So went to Dallas this Saturday for MELTDOWN, which is Texas' largest electronic music event yearly (actually they do 2 a year). This was my 2nd time playing Meltdown in the last 3 years and the first time was pretty epic as i played with Aphrodite and Adam F. This time me and Jayvon got tapped to play the drum n bass room with Adam F. Of course running to the airport i am flying because what's new...Chris is running late. Get to the airport in time, thank god my bitch (Jayvon, hahahaha i kid) got my ticket for me so we are on our way. I have been to Dallas to play a lot and always take at least a 747 but this time it is a little twin engine plane. I don't fear flying at all just odd that we have a small plane. We are waiting for our plane and we see DJ Dan (also booked to play) and we strike up a conversation with him. He is one cool ass dude...like really really cool. We talk everything from music, drum n bass, to politics to crazy ass Columbian parties...then as we wait some more over comes Adam F. So we all are just chatting it up waiting for the plane (well i was stuffing my face with $10 pizza).
Plane ride was cool...got in my South Parks on my iPods (i brought both).
Get to Dallas and met by the homie Gil (aka DJ Titan...you can check out his mix on one of the previous B2B Sessions) and 2 other drivers. So we got like 10 people in tow and we all step to dinner. Forgot what the name of the Restaurant was but it was pretty fukkin' good. While waiting for a table of 10 to open up, walking in the mall where it is located is Donald Glaude and his driver. So we all feast together (seriously this steak was so good). On a side note, Adam F is one of the coolest peoples out there too. We chucked it up about drum n bass around the world, music in general, his new projects etc.. We all say our pieces (cause by now it is around 10:30pm and we need to check into the hotel) and go check in to our room.
Quick house turnaround and Gil comes back to get me and Jayvon. Shout out to Gil's girl who will go bah-lis-tic if you touch her car or liter in it (Jayvon). Seriously, hahahaa.
Get to the event and it is a mele of people outside waiting to get in. The club is situated so that they closed down a city block also and where the main stage is (Moby's) he is playing right underneath the freeway. The visuals were pretty impressive. Jayvon and I get up there early for Gil's set. Gil rips it up (as usual) with the homie Neumonic on the mic (who is a quality mc in my book). The room is packed (almost to a fault) and getting hot. Seriously i mean packed!!! We go outside a bit to peep Moby. Nice scene, a sea of people...i mean a sea of people. Some pretty crazy costumes out there (my favorite though is this girl as Sarah Palin [she looks like her spot on] and her bf who is a Joe Biden). Anyways we go back inside cause itz time for Adam's set.
Rewind to dinner (and the reason i like UK DJs who come here, well a lot of them), Adam is like to Gil, "so ummm do i get an mc for my set" (while he looks at me), Gil responds, "yeah if u want one", Adam says "definately", hahaha. I think he asked because on the flier i was adjacent to Jayvon's name, but it was pretty much assumed i was mcn' for him...anyways....
Adam's set was fuckkin' classic. The intro was worth the price of admission. That mashup was crazy. The room was even more packed than before (i don't know how) and lighters/phones were to the sky. Adam fukkin' cranked it and the shit was hype. The crowd was hype. The crowd was bouncing. Seriously one of the best sets of the year flowing from dancefloor anthems to rollers to ol skool classics.
Adam's set done and Jayvon was up next. Because the Moby stage was closed at this time (it was 3am), more people filed into our room and we got it poppin'. At this time my boy MC Astro (another quality mc from Dallas) stepped up and me, him and Nuemonic triple tagged on the mic and Jayvon got it crackin'. One thing i never realized about Dallas is that we have a really good following out there. I think outside of Phoenix/Tuscon, Vegas, SD and Indy, Dallas ranks up there for when i go with Jayvon all the homies show up and peeps know all our mixes. Jayvon cranked it out and seriously we played from 3am till 4am literally shutting the party down. By the end of his set we blazed out electro to end the nite while me and Astro did mic duties and had security and staff who were literally trying to sweep up dancing.
Back to the hotel, sleep, wake up, catch the flight back (again Dan, Adam and us were all on the same flight),,,
All in all a wicked trip...top notch all the way!!!!
Big shouts to Gil (thanks for the hospitality man, we have to get u to LA to play ur one of the best djs in the states imo, thanx for that B2B Sessions idea), Gil's girl (ur wrath over ur car is insane), Adam F (one of the chillest mofos out there, eastern europe dnb here i come), DJ Dan (hilarious man, 'i am surprised to see so many McCain/Palin stickers out here'), Holly (thank you for helping sort me and Jayvon at the event), Astro (cool mofo, dope mc, thanx bro for making it out and showing how to do the 'ed lover' on the dancefloor), Nuemmonic (cool mofo, dope mc, dallas u got 2 of the really doper mcs in the states...use them), all the Dallas party people who danced, i met etc., thanks for making that nite pretty epic. Big ups to Tyler (from AZ) for continually texting me the score of the USC/AZ game. Lastly big up Jayvon...go buy ur damn guitar!
