weight, but I know I'm definitely not as fit as I used to be.

Anyway... I've always found that working out is easiest when you don't realize that your doing it. Hanging out with friends and doing some sort of physical activity is always good. For example, my friends and I get together to play ultimate frisbee, soccer, or tennis or sometimes I just pair up with a friend and go walking around the local trails or snorkeling around the coves. If you're having fun you'll forget you're working out.

As far as your celebrity status, didn't you get a lot of attention from the Stargate community? You should have at least! Fragile Balance is still one of my favorite episodes. You were amazing.

Hope this helps!

Oh, don't worry. Working out is lame...hee hee. I hate doing it too, so if your like me, thinking about working out has you in pain. So, here's my advice, eat all that nasty healthy stuff that no one but strange people like, and walk with ankle weights. Granted, that won't help the whole arm muscle stuff, but I highly doubt you want to learn how to spin a rifle, flag, or sabre like me.
