When my children were younger, I would buy them expensive, really cool toys that I would have thought would entertain them for hours and they would play with the boxes more than they would play with the toys! Now that I am older, I finally understand. We always strive to get the expensive video games, movies, cars and everything else to entertain us and today for only $5 we ran around a cornfield getting lost and had a great time doing it! For $5 dollars a person, you can go to a corn maze in Thurmont, Maryland and spend an entire day and well into the night, getting lost in corn. Sounds like top notch fun, doesn't it?
While my wife and I were in the maze by ourselves we ran all around the place trying to find poles that were numbered so we could punch our map to say we reached our destination. About an hour and a half doing this we only found two poles and they weren't even in the maze that we started out with! I was through playing this game, I wanted to turn in and just set on the bench and wait for the rest of the people to get through it and go home. Oh no, not my wife. About 5 minutes sitting down, she made me get up and go back in to find the ploes. Why! There wasn't even a piece of cheese at the end to reward us! She pushed on along determined to find it. So we did. I mean I couldn't leave her out there alone. I felt like a little kid, always asking her if we could stop but she knew if we kept on looking we would find them. She motivated me to press on. Then we came across the youth pastor and his wife and we teamed up together and found all the ones we needed for the maze we started out with! It was a good feeling after it was over to see the finish line and know I didn't give up!
It seems alot like my Christian walk. When I first received Christ as my Saviour, I was ready to go forward and reach all my goals; baptism, telling others my testimony, and working for the Lord. Then as time went on, I would get lost and want to stop. It was so much easier to live a life of sin then to ever follow the Lord. I would always have people like my wife, pastor, friends that would encourage me and tell me it was OK, they would help me. Just like the map in the corn maze, I had my Bible to turn to help me along my way. When I thought all hope was gone, other Christian friends would be there to see me through and help me find my way again.
Unlike that maze, at the end of this life there is something better then a little piece of cheese waiting for me, there is a promise from God telling me there is something better. I Johnn 5:13 says - These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV)
Yes. This world at times feels like that corn maze and yes there is ALWAYS going to be dead ends and wrong turns BUT YES GOD will ALWAYS be there.
Hebrews - 13:5b - for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
