Who Gives Kudos:

Thursday, September 11, 2008
Alright, you've gotten a sneak peek at all your players now. But let me emphasize that week one is simply that: a sneak peek. Teams are still installing their offense, working on their defense, and developing game plans. NFL teams don't hit their stride until week 4 at the earliest, so don't overestimate week one. That said, there were still some interesting tidbits in week one:

TOM BRADY IS GONE BRADY: So if you took Tom in the first round, you are panicking. Hopefully you drafted a backup that is serviceable. If not, here are some thoughts: If Kitna is available, pick him up. He should have a nice year. Otherwise, it's Cassel, Trent Edwards, Jason Campbell, or (God forbid) Chad Pennington. My other advice is try to buy low on a quarterback who struggled in week one, like Carson Palmer or Marc Bulger.

Fast Willie = Fast riser: If Willie Parker gets goal line carries (3 TD's in week one), he could be fantasy's MVP this year, based on where he was drafted. How quickly can a guy go from the dude everybody loves to hate to the dude everybody wants. That's like 50 cent right there!

Michael Turner: Now THAT was an impressive performance. He looks stronger than linebackers and faster than cornerbacks. This dude is jacked, 5'10'' 245 lbs! Granted, the Lions aren't exactly the Steel Curtain, but Turner is for real, and will get his carries every week. Stud.

Eddie Royal is Royalty: If you didn't see Eddie's embarrassment of DeAngelo hall on Monday Night, it was straight nasty. This dude is realer than real. Pick him up like jacks if you can. He might slow down a bit with the return of Brandon Marshall, but he is 2 legit to quit. Hammer don't hurt him!

The Cincinnati Bungles: This offense used to be a foundation of fantasy greatness. Not so much in week one. Chad Ocho Cinco is busy negotiating with Reebok for his jersey, and Carson Palmer got his nose jacked up. However, I say RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW: this team will rebound. They might not win a lot of NFL games, but Carson, Chad, and TJ will be starters in fantasy. Buy low if you can. Go with me on this.

ON THE TOPIC – OTHER BUY LOW CANDIDATES:

Santonio Holmes – If an owner thinks Hines Ward will outscore Santonio, swoop in, steal him, and ride off into the sunset.

Ronnie Brown – You could wait a week or two for this one, but Ronnie looks better than Ricky, and the Dolphins will eventually make him the primary back. But not too soon.

Torry Holt – An owner might be freaking out about how terrible the Rams are. Update: if a team is behind all game long (which they will be), they start passing more. Torry is as steady as they come.

Marc Bulger – He'll snap out of it. But he might get injured if they can't protect him better. I would wait and see, but I DO think he's undervalued right now.

Chris Cooley – I don't really like him, but after two more weeks of struggling, I would try to get him on the cheap. The Redskins will figure out a way to get him the ball. It just might take another two or three weeks.

Marques Colston – He's out for four to six weeks. If you have the depth, and can stash him away, maybe his owner is panicking about surviving without him for that time period. This is one where a great draft can make this type of trade possible.

Larry Johnson – He's not that low, but he looks nice, and didn't blow up in week 1. He'll tear up the Raiders, and then you'll have to pay big time. Go get him.

Other than that, it looks like you want the D's that are playing the Rams this year. The Dolphins also look completely boring on offense, and the Seahawks are so injured that they might provide some good days for opponents' defenses.

Random thoughts: These rookie RB's are amazing. Chris Johnson is a stud, Matt Forte is a stud, Jonathan Stewart is a total stud (he'll win the job, trade for him), and McFadden could be nice if he gets healthy and a bunch of touches. Kevin Smith is just decent, he's not special.

Play to win, and if you're deciding between two players to start, go with the younger, faster, upside pick: the homerun threat. Gotta go for those big plays. Speed kills.

As always, keep checking in with me every week, and tell your friends about the blog!!! The bigger I get, the better my blog will get. BLOW ME UP!!!! HOLLA!!!

everything you said on this makes since except one thing. jonathon stewart is never going to win the starting job. deangelo williams is just too good for anybody to start over him. deangelo will get just a couple more carries than him every week. im a panthers fan and im the biggest deangelo fan there is

I need some kind of help...if anyone has advice...please send me a message!!!!

I have a decent RB corps with Jacobs, Turner and Chris Johnson.

WR is ok with Wayne, Bowe, Clayton, White and Royal

TE Winslow and Miller

Both my QBs went down in week 1...Brady and Young. I was able to pick up Collins in place of Young. But now I have the choices of Matt Ryan of Griese. I am just confused on who to play.....Ryan or Griese.

Thank god that Jacobs and Turner put awesome numbers up week 1. I probably would not have won without them.

Who would you put in for QB.....Ryan or Griese???? AHHHHH I hate the injuries.
