Heathen Hails,
So this image is offensive, according to myspace. So its ok to have pornographic images and default pics of guys holding guns and masks?
Please feel free to use this image in protest of these ridiculous regulations and REPOST so all can see this!!!

Keep messaging myspace also; to show them we are still fighting the religion option...

Again thank you to all who are supporting!!

My comment:

This is the Futhark.
A writing system that was used side by side with the Latin Alphabet in my country (Sweden) until the 1500s.

It is studied at universities and i can read and write it as fast as i can read and right the Alphabet.

I wonder if the Greek or Hebrew Alphabets are also offensive?

In Sweden we have laws protecting minorities.
To imply that a Cultural phenomenon like a writing system even COULD be offensive is illegal here.

So if i write and complain that Arabic writing is offensive, will quotes from the Qouran or Arabic newspapers for that matter be banned on MySpace?

This is my position, ANY one that finds my culture and history offensive is a biggot.

And further more, like all biggots ignorant and should pick up a history book.

If MySpace was not under Californian "law" i would have sued as soon as i saw this.

THIS IS QUITE OUTRAGEOUS. SINCE I CAN THINK OF AT LEAST TWO RUNE SYMBOLS THAT ARE AT LEAST SIMILAR TO THE CROSS, THAT SHOULD ALSO BE BANNED. AS WELL AS THE LETTER "M" AND "P" ETC. MY GUESS THIS MAY HAVE BEGAN WITH THE MISINTERPRETATION OF THE SYMBOL THE RESEMBLES THE SWASTIKA, WHICH IF ANYONE TOOK THE TIME TO LOOK AT IS A RUNE SYMBOL REVERSED. AND IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO KNOW, THEY COULD HAVE RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED THAT THAT SYMBOL REVERSED, AS USED BY THE NAZIS, HAS THE OPPOSITE MEANING AS THE USUAL RUNE SYMBOL. THERE IS A THEORY THAT THE NAZIS, HITLER, USED RUNE SYMBOLS AS SYMBOLS FOR THEIR CAUSE. MAYBE THAT'S THE PROBLEM. REGARDLESS, HOW MANY THOUSANDS HAVE DIED BY AN ARMY TOTING A CROSS? INCLUDING THE DYING IN IRAQ TODAY.

my only comment for this is going to be... Ty to the liberal owners of myspace. little known fact myspace is owned by fox now along with youtube... the liberal controllers of myspace are deciding to turn myspace more cristian and starting with pagans wiccans and other non widely practiced religions are being haltered
it is funny though that practicing our religions the government has finally allowed in the military. but myspace cant handle it... then why is it still an option on the religion table in the profile info... if you would like myspace i will make my own "space" for only pagans wiccans and those hindered by the liberal society which is already being done... look for another comment to this for the link to the "Pagan Space" for i think i will create it and make it no rules uncensored anti myspace site.

The last time I checked, Fox, MeinSpace and YouTube were controlled by Rupert Murdoch. A close personal friend of that criminal George W. Bush and also deeply conservative (Republican).

Calling the conservatives liberal is misleading at best.

Runes
have been
used in Britain since
the Dark Ages. When the
Romans abandoned Britain
around 450AD, waves of
immigrants from Europe came
and settled in this green and pleasant
land. The Friesians from the
Netherlands, the Angles and Saxons
from Germany, then the Jutes and
Norsemen (Vikings) from Scandinavia.

They brought with them their set of ancient symbols known as the runes. Originally there were 24 runes and they are collectively known as "the Futhark".

People used runes for writing messages, inscriptions and epitaphs; as amulets and charms; as an oracle for use in divination; and for rituals, magic and spells.

Through out my two years here on MySpace they look down on anything that is related to the Occult and is considered Anti-Christian or Witchcraft...Someone on Myspace Staff believes the runes are works of Witchcraft, otherwise, this would not be so...

They are trying to Protect Not Harm, in my opinion...but this is going too far...

Ignorance is NOT Bliss

Take heart in the fact that they are afraid of us. Remember, the government owns the media and the true 'money mongers' own the governments. Paganism of any sort will be the undoing of the government and their control over us. There is a new order on earth and it is growing stronger. They are panicking because they know their rule is coming to an end. Hold strong in your beliefs for our time is coming soon.

Wow, did this get all active (and i´m glad it did)!

There actually is a Pagan "MySpace" called My Pagan Space (creative name :) ).
It is at the Forest Pagan Forum. Not as active as here but still.

I like the idea with MySpace but i will not get my Culture and history and thus me, soiled by a group of untolerant and ignorant red necks who happens to be "offended".

Luckily there are forums for the like of us (people with offensive faiths).
To sad i cant get the same respect back as what i send out.

I find Religions and Cultures facinating.
It is an interest of mine.
I dont think my Culture or Religion is superiour to any other.
But it is MINE.

Having 18 years of Kabbala studies behind me and an African father any racist arguments should
go out the window too.

I know one Korean person covered in Runic tatoos ans with a Mjollnir (hammer) pendant.
I frequently speak to a Chinese worshipper of Odin.

Funny, perhaps Asians are not as sensetive as the good ol´church boys.

This is bull shit. This is an ancient alphabet. Popes also practiced magic and in their Grimoires they used this alphabets or others. With that knowledge does it still seem offensive or does that just make it all better for other religions?

Where does MySpace say this inappropriate and must be removed? Who has had this removed from their page? Is it one person or many? What was the MySpace justification? Is it in print somewhere? If there is real evidence please post a link here so we can know it's not just another unsubstantiated MySpace hoax.

It was the Heathen / Pagan petition page.
An unpolitical page petitioning MySpace for the possability to state our actual faiths instead of "Other" on our pages.

