Category: Life
my twelve year old daughter came from camp this past thursday and the first thing she said as soon as she entered the house was, "Mum, I am now a mother and that makes you a grandmother!!!"

Obviously there was something I was missing, she could not have been pregnant and given birth while away at camp!! I could not guess how. Then she went on excitedly,
"Brook and I adopted a child! His name is Miguel from the Democratic Republic and I am sure it must be the Congo.

"You adopted a compassion child!" I said incredulously
"How did you know that?" she was even more incredulous.
"Well, lets say I know quite a bit about Compassion because of Compassion Dave on myspace," I told her.
"Well, I am surprised that you know about it, I was actually calling you so that we could adopt another child together but I did not find you at home," my daughter explained.

My daughter has a compassionate heart and dreams of having an orphanage soon. I encourage her coz I was 6 years older than she is now when I had such dreams and there was not a soul to encourage me. I wanted to start an orphanage in the late 80s and early 90s because of the numbers of children that were becoming orphaned in those years - very early during the advent of Hiv/Aids in my country and in particular the rural town of Kalomo where my parents lived then.

Well that is many years back but the carnage is so evident and I am glad my 'compassion' has rubbed off on her. I am just so happy to see her take a step of faith, one which I have not thought about twice coz I did not think I could manage. But come to think of it, I could manage if like her, I trusted God to make a way. I know my father in heaven too well for me to limit Him. I will support my daughter and hopefully sooner or later I too will have the joy of sponsoring some compassion children and make life better for a few more children.

How beautiful! Our Sunday School Department has adopted 2 children from Compassion. A boy and girl. We are blessed! They are from Kenya. Hugs.

May His face shine upon you and cause His favor to overshadow you and enrich you.

(One of my favorite blessings from Beverly Sheasby who taught me to freely receive and freely give!)

Indeed the Bible says "freely you have received, freely give." Who is Beverly Sheasby, Jeannie? She sounds like someone I would love to meet!!!!!

I'll never regret meeting her, myself! She has a ministry, along with her husband, that God used greatly during one of the darkest times in my life. (I'm liable to quote either of them. They are quite a team.) You can check them out at http://www.liberatedliving.com/ You can sign up for a free message to be sent to you to listen to that they record at their conferences. You can get it as a cassette tape or a CD. I am completely confident that you would be very blessed by it, Bella. You can also listen to some of their messages at this website, if you'd like. You'll see what I mean. :)

Thank you for the story -- it's so sweet! Our family has sponsored since 1988, and when our kids grew up, they sponsored children (one of them without even going through me--I'm in the Advocate's Network for Compassion International). It was so special to see them following my example, without being "urged" that way...and such a great surprise!

Compassion Juli, thanks for reading my blog. I am so glad to know of people working behind the ranks, changing the world one child at a time and I am grateful that God knows all of you. Sponsoring children for the past 20 years! I cannot even begin to imagine what goodness you have added to the world. This is one way of impacting children in a way that we will never imagine but we sure do reap the fruits too! I am just so glad that leading by example is such a better way of doing things especially when it comes to bringing up children.

One of my sisters in Christ has supports a network of not less than 100 children each time taking them from 1st grade until 7th. I was amazed when she told me this last week while we were discussing a completely different subject. She wrote a book that was published a few years ago and all the proceeds from that book are what she uses to support the kids in Zambia. She self publishes her book and to tell the truth I was very impressed because it is not easy but she does it consistently getting help whenever it is available. The only problem I saw was that she takes the children through the early years of elementary and middle school, after that she has to let the kids go because she cannot afford to pay for High School as it is more expensive in Zambia. I am thinking about those kids and how they can be helped better as they need the High School education more than anything. They need to go to college too. Just my heart....

Thanks once again for reading.

Thank you. The wall paper here, I am sure you may have realized, is a picture of Joan of Arc. I love Joan's story, I think she was a very brave woman who let God use her because she was convinced it was Him leading her. It kind of has a sad ending, but what is sad about a Christian going to heaven even if their body suffers pain and anguish at the hands of fellow Christians who do not understand them? The inquisition? We have come a long way and I just embrace change in us as Christians, not just for the sake of change but so that we may be more like Christ in dealing with one another.

Hi Bella,

I know I'm very late on this one but what an awesome story! We shall know a tree by the fruit it bears - Bella you are a compassionate person and likewise so is your daughter. You continue to encourage and now your daughter does as well.

God bless,
Erika
