I am aware that many of you probably dont know what Hotchkins or Non-Hotchkins Lymphoma Cancer is. So i figured i'd tell you, so you knew what you were donating to find a cure for.
For starters, Lymphoma Cancer is the cancer that infects the lymphatic system. There are thirty known cancers of lymphoma. 5 are called Hotchkins (also spelt: Hodgkins) and the rest are called Non-Hotchkins. The lymphatic system is part of the body's immune system. It helps the body fight disease. The lymphatic system includes a bunch of thin tubes that branch, into tissues throughout the body. Lymphatic vessels carry lymph, a colorless, watery fluid that contains infection-fighting cells. Along this network of vessels are small organs called lymph nodes. These are found all around the body in various places.
Im assuming you all know what cancer is. A group of rapidly forming abnormal cells...which form tumors. Tumors can be either benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). In non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, cells in the lymphatic system become abnormal.
Because lymphatic tissue is present in many parts of the body, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma can start almost anywhere in the body. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma may occur in a single lymph node, a group of lymph nodes, or in another organ. This type of cancer can spread to almost any part of the body, including the liver, bone marrow, and spleen. My cousins spread from her chest down to her pelvis or maybe even lower.. im not to sure.
In terms of incidence and death, NHL (Non-Hotchkins Lymphoma) is the second fastest growing cancer in the United States and the third fastest growing in the rest of the world. Over the 25-year period between 1973 and 1998, new cases of NHL seen each year escalated almost 83%, among the highest increases of any cancer. The overall five-year survival rate is only 59%.
I dont know if this actually helps you out at all or not. It kinda confused me. But i got it off line. ..so it doesnt surprise me. But i hope you will donate after reading this. Thank you everyone!