As far as i know they are the only ones that has suffered from this.
I do however think that one case is enough.

A Christian faced with "The Crucifix is offensive" would have (rightly) felt abused.
So would anyone else in the same situation.
All people have the right to be prud of their culture, in awe of Divinity ,as they experience it,
and to show their faith on their own profiles if they feel so inclined.

I (and most Swedish Asatruars) are fed up with having our entire culture and Religion associated with modern political uglyness and atrocities to wich we do not agree.

The Heathen / Pagan petition page now has the Runes (same design) as Avatar.

Thanks for filling that in. Sounds like someone at MySpace/Fox needed to be educated. Too bad they acted with stupidity first. I agree with you entirely, the religion question should be open, or at least have many more options. I know there are several varieties of Asatru. MySpace is all about sharing who a person is. You should be able to proudly say exactly who you are, rather than just be dumped into a bucket that's sort of the same, or worse, just non-specific other.

You can actually thank the nazi fools, and racists for this most likly.

Because a number of the runes have been adopted by them, and now some what symbolize hate in some peoples eyes. when i see a rune, i dont see it that way, i see it as they were designed.

So i can understand peoples problem with these being banned on myspace, but i can also see why they would. Gotta thank the foolish biggots for this one guys.

Im sorry people are such jerks! There is no need to ban any language. This is only going to hurt all of us in the long run. Language should never be lost but I find that in situations such as these that people try very hard to "lose" it. Hopefully more people will actually be willing to open a book and actually educate themselves on history =/

As both 9th and Eclectic point out, symbols of Asatru and Norse culture HAS been used for extremly unsavory things. just ask any Jew in his or her 60 - 70s. Europe was a horrible place that by far conquers out any "dark ages" for several deceniums. Germany especially are extremly sensetive about that, Sweden, that was actually neutral ,during WWII is also very sensetive. If you buy a KISS album in Germany the distinct "S" symbol of their logo is changed to backward "Z" instead. The logo could be seen as the SS symbol. It should be said though that the band consisted of two thirds Jewish members, including the logo designer so that was not the intention.

In Sweden Nazi symbolism is illegal exept in dramatic (theatrical) renditions such as movies and plays, and the Swastika combined in Nazi ways such as on the arm combined with red, white, black, on uniforms and so on will get you arrested.

If Runes are worn in anotgher way however, such as pendants, Religous paraphernalia and so on it will simply be asumed that your either wearing it as a fashion statement or that you are Asatru or other Pagan.

Swedish Asatruars have worked a long time now to get rid of any connection between them and
the atrocities of WWII. There are racists (both Asatru and others) here as anywhere but most of them make sure to stay away from the majority of Asatruars (that normally refer to themselves as "Forn Sed") for their own health sake.

Many Swedish Asatruars neither are "pure" Germanic (what ever the heck that is) or think that would be a big deal to be so.

For those here that sport Nazi symbolism on their pages and use SS mottoes like "Blut und Ehre", why are you befriending me?
Did you get the impression we are on the same page here?
Take a look again at my profile.
you guys are the ones that perpetuate this problem, you are my adversaries.

I live according to rules of conduct that does NOT include ideas of superiority.
Look clearly and try to use the non offensive alphabet on my profile.
I´m half African. I find Jewish Culture facinating and i study the Kabbala.

I celebrate my heritage and i see it anybodys natural right to celebrate theirs (and to be my neighbur).
I´m as proud of my African decent as my Norse one.

In Iceland Asatru is so normal that it is living totally side by side with Christianity.
Here in Sweden i can hardly go to get groceries without seeing someone with a hammer pendant, propably speaking to his Arabic friend.

We want to have our Religion and Culture untainted by bigottry in either direction.
And we dont say please.

The only way I can think of someone finding this offensive is if the only contact they've had with these runes has been their use by various Neo-Nazi/White Pride groups here in the U.S. Unfortunately, those hatemongers have incorporated many of these runes into their wacked-out little fantasy world. Doesn't mean it's not still idiotic, but it's a kinder way of thinking of whoever may have reported this; I'd prefer to think they're ignorant rather than bigoted. Sadly, that's probably not the case.

Sadly the world is full of idiots and I fully plan on sending a rather lengthy email to those in charge here....if those simple ancient words (which I happen to know) offend someone then every single religious thing needs to be banned from this place as well as other languages than English(just as dumb).
In my time here I have seen much worse than a few guns believe me...What about the 13 year old girls pretending to be 18 showing their bodies like candy treats?
There are many pages here that should be banned because they are purely just pornography.

All of the idiots of the world need to wake up and check themselves before they seek out others to complain about... I'm sure they are far from perfect as well....we were all put here on this rock for a reason and it was not ignorance and hatred which is what things like this breed.

I proudly wear your symbols of home and heart in my own tattoo work ...they are a part of who I am and what I believe ...Who has the right to tell us what to believe in the first place?? Is that not the reason so many left our homelands not so long ago?

In my eyes it has all come full circle.....

However, moving all pagans out of any scene means moving our voices and rights out of there to.

I havent seen MySpace claim that they are a Christian space anywhere and until they doo i will assume that they are open to all Religions.

If they are, like society in large (in all western countries), open to all faiths certain rights follow that. Nothing that wouldnt also be true in socety ouside of MySpece, just normal tolerance.

They dont seem to find me offensive and i dont find them offensive.

Perhaps here in Scandinavia Asatru is so ever present that it would be hard to find us all offensive.
Good thing to , we are after all outnumbered by our Abrahamic neighburs.

I think there has to be some education done when it comes to Germanic and Norse Culture; Mythology and Religion so we can once and for all rid ourself of this stigma.
